That would be a really great service to newcomers, thanks for donating
the time.

What I would like to ask: If PdfPTable is so much superior to Table,
why include the latter at all anymore? I mean, it seems about 30% of
the time the answer to questions on the list is "use PdfPTable". If
there still is any point to Tables, it would be a very good idea to
make it much more clear in the documentation / tutorial when to use
either...
It must be admitted that when someone tries to use a table for the
first time, they can hardly be blamed for using something called
"Table" over something called "PdfPTable"...

thanks for a nice toolkit,
Dirk.

Yes, that's right.
I will take a week off to make release 1.1 in november
or december. The official iText1.1 will be the same as
the experimental version at that moment. I will use my
week off mainly to start a new tutorial, replacing the
old one that is 'misleading' in some cases. For instance:
PdfPTable will get more focus than Table, the old TIFF
functionality will be replaced by the new approach,etc...

Ghent University uses the library since its creation in 1999.
Furthermore lots of banks and insurance companies use it.
Lots of governments use it, IBM shipped it with its iSeries,
Oracle Belgium uses it in lots of projects,...

Hi,

I am looking for options in creating pdfs in our
corporate web apps. I got to do small bits for now
with iText. However, I want to know when the
production version will be released as I see status as
4/5 on sourceforge. Also, has anybody put this library
already on production?

Thanks.

Paulo is doing the most part of new development. He
releases an itext-paulo version much more often than
Bruno releases an official iText version, but every
official iText version AFAIK rolls up the latest of
Paulo's work.

[iText-questions] Future of iText

2004-09-08 Thread Steve Appling
Could someone (Paulo or Bruno) comment on the expected future path of iText
development. I'm not clear about the intent of having the two different
versions (itext.sourceforge.net and itextpdf.sourceforge.net). Is it the
intent for Paulo's experimental version to become the main version
eventually? Are bugfixes or new features pursued on both branches or is the
one at itext.sourceforge.net frozen? Who has commit rights for each of
these source trees and how are bug fixes typically submitted? I poked
around both of these SourceForge sites and didn't seem much information on
this.

Thanks

I'm investigating this using IBM's ICU4J but it's not an easy topic.
I'm trying to extract just the RTL algorithms and the arabic shaping to make
it lighter. It's not for tomorrow, though.

That's already semi-supported although there's no Paragraph support.

Maybe. The biggest problem with CFF fonts is that they generaly
contain big CJK charsets and iText doesn't subset type1.

No. I believe that OpenType is fully Unicode aware. Special
characters go into the private block Unicode.

iText is essentially user-driven. Do you have any sugestions?

[iText-questions] Future of iText

2002-05-21 Thread Kumata Mitsugu

Hi,

I'm using iText and it works fine.
I'd like to know the future of iText.
Is there any plan that iText is going to support;

  - right to left direction writing?

  - top to bottom direction writing for CJK languages?

  - embeding OpneType with PS glyph? (not TrueType glyph)
(I want to embed special font that TrueType does not have)

  - way of input for special character that UNICODE does not hava
its code but CID or OpenType have one

  - any other multi-ligual feature?

Thank you,
KuMi
