[JAWS-Users] Re: I Hate JFW8 and IE7 with a passion
Marilyn Did you mean that you received a higher number of spam messages after installing IE7? If you are, then that may be why suddenly the same is happening to me but only on the machine with IE7 on it the others with IE6 don't seem so bad, or the whole thing could just be coincidence. I have to say though that like many others I'm not overjoyed about IE7 and am considering removing it and going back to IE6. I uninstalled v. 7 and went back to ie 6 to go along with jaws 7 and then did a system restore for good measure. [JAWS-Users] Downloding New Versions of Software Like IE 7
Hi All, If it means anything, and although it doesn't mean anything for those who have already done it, it might help people who are considering downloading the new IE Update. One rule I have lived by when it comes to software is that I will never download a new version of software right when it comes out. While I agree that most software vendors and makers test drive their software out on beta testers and the like, it's been my experience that these beta testers are, for the most part, working with kick ass systems and working with, if not better, than better than average computer systems. Also, these vendors don't always test out their products with the disabled in mind. Having said that, I usually only test out or download and install new versions of software, like IE 7 and the like after a few updates have been released with it, such as a service pack or a higher version. Anyway, that's my two cents worth, and I hope the subject line was changed as per your instructions, David. I don't recall if I posted this before or not, if so forgive my failing memory. Any how the plan right now is to arrange the programs page to be more like the tips and tricks page IE everything under their own headings ETC. Also I'm going to create a page devoted to scripts. It will be small at first but with luck it will grow just like everything else has up there. This thing started out on 10 MB of web space and it has since out grown the 100 MB space I had bought for it. fortunately a generous list member is letting me use a healthy portion of his extra room available on his server so we're in good shape that way. Also another member is going to teach me a little more HTML code than I know right now, which isn't much to be honest. Any how that's the news for today. You're a good man, I approve completely. Here's my thoughts on IE 7 after almost a week of using it. So far no problems at all. The tool bars are a bit strange I will admit but the core functionality seems to be quite stable. It will take just a bit to become aware of it's newer features but in my opinion it is quite doable. [JAWS-Users] Re: Downloding New Versions of Software Like IE 7
Well, Microsoft has a whole department of people working full time doing nothing but testing their software with all access software. I'm personally acquainted with some of those people and can assure you and others that they do a world-class job. Many of those people are also beta testers for the various accessibility applications, so are in excellent positions to pass information in both directions; that is, to both Microsoft and to the accessibility application vendors. Microsoft has an exceptionally strong incentive to make their software as accessible as possible and that incentive is called U.S. government contracts. They were told in no uncertain terms several years ago that they had to ensure that their programs were accessible or the federal government wouldn't purchase from them and that's when their accessibility group was formed. What other application vendors may or may not do (Symantec, for example, as there have been many complaints about the newest version of Norton Anti Virus) is pretty much up to them. However, it's important to bear in mind that one person's total lack of accessibility is the next person's completely usable application. This was certainly demonstrated in the recent lawsuit against Target with the claim that their web site was not accessible. This at the same time that many blind people I know personally were using it on a regular basis. One might argue that we're rapidly degenerating into a situation where the lowest common denominator of user; and not the _typical_ user; is going to get to define what constitutes accessibility and this would be a disaster, albeit totally politically correct. I think you also may forget that software vendors in general must develop and test their programs with the average user in mind. This has several implications, including not supporting your comment about the quality of systems used by testers and evelopers. They're smart enough to realize, believe it or not, that the typical user isn't running the latest, greatest, and hottest system and they must act accordingly. - Original Message - From: "Victor Gouveia" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Monday, December 11, 2006 7:58 AM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Downloding New Versions of Software Like IE 7 Hi All, If it means anything, and although it doesn't mean anything for those who have already done it, it might help people who are considering downloading the new IE Update. [JAWS-Users] question regarding the programs page
I'm figuring on rearranging things a little bit possibly placing programs under their own heading, so now here's the question. What is your opinion on how things should be arranged? The problem with placing items under their own heading is first of all what to name the heading itself. Secondly several of the programs are one of a kind. I might just try grouping those that would seem to go together without worrying about heading names. It would be better if any of you have an opinion to write me privately. [JAWS-Users] Merge in JAWS 8 not complete
Hi I did a merge from JAWS 7.0 to 8. All my settings didn't get changed, however. One big thing I've noticed is that all my dictionary manager settings didn't move to JAWS 8 in MS Outlook 2003. Maybe not in some other areas as well, but I've only used JAWS 8 a little so far since I can't stand it. Isn't the dictionary manager settings in a JDF file? I've moved all the Microsoft outlook files in my ENU folder manually, the JCF, JDF, and any others, and the dictionary manager settings still didn't get moved, or or just not working. Any thoughts? I have a feeling that a lot of JAWS's buggy behavior will be getting discussed on this list for the coming months from JAWS users. Sigh. [JAWS-Users] Re: Merge in JAWS 8 not complete
As I've said before never, never, never use the JAWS merge utility. It's unreliable at best and the fact that somebody else has used it without bad results; or that you've used it in the past without bad results; is meaningless. Just copy the files manually. Do _not_ copy .jcf, .jss, .jsb, .jkm, or .jsd files. If you have modified scripts, then make the modifications over again from scratch (the merge utility won't touch scripts, anyway). - Original Message - From: "Chris Feist" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Monday, December 11, 2006 6:39 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Merge in JAWS 8 not complete Hi I did a merge from JAWS 7.0 to 8. [JAWS-Users] Multiple JAWS Running
I don't know if anybody else has ever had this happen, but several times in the recent past I've had multiple sessions of JAWS running simultaneously. It sounds really cool, one session always "beats" the other to the sound card so there's this echo effect -- well, at first it's really cool, then it gets -- shall we say -- to be a BIG PAIN IN THE ASS!!! So what I've found is that using the + will only completely shut down one version while the other remains partially deployed. I say "partially deployed" because many of the beloved key strokes we use for navigation are not available. But by using the +J brings up the menu whereupon I use the "E" to ask it to exit JAWS. Whew, RELIEF -- that echoing really gets to be a bitch after a while!!! [JAWS-Users] Yahoo
Hey Gang I got a problem. I got Jaws 7 and windows XP, and I downloaded Yahoo IM beta, but Jaws will not read the message or the contact list. What can I do to get Yahoo to read for me. Can I go back to Yahoo 7, and how can I do that? [JAWS-Users] Re: the scripts page is already up
Hi David, It might benefit others to let them know that the various programs you have on the programs page has scripts available. For example, if you put up FTP Explorer, and you have scripts available on the scripts page, then it might behoove you to put a little comment in that same blurb about there being scripts available for that program. Not sure if I'm being clear as mud or water here, but I hope you get the idea. [JAWS-Users] Re: Merge in JAWS 8 not complete
This is the first time the merge utility hasn't worked for me, but it's definitely not working right. So are you saying to copy only the JDF file manually? Is that the correct file? Or are you saying that I have no choice but to reenter all the changes again I made in the dictionary manager for version 7.0? *shutter* Chris Feist - The one and only! -Original Message- On Behalf Of Walt Smith As I've said before never, never, never use the JAWS merge utility. --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ Visit the JAWS Users List home page at: http://www.jaws-users.com Address for the list archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/jaws-users-list%40googlegroups.com/ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "JAWS Users List" group.
