[JAWS-Users] Re: installing Jaws Pro

2007-03-16 Thread Rick Justice

Jason,
If you have already paid for your SMA, for the pro version,
then just just re-authorize your ILM.
No need to un-install Jaws, the program that you downloaded is the same,
it's the authorization that makes the difference.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] installing Jaws Pro

Hi list,
as I mentioned a week or so ago, I was faced with having to upgrade my Jaws
standard, to Jaws Pro, since my work are running Windows XP Pro. I could
keep running my Jaws standard in 40 minute demo, but decided to avoid the
hassle. I wonder why FS don't just sell Jaws Pro, since my Jaws dealer, said
that there is no real difference between the two, apart from Pro running on
more operating systems. I have also not long redone my Jaws standard SMA. I
therefore, had to pay the difference between the standard and pro SMA. I
haven't received my Jaws Pro CDs yet, despite ordering it a week ago. Will I
need to uninstall my Jaws standard, in order to install Jaws pro? I already
have Jaws 8.0 on my desktop. This is the Standard version. I assume that I
will be getting Jaws 8.0 for the Pro version. Will I be able to have both
versions of Jaws 8.0 installed at same time? Will I be able to tell the
difference between the two icons if I do?
Thanks a lot
Jason

Hi Rica,

I'm beginning to suspect its more of a overall system challenge that simply
a JFW one.
This evening, when I was using my eloquence synthiser ad tried to say all
with sappi the voice sounded rather distorted.
I might have picked up a virus somewhere, so I'm going to run the virus scan
and see what turns up in the wash!

Thanks loads and let me know if you have any other suggestions.

Hi Kerryann,
If Jaws comes up talking when the computer boots, then it is running as a
service.
Unless, it is running from a shortcut in the startup folder.
At any rate, if this is when you are experiencing the problem, try
unloading, and then re-loading Jaws, and try setting the voices again.
Doing this will cause Jaws to run as an application.
I have found in some instances, that Jaws will have a problem with sappi
voices when it is running as a service.

exit by typing alt F. followed by x. and you should be rid of the >>> signs.

Note you may want to do the same for the double grater sign. Also you can

I had simular problem before. First I can suggest to do a system restore It
may need some sighted person to do this since jaws might not read correct.
If this doesn't help, try find and delete jawsvid.dll and when you do,
install video intercept manager again. If this doesn't help either,
uninstall jaws and someone should clean the registry of jaws and then
reinstall it. It is complicated I know, but try this before reinstalling
windows. I had to reinstall my OS. You might need sighted person to do those
things. I'm sure after all this, he'll never remove shared components.
Negoslav

Denny wrote

I hope somebody can give me some direction to go with this.
A client of mine installed Jaws version 8 with no problems after
installation.
He decided to uninstall some other versions of Jaws he had on his system and
started with version 5.1.
Not knowing any better, he said yes to removing the shared components.
After he did that, he keeps getting the Jaws video intercept message when he
starts Jaws 8.
It's been with my experience that Jaws does not speak when you get this
message, but his Jaws does not stop talking.
Even when he enters on the execute to install the video intercept, it
restarts his system and comes up speaking, but he still has the video
intercept message. He can close the video message and Jaws still speaks.
If that were all there was to it, that would be OK, but when he uses his
Jaws cursor, Jaws does not read anything at all, it just donks on him.
Plus, in Word and Outlook, he cannot read by line, it just says blank.
Although he can read by word by using the control left or right arrow.
I have tried removing all versions of Jaws and reinstalling Jaws 8 with no
success. I also tried installing an earlier version of Jaws with the same
results.
I uninstalled the video intercept, but that didn't help either. I have
checked his display settings and they are correct.
I uninstalled his video drivers and reinstalled them with no luck.
I feel as though it is the video card itself, but am puzzled as to why
uninstalling the shared components of Jaws would do that to a video card.
So before I try a different video card I was hoping somebody would have a
suggestion as to what to try next.

Thanks,

Denny

☺Not a specific Jaws command that I'm aware of Barbara. But there is an

perhaps a bit too capable so read each step carefully.

FINDING A MISSING DOCUMENT USING WINDOWS FIND COMMAND:

STEP 1. Go to your Start Up option by pressing Windows key and the letter M.

  Press F for Find.

  STEP 3:
As you tab through the steps within this function, your computer should

  STEP 4:
If you remember all or part of the document name, type it in the Edit field

You may have to use Jaws Cursor for this but make sure that the right drive

floppy disk and the C drive which is your primary drive. Make sure that the
correct disk is highlighted.

  STEP 6:
After typing the file or document name and stepping through to verify the
drive, read each option carefully. There is, for example, a check box which
will search through hidden or subfolders as well as the main ones. Another
option will allow you to type in part of the text. Try the file name first.

STEP 7: There is a button marked "Find Now" and that's the one you
choose. If you have a large drive, this may take a few minutes depending on
how fast your CPU is and how large your drive capacity is.

  STEP 8:
The files which are located, will be listed and to access each one, simply
press Enter on it. A separate window will open. Occasionally, Windows might
not recognize the type of software which created the file to begin with.
WARNING! Not all word processor files are accessible with Windows. Most are
but there are some exceptions like older Word Perfect files.

  STEP 9:
If your first attempt is not successful, go back and use some of the more
advanced search capabilities. The best way to learn how to use this tool is to
play with it. You can't hurt anything at all. This function is completely
non-invasive. It simply searches the entire drive for something that resembles
what you are looking for.

