[JAWS-Users] Re: burning mp3 files to a cd
Hi All, I find that nothing compares to Roxio's Easy Cd Creator 5 to burn to a disk or even rip from a CD for that matter. Granted, I've been using Nero lately, but I find it not to be as Jaws friendly as Roxio. While it does burn a great deal faster than Roxio did, I have to admit, this may have something to do with the fact that I'm using anew computer, as opposed to the different software. Granted, I do not find I have as many problems as I did when I was using Windows Media Player to burn onto CD's, in comparison to having no problems whatsoever with the above mentioned programs. Just my two cents worth, if that. After I posted the message last night, I did some additional searching for information about Media Player, and were able to delete all the items listed. Apparently Media Player keeps a library of what has been played, unless you set it to do otherwise. At least I did resolve that problem. Today I will give the burning process a whirl again. [JAWS-Users] windows vista
Another great post from our research department on parental controls in windows vista. This guy puts some real time in finding this stuff for sure. David Ferrin [EMAIL PROTECTED] Setting up Windows Vista Parental Controls Table of Contents List of 9 items 1. Introduction 2. Welcome to Windows Vista Parental Controls 3. Configuring the Windows Vista Web Filter 4. Configuring time restrictions 5. Configuring Game Restrictions 6. Configuring what programs are allowed or are blocked 7. How to create a custom Web Allow Block List 8. Advanced Information 9. Conclusion list end Introduction With the launch of Windows Vista, Microsoft has introduced a new security feature called Windows Parental Controls. Windows Parental Controls allows a parent to configure, on a per user basis, various restrictions on what that user can do on the computer. These settings range from blocking websites to controlling what games they can play. Having access to these types of controls allows a parent to feel comfortable with their children using a computer and at the same time gives them the flexibility to customize these settings to their specific needs. It is important to note that not all programs are compatible with Windows Parental Controls. In order for Windows Parental Controls to properly monitor and control certain activities on the computer, the application must be compatible with this new service. For the most part, most of the settings can be enforced across all applications, but it is important to test these controls using the applications that your users will be using. This way you know for sure that any restriction you put into place can be enforced. It is also important to note that Windows Parental Controls can only be assigned to a Standard User, which is a user with limited rights on the computer, and cannot be assigned to accounts that are configured as an Administrator. This is so a user cannot remove restrictions placed on them. One of the more powerful features of this new service is that you will be able to view reports of the activity for each user that you have configured Parental Controls. The information you see will be determined by whether or not the user is using applications that are compatible with Windows Parental Controls. Assuming that all the applications are compatible you will be able to monitor the following activity. List of 10 items . Most recent websites blocked. . Attempts to visit sites that have been specifically blocked or allowed. . What files were downloaded. . What file downloads were blocked. . When the user logged on. . What programs they have run. . Emails sent and received . Instant Messages sent and received. . What games were played. . What media such as movies and videos were played. list end In this guide we will go into detail on how to use Windows Parental Controls to restrict a user's activity. If you read through this guide, at the end you will know all that you need to know about Windows Parental Controls and how to use them to provide a safe computing environment for your children. Welcome to Windows Vista Parental Controls In order to access and start using the Vista Parental Controls you need to log onto to your computer using an account that is an administrator. Once logged in you should do the following: List of 3 items 1. Click on the Start ( ) button. 2. In the Start Menu Search Box ( ) type Parental Controls and press enter on your keyboard. 3. A User Account Control prompt will appear asking if you would like to continue. Click on the Continue button to proceed with opening the Parental Controls. list end You will now be at the Vista Parental Controls welcome screen. This screen is the main launching pad for setting the global Parental Controls options as well as configuring Parental Controls for the Standard Users on your computer. From this screen you can create a new Standard User account, configure existing user's Parental Controls settings, configure the global game rating system, and set some other basic global settings. The Main Vista Parental Controls Screen Figure 1. The Main Vista Parental Controls Screen The first option we will explore is to create a new Standard User account that you can assign Parental Controls to. You can do this by clicking on the Create a new user account option which will bring up a screen that enables you to create a new account as shown below. Create a new account Figure 3. Create a new account In this screen you would type the login name for the new user account that you would like to create. We also suggest that you leave the option labeled User must set password at next logon checked so that when the user logs on for the first time they will be prompted for a new password enabling them to keep their password private. When you are ready to create the user, you would click on the Create Account button to finish the creation process. You would then be brought to the Parental Controls page for that particular
[JAWS-Users] Re: Outlook Tips and Tricks
