[ilugd] Follow-up on ABES, Ghaziabad workshop, 23/8/08

2008-08-25 Thread Gora Mohanty
Hi,
The workshop last Sat, 23rd Aug., at the ABES Engineering
College was a success, with some 100-odd students, faculty
from several colleges, and other people in attendance. A
fair amount of interest was also generated in ILUG-Delhi,
and we will hopefully have more people coming to meetings.

I have added copies of presentations to the Wiki page at
http://wiki.linux-delhi.org/cgi-bin/twiki/Main/ABESGhaziabadWorkshop
Supreet, and Shantanu, please upload your presentations.
I have also added my views on the workshop under the Feedback
section of the above page, and would encourage other attendees
to do the same.

We should have several more workshops in the next few months,
and I will be writing up some of my thoughts on such a programme.
In the meantime, it would also help if we could have a
discussion on how one ensures a continued engagement with the
colleges after such workshops.

Regards,
Gora

2008-08-25 Thread shantanu
Hi all,
I think workshop was great and would surely motivate some students towards
FOSS. What i can think of way of how to get colleges to get into some
follow-up work in this direction is that maybe we can target faculty
members rather then college as whole. I personally think if FOSS is
promoted and used extensively in curriculum itself it will bring more
people in this movement. Maybe we can target faculty members, having a
workshop for them, asking them from commitments(even we can ask them to
promote and encourage taking up projects in FOSS maybe for major projects
of final year and mini one too). I remember even we tried to introduce
FOSS as subject in our college after one such work shop but our so called
senate turned it down :(

regards
shantanu
