[JAWS-Users] Installing JAWS On A Second Computer

2007-09-06 Thread Donnie Parrett
Hey Guys,

I have a second computer here in my home that I have installed JAWS on. This
computer is not hooked
to the internet. It is just for documents, games and stuff like that. After
installing JAWS 6.0 on
this computer, I keep getting a box pop up that wants me to authorize JAWS on
this computer. I have
no way of doing this through the internet on this computer. So, what do I need

Re: [JAWS-Users] Installing JAWS On A Second Computer

2007-09-06 Thread Chris Hallsworth
Donny, you can either get a friend to activate it for you (well, he/she will
give you an activation code that you need to enter). Alternatively you can
telephone your local JAWS dealer, give them your unlock code and
authorization number, then they'll either give you the code over the phone
or send you a CD in the mail that will activate it for you, I'm not sure.
Hope that helps.

You can authorize Jaws on more than one machine, useing a single license.

well you would have to make sure that jaws is authorized to run on that
second computer. you can't install your copy of jaws on to a second
computer unless you perchaased another licence.
correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe once you perchase jaws, you only
get one activation for a single computer unless you buy another licence.

[JAWS-Users] AVG anti spyware

2007-09-06 Thread David Ferrin
OK I admit that it is no where near as accessible as the anti virus program is
I have managed some minor success to the point where it is usable. With my
wife's help I labeled the tool bar and set JAWS to only speak labeled graphics.
Now it does require much moving around with the mouse cursor it is usable this
way very well in my opinion. I have no experience with transferring graphic
files from person to person, but if anybody would like to try just let me know
and we'll work something out, or I could even post them up on the web site.

 Hi To All;
While reading in word, almost every line I hear something like one era or
 maybe two eras.
This happens only while I'm reading the document.
It happens if I'm using the say all or if I'm using just the arrows.
I hope there's something that I can turn off.

hmm sounds like a spyware to me. this is the reason why I am not a fan
of AOL. I would remove anything that has to do with AOL from the
machine, which should improve system performance, and annoying windows.

Chris Hallsworth wrote:
OK. When I sign on to AOL, I see a web page welcoming me to AOL, fine. A few

that, it closes fine. There are instances, however, where the AOL Spy Zapper
causes AOL to stop responding normally, so I have to terminate AOL, and this
is why I'd like to know how to turn the spy zapper off. Please note,
however, that the AOL Spy Zapper only appears if AOL is in focus. If I
minimize it, it doesn't appear. Hope that helps.

Sounds like in verbosity JAWS is set to count errors in
something--grammar and spelling, perhaps. With jawskey-v tgo to
verbosity, then to spelling and grammar, and space bar to see all the
choices. My guess is that it's set to 'on plus count'.

You can't. It's a window that pops up when you connect to the AOL service,
and not a separate programme. Thanks for the help though, greatly
 appreciated.

have you tryed killing it through task namager?
you can try preventing it from starting up with windows by going to
msconfig, and to the start up tab, and unchecking it. also, you can try
deleting it's entry in the start up folder, however, if it is giving you
this much problems, you should just try removing it all together.

For Dial-up, I would recommend AOL. Not sure about their tactics though,

they seem to block some sites if you try to access them with a third

Subject: [JAWS-Users] AOL Email Verses Windows Mail

 Hello everyone,

I just discovered that AOL's latest 9.0VR software is accessible with
 JAWS
8.0.2173; AOL's website indicates that it is optomized for this version
 of
JAWS and from what I can tell that claim is spot on. I haven't done
 much
playing around though, and I'm trying to decide whether to set up an
 AOL
account and use the AOL program or stick with Windows Mail?

 Any thoughts?

 Thanks,

[JAWS-Users] Outlook Web based

2007-09-06 Thread Keith Yates

Hi all,

My school is using Outlook Webbased for our student e-mail accounts. I am
using JAWS 6.2 and am having no luck accessing my e-mail. Our disability
services office says it is accessible with JAWS 8, but I am not to sure I
believe them as they do not appear to know much about screen readers.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone out there is using this and if so if it is
accessible with JAWS 8?

Does anyone have any tips or tricks that makes using it easier?