This is directly from the tips and tricks page. I put it under the jaws heading. I hope this is what you are after. David Ferrin Notes for those of you who use Microsoft Outlook. Also I would like to point out that the subject line sectione will work in Outlook Express as well. Here's a little tutorial about how JAWS can exclude speaking list names in both the from field and the subject line using the dictionary manager. This is for all you JAWS users. You know how when you get a message from an email list it says all that extra junk, like which list it's from and all that? Well, when you have emails going to individual folders in Outlook like me, all that information is unnecessary and can get quite annoying. So, I've made a change in my dictionary manager to make my email life a little bit easier. In Outlook, once in a message, shift tab until you get to the "From" field. Use control A to highlight the entire line and do a Control C to copy it to the clipboard. Then open your dictionary manager with Insert D. Tab to the Add button and press enter. When you tab to the "actual word" edit field, make sure that it is clear. I do this by hitting Home, and then Control End, and then delete. Or you can just look it over. It may already have the information you want to paste in the edit field. In that case, you won't need to paste. Otherwise, the next step would be to paste with a Control V. For example, you will be pasting the following: jaws-users@yahoogroups.com; on behalf of; Chris Feist [EMAIL PROTECTED] Now, this is important. What you'll want to do is arrow through that and take out the semicolons with the delete key. Otherwise, I've found that doing this won't work. Next, be sure you delete everything after the word "of", including the email address. Without this step, it will also not work. So all that remains should be this: jaws-users@yahoogroups.com on behalf of Next, Tab down once to the "replace" field. Hit the space bar once so to put a space in that edit field. Then tab down to OK and press enter. Hit Control S to save and then Alt F4 out of the dictionary manager. Your changes should have taken effect. And now what JAWS should read is Chris Feist [EMAIL PROTECTED] Voila! Now JAWS won't announce all that other junk. only who the email is from. Since I know which folder I'm in I don't need to hear that other stuff. And if I really do, I can use the JAWS cursor to do so. One more note. You can also utilize this with the subject line. You know how it says [jaws-users]? If you shift tab to the subject line, and then copy [jaws-users] , you can also follow the above steps to stop JAWS from saying it. It will still be in the subject line, of course, but JAWS won't announce it unless you go to it and use the arrow keys. You have to copy and paste [jaws-users] exactly, no more and no less for it to work. Hope this will be to some use to someone. It has for me. And this can be reversed in the dictionary manager if you don't like the change. - Original Message - From: "Larry Stansifer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Friday, February 02, 2007 5:40 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Re: Outlook Tips and Tricks The problem I am having is, anytime I open new mail Jaws repeats message address and subject information. Mosen think about this one I wonder? If Windows Vista and/or Office 2007 are not accessable with JAWS 71, I think Freedom Scientific should give all of us JAWS 71 owners a free upgrade to version 8. A good public relations thing for them to do. Anyway, thanks for your info on my topic. [JAWS-Users] Re: Outlook Tips and Tricks
Well I would need to know what the error message happens to be before I could offer any help. Follow Rick's instructions and get back to the list. [JAWS-Users] JAWS 71 working with Microsoft Vista/Office 2007 (latest)
Hello! I recently purchased JAWS 71, just prior to the latest upgrade. What I'd like to know is will JAWS 71 work with Vista and the new Office suite? Do we have to download or upgrade JAWS 71 or anything or has FS prepared us for this and made it accessible through JAWS 71. You know, it still upsets me that FS (or one of their resalers) sold me JAWS 71 in November of 2006, when they new JAWS 80 was coming out within the same month. What would J. [JAWS-Users] Re: Burning a Cd with Media Player
Where did the files originally come from? Perhaps some DRM (Digital Rights management) message has kicked in? You'd be allowed only three copies, or such. How are you 'clicking the icon', next to each item in the 'burn list'? - Original Message - From: Shirley Junge To: jaws-users-list@googlegroups.com Sent: Saturday, February 03, 2007 2:36 AM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Burning a Cd with Media Player Hello fellow JAWS users! David suggested that I send this message to the list, so here it is. Today was my first adventure into the world of burning a CD, and I felt confident following the instructions available on the JAWS-Users web site. Hopefully, someone can answer my questions, or at least help me understand what needs to be done. This is what I initially sent to David, along with my thanks for the audio tutorial pertaining to message rules for Outlook Express. *** I also appreciate your instructions about burning CDs with Windows Media Player. I was hesitant to experiment, but decided to give it a whirl. I had no problem burning my first two CDs; however, now I am being given the following message when I reach the point of the prompt to start the burning process: Windows Media Player Close Button It is not possible to burn this list of files because all of the files have errors or are missing burn rights. To learn more about the problems, click the icon next to each file in the burn list. OK button If my memory is correct, there were 502 in the list, which seems to be everything I have played with this program. I tried to determine what the error prompt referred to, or how to clear the items in this Burn list, but no luck with either. That's my problem. Perhaps I should use a different program. Any and all suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! [JAWS-Users] Re: Outlook Tips and Tricks
In order to correctly help with this problem, we need to know what the error message is. When you get the error message, virtualize the window with control+ insert + W, and then select all with control + a, and copy it to the clipboard Next, press escape to close the virtual viewer, and then paste the contents of the clipboard into the body of your message to the list.
