These computers may still be salvageable. I am a repair tech, and I have
saved many liquid damaged MacBooks from the recycling bin by disassembling
the machine and running the Logic Board through an ultrasonic cleaner. I
would recommend to find a local technician who has one of these machines
and they may be able to help you.

Here is some more information about performing ultrasonic cleaning on
electronics:

>I waited just a few minutes before trying to turn them on.

I'm afraid that was a big mistake.
I'm sorry to be harsh, but... how do you think a few minutes were enought
to dry them?!?

>There was no sign of life, no sparks, no flames, nothing.

Most of computers' inner circuits work at or around 5V. That kind of power
doesn't make sparks or flames, but can be enough to fry a small IC or
diode.

>I keep trying to turn them on, with or without their chargers, but
>nothing happens.

Again, bad. The more you put electricity into them before allowing TOTAL
dryness, the likelier is the damage.

I'm afraid the damage has been done now, but there's a little chance it
has not.
My advice would be this:
- Relax, breath, stop acting irrational ;-)
- Let the Macs alone, in a warm and ventilated room, with NO power and NO
batteries, with the lid open, for at least three days. This is true for
the working one too: there might be some water inside, and running it is
risky (not too great a chance, but I wouldn't risk it).
- Do something else.
If you really need to use a computer or access the Net, borrow a computer
from a friend or go to a public place letting you use one (like a library
or an Internet cafe).

>It has also decided to reboot by itself a few times.

That might be some water still inside it.

Again, when a computer get wet inside, the LAST thing you need to do is
power it up!

2021-06-18 Thread Paul Londoner
I waited just a few minutes before trying to turn them on. There was no
sign of life, no sparks, no flames, nothing. It has now been over 24 hours
since this happened. I keep trying to turn them on, with or without their
chargers, but nothing happens. Meanwhile, the MacBook Pro (mid 2012, 4Gb)
is still working and I can now do normal mouse clicks, but the keyboard
still doesn't work and I'm using a USB keyboard. It has also decided to
reboot by itself a few times. Before checking my email to see if anyone had
replied I even had problems turning this computer on!

Really? Do you work for Apple or something? If money was no object I would
buy a new MacBook or two. That's the whole point!

How long did you wait before turning them on?
I think you should allow at least 2 to 3 days (in a warm ambient)...

Water (inside a computer) is not so bad in itself (salt water would be
worse, but rainwater should be clean enough)... if the computer is OFF.
It's when you have water + electric energy that bad things happen!
Hence if you didn't wait long enough, maybe that's what created the issue.
Or, water got to the battery, and that would be bad enough in itself for
the battery (but maybe not for the rest of circuits).

I'm sorry I don't have specific help about this; never ever happened to me
(but I only use desktops).
Googling "water inside my PC / computer" should give you plenty of hints,
since it happens to lot of people.
