[ilugd] efax: No alert for incoming fax

2011-04-02 Thread H.S.Rai
I am able to successfully send and receive faxes on my PC. But there
is no indication of an incoming fax so there is no way to know a fax
is coming, just by watching (while testing in same room) that other
person is sending fax, and clicking Answer the call I receive fax.
What that is not possible in real deployment.

I worked on Ubuntu 10.10, with USB Modem (I got with Dell laptop), which
is Conexant RD02-D400.

STANDBY MODE (automatic answering mode) is not working. I changed
initialization params from Z FED2S7=120 C0 M1L0 to Z FED2S7=120
C0 M1L2 S11=55 but no success.

I tried with and without  S0=3, while I guess RINGS: 3 (efax-gtk) is
doing the same job.

I suspect this that modem is not recognising incoming ring. Can I have
some hint about parameters and their range which I can try to make it
recognising incoming ring?

One of my friend bought a Dell laptop without windows few days back. So, I
am sure that you can get a DELL laptop without pre-installed windows.

Buying PC / Laptop without MS product will not guarantee that you will
be able to exploit its full hardware capability on Linux. I purchased
laptop with FreeDOS, failed to get some features (like audio recording
/ webcam ) worked at all.

Even buying preinstalled Linux may also be not a solution. Example is
Intel Classroom tablet. Preinstalled Ubuntu, works excellent, but if
you want to its upgrade, other flavour, you will find stylus (touch
screen / wifi / bluetooth) not working and company advise you not to
upgrade. Do it at your risk + lose of warranty.

In some cases, pre-installed M$ product, can work very well as dual
boot on any flavour of Linux. So YMMV.

Unless hardware company support FOSS, give you freedom, it is
struggle. Better combine hand to fight this struggle rather than
developing one's skill in resolving issues only. Legal / Political /
Social fronts are equally important.

 Got it working.

You need to create folder /home/user/Contacts

It created one file for each contact, like:

==
hs...@hsrai:~/Contacts$ cat 1
BEGIN:VCARD
VERSION:2.1
N:Lucky
TEL;CELL:9412312345
X-CLASS:private
FN:Lucky
END:VCARD
hs...@hsrai:~/Contacts$
===

Can we make these available in Evolution Contacts or GMail Contacts?

There was also Evolution plugin in multisync0.90, so I guess I could
transfer all downloaded contacts from mobile, to Evolution contact, so
setup a fresh Evolution, but could not do that.

Is it possible to shift contacts of mobile to contacts of Evolution
(or like that GMail contacts)?
