How intensive do you want to get?

If you are trying to string together gifs,
that is one thing.

If you want basic easy to use flash
animation you could look into swish http://www.swishzone.com/index.php?area=home

I
have a couple of students that want to work with animation (mostly web).

We
used to use Adobe AfterEffects years ago.  I am wondering if I should just
buy the newest version or should I buy Flash or both or something else.  There
are so many different products sold now.  Thanks.

Title: Message

I just dl'ed Blender for my Linux box, (http://www.blender.org/cms/Home.2.0.html )
but they also have other platforms.

Their page
says: Blender is the open source software for 3D modeling,
animation, rendering, post-production, interactive creation and playback.
Available for all major operating systems under the GNU General Public
License.

I'm thinking its kinda like 3D studio Max. I
dunno for sure, I haven't messed with it much yet

There is also a web site called Teaching
Animation using open source tools  at http://cinepaint.bigasterisk.com/TeachingAnimationUsingOpenSourceTools if
you're  interested.

I guess I always check out the open source
stuff first before purchasing

I would use Flash

Adobe also has Live Motion

There are also some very simple products from Tech4Learning. They
were at ITEC and I got a sample of their imagination suite.

But these are just my humble opinions. I am sure there are other out
there.