Thanks,
Keith

Re: [JAWS-Users] *****SPAM***** Re: switching columns in word

2007-09-06 Thread Annette Carr
You can use the Shift+Tab and the Tab to move from left to right across the
cells in a row, and then it will move down to the first cell in the next
row. As you are doing this, as you land in the next cell, everything in
that cell is selected and if you accidentally press a key, you will replace
everything in that cell with the character you accidentally pressed. If
this happens, immediately do a Control+z to undo what you did.

A safer way and sometimes more efficient way to navigate a table is to use
Control+Alt+ any of the 4 arrow keys. All this does is move your cursor
into the next cell in the direction of the arrow key you pressed, and JAWS
will read the contents of the cell. The down side is that when you get to
the end of a row, you have to navigate back to the beginning of the next row
if that is what you want to read.

Additional table commands include Control+Alt+ home or end or page up or
page down. There are others, but these are the ones that I use most often.

Let me know if you need additional assistance.

Annette

Laura,

Thanks for the suggestion. I had actually thought of that and it sounds
like the best solution.
I don't want to have to upgrade my JAWS right now. maybe when I have a
little more $$$.

My school also uses Outlook Web based for our email. I set mine up so that
I
am receiving it through Window mail. I am using vista and the latest
version of jaws. Even though outlook web based mail is more accessible
with the latest jaws, I still find it much easier to use windows mail. So
if
you have Xp you could use Outlook express to access your email.

Outlook Web Based is not Microsoft Outlook. It is a whole different kind of
beast from what I can tell. I just never thought something web based
would be so difficult to use with JAWS. I have no problem using Yahoo mail,
hotmail or Gmail and thought it would be similar but that is not what I am
experiencing.

Well for example the icon is called music, just move your cursor around

Focus on it and hit the delete key to send it to the recycle bin, or shift
delete to by pass the recycle bin.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS and Braille

2007-09-06 Thread Flor Lynch
My experience does not extend to using Bluetooth thus, so others may have
more relevant information. Unless you're using a password control, what is
your reason for having JAWS start as a service? Would things not work
better, i.e., have both braille/Bluetooth and speech working, with JAWS
starting after Windows start-up instead?

Think I have discovered that I won't be able to have both speech and braille
at startup, as:
1. JAWS is running as a service,
2. The bluetooth software starts up after Windows starts, as it's in the
startup group.
So does this sound right?
Thanks in advance for the help, greatly appreciated. P.S. I use the Widcomm
Bluetooth Software provided by Broadcom.

Have you set JAWS to start up in the normal way, or have you added it as a
service? I have the BN mPower connected serially, and it starts up with
JAWS thus normally. If you uncheck the load drivers at start-up error, do
you still get nothing until you re-load JAWS? (The braille display
shouldn't take more than a few seconds to come into Sync with the speech,
 if
it's going to do so.) How long have you waited for braille to come on,
 when
you've tried with the unchecked driver load error? (Perhaps the Bluetooth
will take longer to kick in, anyway.)

 Hi all,
Is there a way to have JAWS output information to a Braille display at
startup? I have a BrailleNote mPower and I'm finding that I have to reload
JAWS just to get it to output information in Braille as it says it
 couldn't
load the Braille driver even though I have it set up correctly. I'm using
JAWS 8 and my connection method is bluetooth. Thanks in advance for the
 help.

Hi all,

My school is using Outlook Webbased for our student e-mail accounts.
I am using JAWS 6.2 and am having no luck accessing my e-mail. Our
disability services office says it is accessible with JAWS 8, but I am
not to sure I believe them as they do not appear to know much about
screen readers.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone out there is using this and if so if
it is accessible with JAWS 8?

Does anyone have any tips or tricks that makes using it easier?

Thanks,
Keith

Re: [JAWS-Users] AVG anti spyware

2007-09-06 Thread Ricque
You should be able to just zip it up, for easy transport.
The person recieving the file should be able to unzip it into their Jaws user
folder, and use it.
A reload of Jaws may be necessary for the changes to take affect.

OK I admit that it is no where near as accessible as the anti virus program is
I have managed some
minor success to the point where it is usable. With my wife's help I labeled
the tool bar and set
JAWS to only speak labeled graphics. Now it does require much moving around
with the mouse cursor it
is usable this way very well in my opinion. I have no experience with
transferring graphic files
from person to person, but if anybody would like to try just let me know and
we'll work something
out, or I could even post them up on the web site.
