If your PC cannot resolve the hostname, it might be a problem with your
DNS settings. Do a dig google.com and see that the you get some reply
from the DNS and not some error like server timeout etc.

Also try pinging 216.239.37.99 (which is google). If you have set things
correctly, it might be a problem from the ISP's end.

Which DSL connection are you using ? How is the speed and the $$ charged ?

Hi

You should also talk to your Local ISP, are they using any Proxy Server? In
case yes, ask them the relevant IP and the port and you have to specify the
same in Mozilla. The menu option is Edit-Preferences-Advanced-Proxies.
I hope this helps.

try pinging 202.54.15.1 which is vsnl's dns server. if that works, then
the problem seems to be with your dns settings. login with root, open
   /etc/resolv.conf
in that file enter your dns servers. my resolv.conf looks like

### /etc/resolv.conf :: Begins ###

nameserver 202.54.15.1
nameserver 202.56.230.5

### /etc/resolv.conf :: Ends   ###

get the dns servers from your isp and put them in that file. that should
work

looks like a problem with the DNS settings. As root open
/etc/resolv.conf and add the entry nameserver 202.54.1.30 (without the
quotes).
