:-)

thanks everyone for responding.
inspired by karanbir, i found a quick and easier solution to implement:

just buy one apple macbook pro for each gmail account. thus can log in
concurrently, as gmail gets fooled into thinking i'm not the same
person, but several different people logging into several different
accounts from several laptops.

you should also check out the two suitcases i bought for safely
travelling with my dozen laptops.

To address the original problem, you can forward them all to a single
account, use filters based on the To field (check archive) so that
your inbox is empty and the mails are all folded into separate labels.

Then use the multiple accounts feature in Gmail (settings - accounts)
to get multiple from fields.

Or even use the new POP import to import from multiple Gmail accounts.

The problem with this is that it doesn't offer anonymity. Gmail's from
header munging has an (on behalf of: actual-email-id) in the header
portion.

i have several gmail accounts dedicated to different projects and tasks.
have set up some accounts to forward from one to the other, and to
offer me a choice of emails in the 'from' field. nevertheless, this is

even more inelegant is logging out and logging in to separate accounts

one option is to use a mail client like thunderbird. but i have to
work through web-browsers only and not mail-clients.
yet i can't open multiple tabs or windows and log into separate gmail

requesting this feature have probably been redirected by them to

I create a separate Firefox/Iceweasel profile for my Gmail access and
use only that for logging into Gmail. If you have multiple accounts,
you can create one profile per account, start off one Iceweasel per
profile and log into all the accounts simultaneously. You can even
create multiple buttons -- one for starting Iceweasel with each
profile -- and use those to launch: iceweasel -P profilename %u

I use the Gmail Notifier addon/extension for firefox. It sits in the

on regular intervals. A counter indicates number of unread messages.

Work with Evolution. Working in Webbrowsers is good for some reason, but
many different reasons, you will find Mail Clients are good. Evolution
is frustrating, but even then it is one of the best among available mail
readers. I can't say anything about Thunderbird, used once, liked less.
Outlook is better if on WIndows(becaues of mail summary on home page,
but i still prefer Evolution, and wishing if it gets something like
MainPage showing how many mails, pending tasks and other things are
available.)
yet i can't open multiple tabs or windows and log into separate gmail

Mozilla has its cache system (as usual to other browsers) to store all
the cookies. And there is restrction for site for no. of caches it can
save on system (actually no. and size).
Now google developer have gone with other solution. When there is a
login cache (current login), the next browser with gmail will
automatically open the current login account. Thats solution for many
people, though your specific problem. Thats not a problem for google to
change this, but they have thought it better, and also there is security
context with it.

recently, i found a clever little hack for myself: launch firefox, and
the epiphany web browser concurrently. this way i can keep myself

Hey bro, this is not hack :)
When you open different mozilla windows, they share same resources and
container to save things. Like history, cookie, cache pages and items,
form field values etc.
So, two firefox tabs and windows will share same container for
resources.

can anybody please recommend me another, and more elegant way of
concurrently logging-in via the web to multiple gmail accounts?
There are many solutions possible,
1. Use Evolution, Create Multiple A/C and done
2. Use glite library to create your own page, that will fetch different
mail accounts and show you all in catagories.
3. recompile mozilla firefox with little HACK not to share the common
comtainer
4. Create multiple profiles for Firefox (as told by other users)
5. Make multiple user account on computer, say user1, user2, user3 ...In
terminal login as user1 and open firefox from there. Since the
preference directory for firefox will be all in user's specific dir, it
wont be using same cache/
and many other solutions which I don't know or think of. :)
huh, most solutions are crap instead #1, use evolution or thunderbird.
Thats the best solution

Can some configure options be given like that? This is quite
interesting. Never tried that.

If you mean the solution is like opening a GUI terminal, and then 'su
user1', x-server does not allow to open another display. At least this
is what happens on Ubuntu. Even su into root, and then as root, 'su
user1' too does not allow it.

For checking Bangla webpages with different settings, once I used
another way. Going to a virtual terminal, with ctrl-alt-f*, and then,
after logging in as 'user1', 'startx -- :1' will start another x-server,
as user1. This then allows to use firefox, obviously with another cache
and all, as you suggested. These multiple x-servers can increase to six,
with :2, :3, so on, obviously if your system has a quite big RAM.

open multiple firefox instances, each with a diferent profile - and
although this is slightly more on topic than your UPS thread, you
should really find a correct forum for your questions.
