I have not heard of this program before. If it is accessible like you say
then I'll go and track it down for posting up on the web site. Can you give
me any further details on it?

Sorry David
I had not noticed it on the programs page. It proves what a comprehensive
list of resources you have up there. A treasure trove really and saves a lot
of time trying to see if programs work,

Still I suppose the presence of this program has been advertised to the
list.

On another point I downloaded the excellent real alternative from the jaws
user programs page. This prompted me to look for QuickTime alternative which
also appears to be a good utility from the same source but is not I think on
the page. Have you had a look at QuickTime alternative? It seems much less
invasive than the actual QuickTime. The only problem I found was that you
need to type in manually your destination folder during setup.

I think some encyclopaedias need QuickTime to play media files.

It also can be found on the group web site for over a year now. You are
correct in that it is very small and behaves well just sitting in the system
trey. I guess I got tired of editing all of my script files to employ the
auto maximize function, although I still use it for programs that JAWS does
not offer support out of the box so to speak.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Maximising Windows automatically

Dear List

I routinely try to use Jaws with maximised windows as I find it works better
that way. An annoying feature of notepad and IE has been that guaranteeing
that they open in a maximised window can prove difficult.

I can open blank documents in notepad in a maximised window by editing the
shortcut properties but until now I could not force notepad to open
maximised when opening a text file in explorer.

I am just trying a free utility called autosizer which so far had worked
brilliantly and I have happily been reading text files with notepad opening
automatically in a maximised window when I click on the filename. It
apparently works with Outlook Express as well.

I got it from

http://www.southbaypc.com/AutoSizer/

When run it goes into the system tray so I suppose it should be put in your
startup folder if you want to use it all the time. Seems fairly small and
unobtrusive.

I have only been using it today but it has been very good so far. NOD32
reckons its ok.

Regards

David

I helped a guy yesterday put jaws in his system trey so as to get it out of the

is it not showing in the list, and how would I get it to appear?

I helped a guy yesterday put jaws in his system trey so as to get it out of
the alt tab order. Now that went perfectly fine. The
thing is when he brings up his system trey with insert+F11 jaws isn't listed
in there. Now it obviously must be in there, of that
I have no doubt so far as that goes. The question is why is it not showing
in the list, and how would I get it to appear?

2007-10-11 Thread Eric Damery
Regarding this issue, I wanted to let you know that there is a FAQ on
this in the support pages of Freedom Scientific as well. Doing a search
for "System Tray" finds this one at the top.
http://www.freedomscientific.com/fs_support/BulletinView.cfm?QC=829

I mention this just to continue to remind people that the support pages
contain quite a bit of useful information. If you have not experimented
with it yet, please give the search on the support pages a try.

I must admit not thinking of that on this occasion, and believe it or not
the page is in my book marks. Thanks Eric for the reminder.

Eric Damery

Hello. Have him go to the task bar and start menu properties and uncheck
hide inactive icons. Have him hit apply and then OK.

I helped a guy yesterday put jaws in his system trey so as to get it out
of
the alt tab order. Now that went perfectly fine. The
thing is when he brings up his system trey with insert+F11 jaws isn't
listed
in there. Now it obviously must be in there, of that
I have no doubt so far as that goes. The question is why is it not
showing
in the list, and how would I get it to appear?

Re: [JAWS-Users] adobe 8.1

2007-10-11 Thread Francis E. Khan
Now that I have downloaded Adobe Reader 8.1 and have converted a PDF tutorial
so that it can be read on the computer, what other piece of software must I
acquire to convert the file to, let's say, Word 2003?

By the way, 8.1 works very fast as I was able to convert my Word Perfect 12 PDF
tutorial consisting of about 300-odd pages within minutes.

when there are times when I have no internet access, I can go ahead and
install it without going on to the web first, know what I mean? Thanks in

Can I ask, is it one of these programmes that can only be installed using
some kind of download server, or is it the full package? I'd like to update
to 8.1, but I'd also like to be able to burn the update onto a CD so that
when there are times when I have no internet access, I can go ahead and
install it without going on to the web first, know what I mean? Thanks in

Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook XP, Not outlook Express

2007-10-11 Thread Griffiths, Steve
Larry,

I've had something similar if I have formatted the columns so that the
importance column is set to text; the word Normal tries to appear in the
column that had previously contained the importance icon, but the column
isn't very wide so you end up with N... or some other shortened version.

Have you either changed to a different view or formatted the columns in
your currently view recently?

Steve

[JAWS-Users] Jaws 9.0.379 Update don't work?

2007-10-11 Thread Demetry
Hello Friends,

before some days ago, I read the mail here from Eric Damery, where I can get
the Private Updates for Jaws 9.0. I typed the Special Update Code in the
Special Update Code window, and than I clicked in the context menu of Jaws
Help -> Check for Updates...
In this window it will be displayed the new available Updates.
But after clicking on the checkbox and than go to the install button I get
the following error message:

The following updates could not be downloaded:
   - JAWS 9.0.379 Update

Hmmm... Why that? It will don't displayed also the size of the update file.
And, Why will be displayed in the update window the available updates are
not automatically checked?

I am using Jaws 9.0.369 under Windows Vista Home Premium with all updates.

Thanks.

2007-10-11 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
Because that link for the private beta was sent in error to the list.
He sent a follow up message saying that there would be a further public
beta release once done with the private beta testing cycle.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 9.0.379 Update don't work?

2007-10-11 Thread Eric Damery
For some reason, certain people got build 9.0.369 today. We are still
trying to figure out why this update got exposed to the Public in the
auto update. For those that got it, it sounds like build 379 is showing
but not able to download.

Not certain what went wrong but please ask others to wait for the next
announced update coming next week. The public should be running 9.0.353.
That was the last intended build that has cleared Testing for the public
to receive.
Regards,
Eric Damery

That's because it was meant for FS beta testers in house only and Eric made
a boo boo and released the info to the list. They have since removed the
info and thus you can't access it.
