If at some point you want to cancel your subscription, You will need to pay 2 months advance !, i.e the rental of the month in which you have decided to cancel and the subsequent next month. Now that they have paid 3500/- for the data card they are kind of stuck with (un) reliance. I use reliance *only* where I have *no* choice (like electricity) - no matter how good their offer sounds :( Have you recently tried checking the dns issue? I would suggest, that you wait until more providers come into the market. In Mumbai, I have seen !dea ads for wireless data connections @ 20*dial up speed. At present, I am quite happy with TataIndicom data card with 90-135Kbps mobile connections. -- Arun Khan ___ ilugd mailinglist -- ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd Archives at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.user-groups.linux.delhi http://www.mail-archive.com/ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org/

Wow! and they are getting away with it? It is illegal to charge for service not provided unless you are stopping the service before the contract period is over. I had a similar experience with their Mobile service way back in 2003. Told them in writing to terminate the service, yet they kept sending the bills. They kept calling on my MTNL land line asking to pay the dues. Each time, I reminded them that I had an inward of the above letter. When the calls did not stop I told them go ahead and sue me; after that the calls stopped. They count on most people to buckle and pay up when in reality they should stand up for their rights. -- Arun Khan ___ ilugd mailinglist -- ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd Archives at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.user-groups.linux.delhi http://www.mail-archive.com/ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org/
[ilugd] Wireless on Dell Inspiron 15 (CentOS 5.2)
Hi, I am trying to configure wireless on a Dell Inspiron 15 notebook. I am using CentOS 5.2. The output of lspci tells me that my wireless card is 0c:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4310 USB Controller (rev 01). The only way to get this up seems using ndiswrapper. Is there any other way? Also I am pretty sure that even if I get it working, my wireless card will not support raw monitoring (rfmon) mode. Please suggest any addon wireless cards (usb/other) which will run in rfmon and will be supported(not necessarily out of the box) by CentOS 5.2 and be easily available in the market, the cheaper the better :-) Also is there any other way of getting my present wifi card to work without using ndiswrapper? Re: [ilugd] Wireless on Dell Inspiron 15 (CentOS 5.2)
I did that, it says No package broadcom-wl available. Its weird. Are you sure you have enabled rpmfusion repositories in your machine? It worked for fedora, they removed that binary for centos? May be ask in centos irc. [ilugd] [X-Post] Freenode is looking for donations
- Forwarded Content -- I will try to keep this brief and to the point. This message has been cross posted to several lists which will explain why you might get more than one copy. I hope you find it informative too. Send all flames to me, not to the lists. I'm taking off the other hats I wear for a moment to ask for you or your company's support of Freenode [1] (technically the Peer-Directed Projects Center or PDPC) now based in the United Kingdom. For those that don't know, Freenode is an IRC [2] network supporting Open Source and Free Software communities globally. Another PDPC activity is the annual FOSSCON conference in the fall. PDPC is specifically [3] raising funds in order to be recognized by the UK as an official charitable organization. This status has many benefits, however they need to raise a certain amount of money by March, 2009. There are just a few days left in the fundraising campaign. Canonical Ltd. (the company created by Mark Shuttleworth that drives Ubuntu Linux) has graciously stepped forward to provide dollar for dollar matching, magnifying the impact of your donations to PDPC. The fund raising goal has almost been reached but your contribution is needed. Brainstorming by the PDPC board of directors for how to use any funds not used for operations includes hosting live conference events in Europe and the US, extending current services and improving the reliability of the freenode network by hosting a few of their own hubs and backup systems. Freenode is growing rapidly [4] supporting up to 57,000 concurrent users up from a maximum of about 40,000 18 months ago. Some people may not be aware that IRC is used by a huge array of Open Source and Free Software projects. The list of groups [5] Freenode works with is truly impressive. I feel it is not at all hyperbole to say that the work done over freenode and OFTC [6] are the real-time backbone of open source collaboration throughout the world, Coders use the IRC network to develop applications used by millions of people every day and provide *end user support*. If you use any open source software you may be an indirect beneficiary of the services Freenode provides. I encourage those who are interested to try launching an IRC client such as Pidgin [7] and see for yourself. You won't be sorry you did. While I have used Freenode for many years, this year I too became a contributor for the first time. For a one time contribution http://freenode.net/pdpc_donations.shtml of as little as $8 you can join me in supporting Freenode and the many Open Source projects they serve.
