[info-tech] Photoshop Alternative

2009-09-18 Thread Brad Kruse
The Rabiner Treatment Center is part of our school district and we work with
them. They have about 70 - 100 students and their own teachers. They need
about 30 licenses of Photoshop. We have a building license for CS3 but that
seems overkill for their building. What is a good alternative for Photoshop.
Also, is there an alternative to Acrobat. Thanks.

Gimpshop for photoshop, and as for Acrobat, that depends on what exactly you
want to do with it.

Not sure if you need to go for the full-blown feature set or not, but we
load paint.net on our standard image, which gives you a lot of the
Photoshop options.

We have a few Nanos that have been given out to our TAG and Music
programs. Haven't heard of any problems, but I cannot confirm their
regular use either. Some of those Nano's have the Belkin recorder that
enables them to create their podcasts. Seems to work pretty slick. We
had an extra set so we have given it to a Special Ed room for notes and
things so the students can record them.

I haven't heard any good or bad things.

Keep in mind that if you buy the new Nano you'll also be buying a video

We have nanos. Beginning to really start using these this year. As
well as setting up listening centers in classrooms with them.
(Belkin headphone splitters -- can connect 5 headsets to one iPod
-- really nice!) Also--zamzar.com -- will convert text into MP3
files for you (tests, worksheets) without having to record it
yourself. Keep in mind it does have the computer voice, though.

Touches have the flexibility of applications, which I like, but the
cameras in the Nanos, make them interesting. I think we will end up
