RE: [info-tech] Skype?

My office staff uses it and loves it, but I don't get that much chance to sit
down and use a computer during the day.

[info-tech] User tool...

2009-08-06 Thread McKenney, Kurt
Well, it had to happen eventually, We've upgraded our servers to 64bit Dual
quad-core xeons with 2TB in a raid5 array. (I had to tell someone and I'm the
only person in 20 miles that can actually comprehend all of those terms
simultaneously.) they're fast, stable, and have so much room I'm at a loss as
to what to do with all of it... Until the virtualization project starts.

But there is a problem.

We've been using the usertool provided by the AEA for years and we love it.
It's easy, it's fast, and as long as the relevant personnel remember to use it,
it makes life so much easier. Unfortunately the version we have is apparently
incompatible with a 64bit OS, and it is way too late to change back to 32bit.

Is anyone aware of a replacement utility? I'd love to say price is no object,
but I am willing to pay a reasonable amount for a user friendly tool.

[info-tech] Mp3 Leveler?

2009-08-06 Thread McKenney, Kurt
We're starting to use Mp3 players more and more in the classroom as an
alternative to the old fashioned boom boxes. They work well, hHowever it's my
job to have answers ready for questions that haven't yet been answered.

So, to that end, what are y'all using for Mp3 leveling?

Kurt,
I'm not sure what tool you are talking about. Do you have additional
information about it?

It may be possible to port the tool to 64-bit land, or maybe I can
recommend a good replacement.

Kurt,
The iPods have a feature called sound check that can maintain
normalized volume on all tracks. Is that what you're looking for?

I'm at home now, so I'm not sure of the specifics. Scott provided this tool for
me years ago when I converted us off of a Novell system. Basically it sets up
and maintains the users, profiles, basic permissions, and basic user group.

Re: [info-tech] User tool...

2009-08-06 Thread Scott Fosseen
I have not had time to see if there is an easy fix. My assumption is that
the old Lan Manager functions have been disabled in 2k8. Usertool does not
interact with Active Directory. You may want to research to see if Lan
Manager compatibility can be enabled and see if that helps.

When I moved I misplaced my programming IDE application and have now
replaced my original development system. Currently I don't have a way to
update Usertool without a $1000 investment.

Another thing I can probably do is see if I can modify an older copy of
UserTool that created batch files. Originally all I did was write batch
files that used the net user command. It may be pretty simple to update the
old version to use the DSMOD command. It is from the old dos version of
Turbo Pascal which I should be able to run without installing. (There are
some things I REALLY like about running DOS.
