There is a project called Flyback.

 http://flyback-project.org/

Its a GUI for a bunch of commands.

Flyback AFAIK is not being maintained anymore. You can try out Back In
 Time http://backintime.le-web.org

Excellent! Very easy to setup and use. And with KDE and Gnome
interfaces! I've started using it immediately.

Hi

I would like to share the following backup script?being used by me. Works
Fine. Just in case some one needs it.

My /home is 40 GB abd?tar.gz file comes to 20 GB and takes about 1 hour 10
 mins to create.

My question is - Is there faster way to take the backup?

[snip]

 echo - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - /root/logs/dailybackup.lo

I use rdiff-backup, extremely easy to use and does an incremental backup and
only copies what is new after the first backup, and also keeps screenshots
of backup to go back to a previous state of data.

Why not go the incremental way? I've been using Brackup successfully,
and I'm planning to move to a git-based system - although the
existing-git-repositories-as-submodules keeps throwing me off. It's been
a while since I tried, so the situation might have changed.

I use mirrordir. Once the first run is complete , it only takes a few
seconds to update the changes.

Where is the back up kept? On the same machine and hard disk? Not good at all.

Try rsync and you can put the script in crontab to backup on to
another machine or within same machine of different hard disk.

Well, the incremental backup is the way to go, like everyone said. You can
use rsync for that. Its quite easy.
