[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 15 Nov 2009
TPs?? What TPs?? Is the antenna connected?? This rated as likely the worst morning in a couple of months, with zero audio from TPs. (Well, maybe a word or two on 1575, but that was it) Even the big Japanese were merely rather feeble carriers. The good news is that my unID on 846 from yesterday turned out to be Tagalog, hence Radio Veritas, DZRV, for my 1st Filipino other than VOA. 73, Nigel Pimblett currently in Lamont, Alberta ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

[IRCA] TP stands for Totally Pathetic in NW Washington - 15 Nov 2009
I'm glad it wasn't just me - conditions this morning were almost spooky they were so poor. I thought I heard a little audio on 594 from Japan, but that was from a very weak het. I lucked out yesterday and slept in on a below-average morning, but I should have stayed in bed this morning as well. [IRCA] OK, so what's on 594: TPs Orcas Island.
In truth, by body count standards, it was a poor morning... About half the normal number in audio, high and low and generally, the audio was poor. On the other hand, there were some real interesting things. 639 CNR1 was walking tall most of my 1440-1525 morning 828: a bit after 1500, it was probably Beijing Business Radio with another CC beneath. I presume that NHK2 was off by then 882: Who was that masked man? 918: BIG echos on the usual Shandong at 1450 1098: I'm pretty sure that it was Radio Taiwan International doing much better than usual, with 4+1 pips and nice TOH routine at 1500 1575: Radio Farda, presumed, was putting in some ME music under VOA at 1525. But the big one was, around 1515, who the heck was on 594 I had no other channel with presumed NHK1 on it in audio and what I had on 594 was NOT Japanese. It was also not standard Chinese and it was not Korean. further, it had a distinct ECHO. My best guess would be Taiwan, there are three transmitters there, two with the same program... Taipei 2. I should have tried to // this on the 'net, but I did not. ANY IDEAS!!! I don't think that it was Mayak, either. Recording on request. At 16:43 11/15/2009, you wrote: In truth, by body count standards, it was a poor morning... About half the normal number in audio, high and low and generally, the audio was poor. On the other hand, there were some real interesting things. This was my morning to sleep in, which sounds wise by others' reports. John, however, is illustrating my mantra that conditions aren't bad, just different.you just have to find out which direction they are being different from before you quit in disgust, though of course an open path from the middle of the Southern Ocean isn't all that helpful. So far as I know NHK2 was still signing off at 1540 and 1600UT this last week, but maybe they've changed again, at least for their Sunday night. I wonder if JOBB was just really in the murk at that time? [IRCA] TP DX this morning
This morning was a bit better than yesterday, though not by much. It's pretty clear that the season is past its peak, and we can now move on to things like Christmas shopping. Most of the action was in the 700s and 800s. Re: [IRCA] OK, so what's on 594: TPs Orcas Island.
Hi John, It's nice to see somebody else interested in the late-season shenanigans on 594 kHz, and I'd be very interested to hear your MP3 from this morning (around 1515). Because of the Korean-language station mystery recently I spent a lot of time on the 594 frequency, making multiple MP3's of the JOAK-KBS1 mix (four good ones now) and the JOAK-UnID Chinese mix (two good ones). I found that JOAK's NHK1 programming often includes content that would be pretty deceptive to someone expecting standard Japanese speech, and that while JOAK would occasionally be weaker than the KSB1 Korean or the UnID Chinese station on 594 khz, it would never be completely absent. Since you apparently heard an isolated station on 594 khz, it would seem strange that JOAK didn't at least have a trace on the frequency, at that time. Linked below are two recent MP3's of 594-JOAK fighting it out with co-channels, on the 9' box loop. The first recording has the KBS1 station competing with (and occasionally overtaking) JOAK on November 10th, and the second one has the UnID Chinese temporarily on top of JOAK on November 1. Although JOAK would occasionally be weaker, it was always around, which makes it seem strange that it wouldn't at least have a trace in your 1515 recording this morning. 73, Gary _http://www.mediafire.com/?wwbu4dqqmmy_ (http://www.mediafire.com/?wwbu4dqqmmy) (JOAK and KBS1, 11-10-09) _http://www.mediafire.com/?tmnvtnvhzyw_ (http://www.mediafire.com/?tmnvtnvhzyw) (JOAK and the UnID Chinese, 11-01-09) In a message dated 11/15/2009 8:44:57 A.M. [IRCA] Kona TP/DU November 15
Full report coming -- I listening from 0930 to about 1015 UTC before I went to bed... and it was chock-a-block up and down the dial with JJ, Russian, Aussie, KK, CC and some Island stuff. Doing things a little differently -- not really referring to any guides directly (WRTH, PAL, etc) just listening, noting times, frequencies and details... such as language and QRM if any. I can sort of see how Hawaii ties in with the rest of the WCNA scene -- as, however strong the signals are (they are not gangbusters by any means...) they simply have very little interference from here in the Hawaiian Islands - and there are wild variations between days. And what is also interesting is the kind of WC reception I am getting - how little of it most of the time... Heading to HILO next week for another angle on the mainland. -- .. [IRCA] Alberta TAs
After a slow start this evening conditions seem to have picked up with TA audio noted on 531, 855, 675, 864, 981, 1134, 1575. 864 is Armenia rather than France, and 855 appears to be Romania. 981 sounded Arabic, but is Algeria not gone from there? Good to the east also as Montreal was coming through CBW.

[IRCA] Kona TA/TP/DU for 16th November - Skype anyone
Yes I did have an actual carrier on 1575khz 20 minutes prior to sunset. Long gone now -- will look for others. If anyone wants to show up after 0850UTC via Skype (userid - coffee_experts) I can treat anyone to TP/DU audio via the computer connection live. Just a thought. Meantime - must ferret through this mornings miniDisc catches and edit over to the ZOOM H4. -- .. [IRCA] TA ho hum
Given the K's and the solar wind velocity, it's not surprising that TA's are down. The surprise is how many carriers there are (including a pair bookending my local on 900kHz), and that there's poor but definite audio on 855 fairly consistently around 0330UT. Have also heard traces of audio on 1215.
