 wow! Noida *is* in India?

The exact address is

Jaypee Institute Of Information Technology University
A-10, Sector 62, Noida

Maybe it will be a good idea to host a LUG meet there first?

Hi Raj,

We have already had a LUG meeting here. ILUG October meeting was held at
JIIT on October 21st. Gaurav posted the minutes too. Here are some pics of

Unfortunately I missed that meeting but from the review and inputs I
have gathered it seems that the OSS support amongst the college group
seemed missing as less than a handful turned up.

As someone who has been involved with many of the ILUG-D events my
outlook would be that while your idea of holding a large event is
welcome there has to be some more work. We should hold few ILUG-D
events where we motivate people around (outside of college) also to
attend, maybe do a LDD / Mashup event so as to get increased
participation and potential volunteer force.

Freed.In'08 is only a few months away and it may be better to target
Freed.In'09 or a Freed.In sub/theme event slightly later.

As I said this is my view.

Just curious, because I have never been to JNU before. Do we have
significant kind of home support or Linux enthusiasts there?

Operative word turned up. And that included President + his vice ;-)
+ Secretary. It is not about distance to NOIDA but given so many
tech companies there no one turned up.

Secondly we do have the Andrew's back breaking work and his department
involved with OSS. If a senior member of faculty is fully involved
from JIIT in LUG activities it becomes easier.

We have enough OSS enthusiasts who'd be willing to volunteer and complete
cooperation from administration. We were having our mid-sem break when the
ILUG-D meeting took place so the college was totally deserted, there were no
students and only few faculty which is why only the coordinators of our LUG
attended the meeting.

Secondly we do have the Andrew's back breaking work and his department

We have complete support of our Vice Chancellor- Prof. J.P. Gupta
[EMAIL PROTECTED], CSE/IT H.O.D - Sh. Sanjay Goel [EMAIL PROTECTED],
Open Source Departmental Special Interest Group (DSIG) coordinator Mr. Arun
Chaturvedi [EMAIL PROTECTED]. I am the Technical Society Head of
our JIIT Youth Club jiityouthclub.org, Coordinator of OSS DSIG and Founder
Coordinator of JIITU-LUG. We conduct our annual techno-cultural festival -
JIVE jive05.com, jive06.com, jive07.com everywhere at a very big scale.
They want students to be involved in such activities, though we can arrange
a meeting with them to discuss this.

I totally agree on this. Dr. Andrew suggested that we have a satellite event
instead of making JIIT the venue for the main event for Freed.in 2008 and
then think of the prospects of having the main event here.
