Thanks for the input. I do everything that it takes to get Linux into devices
from handhelds to robots. I also design these devices. Got one onto the Nokia
Million Dollar Challenge - search for "Nokia GEVC", "vyas labs rdk". My survey
stemmed from the fact that IISc found it appropriate to admit an academic
maverick like me for a PhD and I did not know how to shrug off my corp job and
still ensure that my family does not boot me out!

Sure Narendra - I agree a wiki page will be good for this. I have a created one
on the IndSoftEx wiki.

Re: [ilugd] [Commercial] FOSS Consultancy as a job option in India

2011-07-20 Thread Arjun Venkatraman
Narendra pretty much has it right. I consult, not exactly for FOSS, but for
the non profit market (e.g. http://cgnetswara.org), who use a lot of FOSS. I
can tell you that I see some big funding happening, but the competition is
pretty tough.
Speaking of which, what kind of work do you do? I am always looking for
collaborators to get projects.

Voice it on ##linux-india on freenode ... there are quite a few
consultants out there (including me. /me blushes :D ).
Also, try ilugc list.

[ilugd] [Commercial] FOSS Consultancy as a job option in India

2011-07-20 Thread Abhishek Choudhary
Hi,
I am trying to figure out FOSS consultancy options that exist in India and
online (globally). It will be great if you can point me to some case studies of
success (and failure). Better still if you can share your own story. For larger
good I will write a report on my findings (under CC or GFDL).
Disclaimer: I will also use the information to figure out some viable earning
option around FOSS and try and fund my PhD!
