If you mean, freedel like the first freed in September last

one. Nothing wrong with the second one but just that themes narrow
down the topics that we can talk about and such. freed/freedel rocks

Hi Al l@ IlugD and Buddy shirish,

A Acer Laptop of your mentioned config was for about Rs 29 K in Nehru
place-- abt 3 months back.

Am not sure about the Wireless Chipset though.

I suggest you check out the prices; and if anything interesting; do let us
all also know through your blog or this list about your final choice.

Yes, have seen a few Acer (Linplus) laptops with AMD64, even at places

better with GNU/Linux and ATI most of the time are troublemakers?

If you don't mind using proprietary drivers, some of which have had
unfixed root exploits and put your computer at risk for years, then nV
definitely plays better with Linux.

On the other hand, if you want to show support for and reward companies
who make their card APIs available to the FOSS community to develop
drivers with, ATI is the right choice.

[ilugd] Hard luck using TataIndicom USB with Ubuntu

Hi,

I am just curious if anyone in list successfully using TataIndicom (USB)
wireless with Debian or Ubuntu. I followed the instruction available
with the manual. It connects, receives IP and DNS but still I can't
browse internet. I am able to ping remote IP address it shows during
connection setup but none of the DNS servers. I googled for the same but
got different settings from different people. I would appreciate if
anyone shares his wvdial settings, or suggestions to resolve the same.

Nvidia display cards are worser... and even with proprietary drivers.
ATI Radeon has good OSS support...including 3D acceleration etc. On
laptops, most of the models have light cards with limited
capabilities. Avoid radeon 1650 though...some people have reported
strange problems on all OS ...on all drivers. See phonix.com for
reviews too

Any clues on how these compare on mobiles? Particularly Openmoko and
Android? Would the C/C++ thingy be a negative mark for Openmoko? I
understand there are license issues too (Symbian isn't 'yet' open
source, and Android is in Google's grip). But how does this reflect
when it comes to the user's interests? FN

Actually, as far as I'm concerned, that is a good thing (ability to
program natively in C/C++) for openmoko. So far, Android only provides
a java-like managed environment to developers which can be a put off
for many people because of app size/performance related issues and
more importantly, it'll take some time before the complete
functionality is available in this environment as compared to the
interfaces available to native programmers.
