Re: [info-tech] board policy - Internet use
Brad, We use the same model that Webster City is using. With the internet being such a part of the curriculum anymore and only a couple of parents not wanting kids on it we have taken that route. Saves on paperwork. We do have it posted in the Student handbooks and a condensed version goes out in our registration email. BTW: we do the same things with our media consent form. Thanks, Jon W. Re: [info-tech] board policy - Internet use
What would a teacher or principal do if a student was reading a Playboy magazine (printed copy) in the back of a classroom during a boring lecture session? Should we be providing the same type of punishment for online abuse? I think we will continue to use the same one as we have now as the Iowa Assn of School Boards still suggest using this type of sign-off policy. They have simiplified in the past year, however. Title: Message That was our old model in Webster City. Several years ago we changed to an informed consent model. Basically we say computers are an essential tool in modern education and by default all students have access to it. Parents not wanting to allow their kids to use it need to notify the superintendent office in writing. Mark Mark J. RE: [info-tech] board policy - Internet use
Brad- We still have that in place here in Fort Dodge. Students (and staff) who want their own login to the Internet must attend an Internet Workshop before they can get access. After students attend that workshop, their contract must be signed by both the student and the parent. We have seen several cases where the parents do not allow their kids access to the Internet.
