It seems to becoming more common. But anytime I have to test some I
like to print out labels and put them on the stick. Both capacity and
speed if available. Saves a lot of time down the road. But then I move
memory around a lot more than most.

on this computer and was backing up to zip disks. The zip drive has
died. We tried to use flash drives but when they are inserted we get
the never ending watch. I think its a USB 1 vs. 2 issue.

It shouldn't be, the flash drive should still be usable whether even if
it is USB 2. It may just take time because of the slow speed of USB 1.

She has another imac tray loading, G3 233 mz, 64 mb ram, 4 GB hard

I'd like to backup the first imac to the 2nd imac. Any ideas how?
 Any other backup ideas?

If they both have FireWire then you can use a FW cable between them and
use FW Target Disk Mode. Old down the t key one one and the FireWire
symbol will start bouncing around the screen. That machine can then be
used just like a firewire drive.

Otherwise, as others have suggested use Ethernet.

I know this is a late comment, but I have been following this thread; when
U reset the PRAM, you DID hold the keys for four(4) restart bongs, right?

Also, I think i asked this before, but I remember you mentioning you loaded
the OS in the HDD using another machine, I think? What Mac did U use?

Finally, It might be time to consider re-installing the original HDD, and
using your 10.3 install disk to reset the password.

If it was running OSX before, there's a good chance it already had the
firmware update.
Besides, we accidentally did that to a 350Mhz Blueberry slot-loader,
installed 10.4 without updating the firmware. In that case, it stops
recognizing the monitor, and it just stops displaying video.

Getting Mail to work with two machines

2009-09-05 Thread William Spencer
Hi there: I am hoping there's a way to get the newer machine (see
details below) when it fires up Mail to do so using the mailboxes on
the older machine. (This is because I generally use the older machine
but occasionally it's not available to me.) It looks as though the
Synchronize feature only works 1) if you have a .Mac account, which I
don't, or 2) only if your mail server uses the IMAP protocols, which
mine doesn't...they use POP. Is there some other technique I can use
to achieve this? Mail on the older machine is version 2.1.3, and I
don't know the version on the newer machine since I just installed
Snow Leopard last night. As always, my thanks in advance!
