Re: [IRCA] Saved Perseus Files
Not exactly. Perseus defaults to opening the last used directory, whatever it might be. This default applies for the rest of the current running of Perseus and for subsequent runnings of Perseus. When you say doesn't want me to pick from the deskptop, I am not clear as to whether you mean the desktop directory or its files are not displayed, or do you mean they are displayed but you can not select them? Re: [IRCA] Saved Perseus Files
Look in the program's menus for PREFERENCES or CONFIGURATION. There will be places that you can set all of your folder specs. If you don't set them, you get what you get. Also, clicking on the file on the Desktop itself will cause the file to open (or try to) with whatever application is defined by Windows to be associated with that type of file. That doesn't change unless you tell it to either. Re: [IRCA] Saved Perseus Files
I just looked through the Perseus manual and all the program's configuration settings, and there's no mention of any way to specify the default directory - my experience is as Chuck mentions, it always defaults to the last directory used. I perused the system registry to see where Perseus stores the last used location (since that's where Perseus says it stores all its settings) but I cannot find an entry anywhere for it. It's not in the tree HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microtelecom s.r.l./perseus with all the other program settings. This begs the question of exactly where does the program store that information between runs? There is a log file named perseuslf that appears to get created in the same directory as perseus.exe when starting the program, but that doesn't contain any file location information. If you could find out where the program stores this information, you might be able to manually change it, Brett On Sat, Jan 24, 2015 at 5:37 PM, Chuck Hutton charle...@msn.com wrote: Not exactly. The more detail you can give, the better your chances of success. I select 'wav' on Perseus the select 'file' on Perseus ... at that point the Documents folder opens along with its selections of previuosly recorded files that I have put there. If the file that I want to play is a new one, it is on the desktop at this point. If I then click on that file (on the desktop), it opens in the windows media player. If I want to hear the file on Perseus I need to drag it into the documents folder as I have indicated earlier. I probably should just have Mestor put all of the files in there to begin with and the extra step would be gone. I was interested in how / where others saved their files. Re: [IRCA] Saved Perseus Files
I just did a Google search and found a manual...I don't know if it is for the same version of the software that you have. A link is here: http://microtelecom.it/perseus/perseususermanual-en14.pdf The top half of page 17 says essentially that recording and playback are both done based on browsing to the directory where files are/will be stored. The only thing that could make that quirky is that Windows 7 sometimes uses two different references for system areas. One you can access and the other one gets you a slap on the wrist when you try (Access Denied messages). They want you to store everything in My Documents, which is actually the worst possible place to store files considering that you will eventually need to rebuild your computer when user registry hives crash due to bloat. They do that so forensic analysis of bad guys is easier to do. If the stuff I said in the last paragraph resembles what you are getting, create directories for your Perseus use, and put everything there. Re: [IRCA] Saved Perseus Files
Steve, I also use Mestor almost every night to capture TOH recordings. I use an external hard drive (either a bare SATA drive in an eSATA/USB3 dock like http://goo.gl/QAF2EV or a traditional USB3 external drive). I make a subdirectory on the drive like HomePerseus then tell Mestor to use it with SET E:\HomePerseus SHIFT to organize the files into folders by date (the SHIFT parameter tells Mestor to put anything created after 2000 UTC in the next day's folder to keep each night's recordings together). When the drive fills up I can just disconnect it and connect a new drive. With 1 TB bare SATA drives less that $50 now it's a pretty cost effective way to archive recordings. As for not being able to play files from the desktop, I just tried that and it works ok on my computer, and I can 't come up with any explanation of why it won't work for you.