  STEP 10:
There are many ways to capture the file once you've found it. The best way
is to just copy the highlighted file name, then paste it into a folder where
you know you'll find it. The alternative would be to open the file, then do a
Highlight All (Control A) command and copy the entire contents onto your clip
board. Then, you can open a new file in whatever word processor you choose and
paste the contents into that file. Once you have done that, save your work
using whatever file type you prefer.

  COMMENTS:
I hope this helps you Barbara. The most wonderful thing about the Find is
its flexibility. There are so many options you can choose.

  Good luck.

I have noticed this to, but in reality, the control is really active,
and JAWS is lying. Next time you encounter that, disregard what JAWS
says and either press the spacebar or ENTER.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Why is Jaws slow to speak?

2007-03-16 Thread Baracco, Andrew W
Lawrence,

You might want to have a sighted person watch the screen when you are
booting up to see what messages appear. Perhaps there is some kind of
utility running a scan. You could try unplugging the external HD and
see if that makes a difference. If there is some kind of hardware
problem, or a problem with Windows itself, there may be an error
message on the screen. As for MSCONFIG, it is a utility that allows you
to choose which programs run at startup. Hit WINDOWS key-R to bring up
the "Run" dialogue. Type msconfig and hit ENTER. Under the "Startup"
tab, you will see a list of programs with checkboxes. You can try
unchecking some of the programs. It is hard to advise as to which ones
to uncheck, because the setup varies with different computers. I
usually leave anything that says Microsoft checked, along with anything
that references your antivirus or internet security software. After
making changes, tab to AND HIT enter ON ok. You will have to restart
the computer for changes to take effect.

Hi Andy,

You have given me a galaxy of issues to ponder here of which I am very
grateful. The problem became noticeable here n the last couple of weeks.
I subscribe to the population that keeps their computer on at all times.
I was running into a problem with a piece of jaws friendly software that
allowed me to down load music and for some strange reason it started to
offer me their upgrade version which is not jaws friendly.
Unfortunately, I learn it was not very friendly after i tried their up
graded version or pro. Although i was able to successfully un install
the pro version and re install the old friendly version, things have not
been the same.
I've scanned my system with AVg and there are no reported viruses. So I
will continue over the week end to explore the suggestions you've
referenced in your post. I am familiar with most of these tasks except
running MSCONFIG Any guidance on that would be helpful. I did add an
exsternal drive back in December.

There are many possible reasons. Is this a new problem? Did
you change anything recently, I. e. install or remove programs? did you
add any new hardware, like a second HD? You might try having fewer
programs load at startup. You can run MSCONFIG and uncheck unnecessary
entried in the startup tab. If you have several programs in the sys
tray, try disabling some. I once had this problem on an old computer,
and doing a disk defrag helped. If none of these things help, it may be
a hardware issue, like a dying power supply or HD. I doubt that JAWS
has anything to do with it.

A repair of JAWS6 can be done by: Start menu, Programs; JAWS6; alt+t for
Tools, then arrow to or hit i for Installation and maintenance. In the
ensuing dialogue, down-arrow to choose the Repair radiobutton, and proceed.
I don't think repairing JAWS will fix the slowness issue, since it would
seem to be more computer-general related; but the above is how you repair

I had simular problem before. First I can suggest to do a system restore It
may need some sighted person to do this since jaws might not read correct.
If this doesn't help, try find and delete jawsvid.dll and when you do,
install video intercept manager again. If this doesn't help either,
uninstall jaws and someone should clean the registry of jaws and then
reinstall it. It is complicated I know, but try this before reinstalling
windows. I had to reinstall my OS. You might need sighted person to do those
things. I'm sure after all this, he'll never remove shared components.

Thanks,

Denny

[JAWS-Users] Register Jaws 8

2007-03-16 Thread Geno69

Mamta,
You noted: "yes I want to authorize it. Can you give me the step by step
procedure?"
Geno: there is one of two ways. First contact the Freedom Scientific Company
directly and they will walk you through it or send you a attachment and just
use it to do so. The other is first removing the Jaws 8 off the machine.
Then, reinstall. You will need a burner/player combo or a burner to put the
Jaws 8 & authorization disc in when it ask for it you will remove the Jaws 8
disc and then put in the disc to install your authorization. This may
require some sight if you run into problems. Though if you follow the steps
that Jaws 8 gives you at the right time. It is pretty straight forward. The
number just needs to make sure there. Anyway, after that is done remove that
disc and put back in the jaws 8 disc and continue.
Just follow all the steps given by the Jaws 8 disc in it's installing
process.
As, noted the easiest is calling Freedom Scientific and they will send a
attachment and they will tell you what to do.
Hope that will help you.
I chose the manual install instead of the automatic install. When installing
Jaws 8.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Jaws Video Intercept

2007-03-16 Thread Negoslav Sabev

I had simular problem before. First I can suggest to do a system restore It
may need some sighted person to do this since jaws might not read correct.
If this doesn't help, try find and delete jawsvid.dll and when you do,
install video intercept manager again. If this doesn't help either,
uninstall jaws and someone should clean the registry of jaws and then
reinstall it. It is complicated I know, but try this before reinstalling
windows. I had to reinstall my OS. You might need sighted person to do those
things. I'm sure after all this, he'll never remove shared components.

Thanks,

Denny
