[JAWS-Users] Creating a resume.
Currently I have a client that needs to learn how to write a resume. He uses Jaws as his screen reader, and Microsoft Word as his word processor. Can someone give me some tips about writing a professional resume without using tabs because with Word it is difficult to line up text properly, especially for someone who is totally blind. It was much easier to line up text properly with WordPerfect 5.1, but that's ancient history! Thanks for any assistance! [JAWS-Users] Setting Up Word 2000 to Work Best with JFW
Hi All, Could someone please point me to a source containing instructions for configuring Word 2000 to work best with JAWS on a XP Home computer? Either the JAWS-users page or the Blind-Computing one has some instructions, but they aren't complete. If they are on the FS site, I can't find them. I had a document loaded and was running JAWS 7.1 when JAWS stopped the contents of the lines using down and up arrows. I unloaded JAWS and reloaded it and they worked again, but it was another thing that never happened before IE 7 was installed on the machine. Hopefully, it was a fluke, but I wanted to check that everything is set up properly since it seems all my programs have had to be re-configured so far. I did get an order placed with IE 7 using JFW 7.1, so I'm making progress! Re: [JAWS-Users] Creating a resume.
Dear Pracilla, There are templates of resumes on the microsoft templates page tht you can use to guide your client. Also, I have found that modern styles do not require that much in terms of tabular information. If it is strictly necessary to use tabs though, then jaws wroks extremely well with word tables and you can guide him with this route if you prefer. hth KerryOn Wed, 29 Aug 2007 07:49:41 -0400 Priscilla Nadzeika [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Currently I have a client that needs to learn how to write a resume. Re: [JAWS-Users] security center update
Hi Lenny, You should be able to access this information using the insert+F11 command to bring up the system tray. Usually, these notifications are sitting in your system tray for sighted people to click on. Once you are in the system tray dialog box, and have highlighted the item using your arrow keys, just tab once, twice or three times to press the button correlating to the mouse clicks you want to perform. I've found that tabbing once to the right single click button and pressing the spacebar is usually enough to bring up that particular announcement. Not so for certain other items, but for updates this is normally the case from my own experience. Re: [JAWS-Users] I changed something but I don't know what.
Hi Michael Try this. go into the view menu of word with the alt key plus v. Arrowdown to where it says normal view, and then enter on it. If that doesn't work,do the same procedure and arrow down to the radio button to where it says, either 75 percent, or if that doesn't work, then choose to where it says 100 percent, and then enter on that. Re: [JAWS-Users] winamp 535 version question
Hit ctrl-p to open Preferences, then hit the letter s until Skins is highlighted. Down-arrow to highlight Classic, select it with spacebar or hit enter, and tab through the dialogue (if there is one). Ideally, Classic Skin will be the only skin you would have installed (with no sight, etc.) Next time you install Winamp - you can install Winamp over itself, again - do not select all options, but rather check those things you want (select with spacebar) and leave unchecked (or uncheck with spacebar) those you don't. - Original Message - From: Carla Jo [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Wednesday, August 29, 2007 10:02 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] winamp 535 version question I can't even find anything to change anything - Original Message - From: Chris Hallsworth [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Wednesday, August 29, 2007 3:53 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] winamp 535 version question Oh, do you have modern skin support enabled? Re: [JAWS-Users] Should I uninstall jaws 7?
Hi there, You don't have to, it's up to you. Start JAWS 7 and make sure that Automatically Start JAWS checkbox is checked. Then start JAERS 7.1 and uncheck this same box. This box can be found at Basics dialog under Options Menu. Hi, all. Here's the deal: I installed jaws 7.10 which solved my combo box problem. However, the problem is back. On my start menu, it says jaws 7. and on the programs list, both jaws 7 and jaws 7.10 appear. I think jaws 7 comes on and jaws 7.10 is just sitting there. [JAWS-Users] a question, Acrobat Reader
Hello All, Please pardon this cross posting. I do have a question regarding how to access Acrobat Reader, as I was sent an attachment which cannot be read in html format. At least, I cannot read it in Word. I must confess, that I am very much an amateur with my computer skills and JAWS so any help would be appreciated. I chose Spanish. I truly do want to learn the Spanish language but I had an interesting thought. JAWS does have a Spanish speech engine. Unfortunately I don't know how to make JAWS use the Spanish engine for the Spanish words and the English engine for the English words. I need the English for things like the computer and JAWS menus. Having the Spanish pronunciation on the Spanish words would be most useful though. On a side note I did find that one can use the JAWS dictionary as a Spanish to English translator. Just select the Spanish word and have the JAWS system pronounce the English word instead. However, this is self defeating when one is trying to learn the language. One place it may come in useful is in an a job that required translating documents from one language to the next. I would appreciate any advice on how to get JAWS to recognize Spanish and use the Spanish engine in PDF and Word documents though. I know that it switches over automatically on web pages. [JAWS-Users] WMP 11 with JFW
Hi: Thinking rather foolishly, I decided to try Windows Media Player 11, as it pestered me twice yesterday to get it. I'm still trying to figure out the darn thing. I think I figured out how to shuffle my music and play it at start up, but I was looking around, got into the menu bar, and can't seem to get out. Does anybody have any ideas? Is JAWS perhaps trying to fool me? I'm running JAWS 7.10.500. When I hit escape, it says leaving menus or tool bar, but when I arrow around, I'm still in the menu bar. A word to the wise; if you don't know jack about computers, don't fix it if it isn't broken. [JAWS-Users] JAWS and ATT Natural Voices
Hi, I was looking through the JAWS-Users archives and saw the recent thread on ATT Natural Voices with JAWS; I was wondering if anyone ever figured out best optomize the voices for JAWS? I'm running Vista and have Mike and Crystal installed; both work but the response time is slower then if I use Eloquense. I know that with using a different synth things will be different; but is there anything I can do to speed things up? I really like having the Crystal voice on my computer, and I think it is worth it sometimes to have that good voice even though things will be slower. Re: [JAWS-Users] *****SPAM***** Attention Health Care workers using JAWS and McKesson
I do not have an answer to any of your questions, but I do have an idea for a resource. Maybe there is a list out there some where that is made up of other blind users in the health care field. I know that the NFB has a bunch of lists that you can join. I am guessing that other organizations such as ACB, and AFB also have lists. Good Luck! Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS and ATT Natural Voices
Voices like that are never going to be as responsive as Eloquence no matter what you do. They are just too much to process as the sample is much larger than with something like Eloquence. Eloquence has a sample size of something like 2k per second as ATT and similar voices have a 16 or 22K per second sample rate. If you have a really fast pc then they work pretty good but not as good as eloquence.
