[JAWS-Users] Re: Managing photos

2007-05-01 Thread David A Ferrin

If Larry wants to discuss managing photos I see no problem with it after
reviewing his original email to the list. He mentioned operating system ETC,
so that's fine. This is sort of a gray area as topics go, but we'll let it
go and see how it progresses.

[JAWS-Users] May first guide lines reminder message

2007-05-01 Thread David A Ferrin

Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list. This list has been created for The
purpose of discussing all aspects of the JAWS for Windows screen reader
Program.

So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about what
software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even better
with
scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could be
requesting
information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as we all know
works
very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a certain task or want
to
learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently.
Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for exact
instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason. It
creates
a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does.
The ideal place I am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that
everybody
no matter how new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have
the
confidence to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck the
list
will be there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say that help
is
quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it last than
first.
So try it yourself first what ever it might happen to be. If you get stuck
then
let the list know what you've done to try and resolve your current dilemma.
Then
I'm sure help will arrive with in short order. Next a post asking if there
is a
software package that does a specific task and works well with JAWS is
perfectly
fine.
The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite and
Patient
with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no bashing of Freedom
Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with them then I suggest
you
take it up with Freedom Scientific directly. Please try to keep subject
lines
relevant and descriptive as possible. Also any news letters except those
that
directly pertain to JAWS should not be posted to the list prior to receiving
moderator approval. Attachments should never be sent to the list at all for
any
reason what so ever.
When contacting any of the list moderators privately please be descriptive
in
the subject line as to the purpose of the message. Many of us simply delete
messages from people we don't know. At the present time there are around 200
subscribers to this list, so we can't possibly know everybody on here.
Also, if you have a question for the list that falls within the guidelines,
then
post it accordingly. Don't contact the management team with questions that
are
more appropriate for the list itself. Your question may or may not receive
an
answer for a number of reasons.
Everybody should familiarize themselves with the content contained in the
footer
message that accompanies every message posted to the list. There you will
find
the group web address along with some other relevant information pertaining
to
contacting the management team ETC. It is very frustrating to read a post
asking
for the group’s web address when the very next line states visit the JAWS
Users
List home page and the next line after that is the URL.
Occasionally there might be some difficulty with your email address and you
may
receive an email from Google Groups asking you to reactivate your account.
Please don’t simply delete this message. Instead open it and follow the
directions to reactivate your account of course after making sure it is from
Google Groups. If you don’t after receiving a number of such messages then
we
will figure that you no longer wish to be a member of the list and remove
your
email address.
The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along with
flirting
or other such inappropriate activities. This is not a high tech swap shop or
anything of that nature at all. This means that goods and or services will
not
be bought or sold using this forum. If you know a given subject is off topic
then don't post it. Simply placing off topic in the subject line does not
make
it all right. Lastly please no jokes, virus warnings, recipes, safety tips,
or
pleas to help dying kids, should ever be forwarded to the list.
My hope is that this list will always be a place where everybody no matter
what
their particular skill level can feel safe to ask any question at all with
in
the guidelines that I have set forth. It is my experience that such rules of
conduct are important to keep good people on the list.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Yahoo

2007-05-01 Thread Mich
hey patty. here's my 2 sense on the yahoo messenger issue. I did upgrade to
yahoo messenger 8.1 using jaws 7.0 and found that it didn't work as good as
yahoo 7.5 since it didn't read your contacts name or messages that you were
sending or receiving so in short stick with yahoo messenger 7.5 from Mich
Verrier.

message going out?
Please let me know, before I update from 7.5 to 8.1?
I'm using Jaws 8, XP home.
Thanks for all the help you can give me.

[JAWS-Users] Vista voice reconition.

2007-05-01 Thread Jimmy Podsim

Hello all.

Has anybody tried the new speech recognition software that comes with
Microsoft Vista? I have been messing around with the software for about
3 hours now. And have found that it is much easier to try and train
than dragon naturally speaking. I am using the speech recognition
software to type this e-mail. I find that in most applications, and
forgiving commands, it seems to work very well. However, I have found
that in programs such as Thunderbird and it seems to not know when to be
in command mode or in edit mode. Does anybody know where a person could
find out more information on the voice recognition software that comes
with vista? I think I would really enjoy using this program if I can
learn to teach it to work with the other software that I have.

Thanks in advance for your help.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Yahoo

2007-05-01 Thread Sylvia Alvaro
Patti,
This is a good question since I am also looking at using Yahoo messenger.
However, I am running jfw 5.10 on this machine. Also, has anyone had any luck
using the Miranda instant messenger program? I posted a question about that a
while ago, but I don't think there were any replies.
Sylvia.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Yahoo

2007-05-01 Thread Sherry Gomes
I upgraded and find it less accessible. it doesn't read the incoming and
outgoing messages. It also doesn't seem to have a sound to tell me when
someone has instant messaged me, so I don't know someone is trying to get my
attention. This is a pain because I communicate with the moderation team of
a very large list I co-moderate through yahoo messenger. Lots of jaws
cursor use in conversations.
