Another point that I should have made is that even though there are 4
canon ZR camcorders showing on the Canon website ... only the ZR960 is
available.

The point is also valid for the other listings on the Canon website
for about everything they advertise on their website... the list is
not current for what is available unless some electronics store or
internet shop has some stock.

FYI
1. The ZR960 does have a mic input
2. It does have a firewire and a composite video terminal
3. It does not have an S-video or USB port
4.	I was told last Nov / Dec that miniDV was going to be discontinued
by Canon ... but then they came out with the ZR960 as the only model
available.
5.	The Canon ZR is still a good option for schools as it is easy to
use and is inexpensive @ $239.37.

One point with digital video cameras we (I) learned the hard way was
to be sure the model you purchase can be connected to a computer for
using editing software, such as iMovie. We had ordered a dvd model
but it could not be connected to the computer. Fortunately, we were
able to exchange it for one of the Canon ZR series that could be
connected. Just an FYI.

A difficult option to find, but an important one IMHO is an external microphone
jack. Almost all consumer recorders have went away from this feature. If you
are trying to record in a noisy area though an external microphone is a must.
