Not in my opinion. Keeping in mind the tenets of data

great idea !

the entry needs to talk about freed.in the overall event, and then the
sep2k7 instance of the event.
therefore, freed.in the event, should be represented by the freed.in logo.
the sep2k7 event can be represented by the banner.

these are two different things. classes and instances...

My sentiments exactly. Also, why isn't the entry Freed.in instead of
Freed? (Grabbing the most popular keywords huh, forget about accuracy!)
This is certainly not the way to promote Freed.in.

And the editing has been done shabbily, with the original entry for Freed
left as it is down at the bottom. This is just wrong.

The point is not to remove it,

((
omg - you cant do this - please remove it

but to improve it! right?

((
quote

Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable

/quote
))

So why not add references ( valid ones ) to the article? There have been
events in the past ( named Freedel ), so there is lot to be put in there.
And ( perhaps ) rename the article form freed to freed.in ( suggests
Anupam ). So that it becomes factual, notable, verifiable with external
sources cited. BUT not `remove` it.

((
quote

/quote
))

freed.in Rocks !!

of course, i *have* noticed that wikipedia editors tend to be a
little lenient with stuff coming out of India as they feel we are a
backward country and, if judged by stricter western standards, may
get discouraged - so the article *may* slip through.

Agreed totally. I *could* have fixed it but I am not the one with
appropriate content on Freed.in.. I was just giving the person who

do any of the other articles have these comments attached? Instead of

And this blatant advertising for freed is just going to confirm the

OK, since you appear to be most concerned about India's image, why don't

look forward to kenneth making a positive contribution to wikipedia,

Good LORD!

Gotta love discussions on issues which require about
15 minutes to fix, and perhaps double that typing out
philosophies on why not to.

Kenneth - your opinions on this matter, imho, are
rather baseless. Wikipedia does have issues against
original research, but NOT articles which cite
references - (to pages outside of wikipedia as a
primary source of information). Of course, keeping
them NPOV (Neutral Point of view) is an art, which I
do agree a lot of potential article authors are not
well versed with.

As for articles with 'comments' attached - thats the
general rule on any encyclopaedia. You cite references
before you make claims, and automated bots/human
editors run around on the website, checking whether
these things are done or not. Its the norm, not the
exception.

Note to whoever made logos (Niyam?) - Please attribute
a license to them, and change it on the images page on
the (updated) wikipedia article. And mention it on the
freed.in website too. Perhaps a press kit would be a
good idea - logos, and a small blurb ready made for
anyone who wants to cover it.

i have no material at hand to make any positive contribution to this
particular subject - but since viksit has fixed it, the question is
now moot. i am still of the opinion that if an event/person is
important enough, it will get into wikipedia when it deserves to and
it is not ethical for organisers/supporters of the event/person to
force the issue. I am also of the opinion that appropriate content
should be put in appropriate places - the place for the announcement
of a forthcoming event is wikinews - and if the news builds up
enough, and if the event is worthy enough, it will make it's own way
into wikipedia.

there are three ways to fix something broken in wikipedia:

1. fix it in wikipedia - given that you have the material and
interest to do so and are willing to face the storm about editing ...

2. raise the issue in the discussion page next to the article

3. raise the issue in this mailing list - which may (hopefully) raise

It may take longer to teach a person to fish than to actually buy a
