2007-10-24 Thread David A Ferrin
The main page is setup with standard links, but the sub pages such as
scripts ETC are designed to open up in a new window. The reason for that is
so when you close out the page it will return you to exactly where you were
in the first place. Please indicate a specific link so as to make it
possible to accurately diagnose your problem.

Hold down the shift key when you hit enter on that last link to by pass your
pop up blocker. I figured this would come up sooner or later, you're the
first. I'm surprised it didn't come up before now as it's been at least a
month or more since I made the change over.

[JAWS-Users] how do I know that my computer's slowness is a memory issue or something else

2007-10-24 Thread Bill K.
Hi Everyone,
I was recently talking to one of my blind friends who also uses jaws, and
has some knowledge where computers are concerned. He had me access my
computer's hardware information with windows pause, and he tells me that I
don't have enough memory, how might I know that this is true for myself for
sure?
also, when you access this information, does that let you know the complete
amount of memory on the computer, or just what's left with all the programs
you're using?
thanks,
Bill K

[JAWS-Users] Laptop Keystrokes in Outlook-Office 2007

2007-10-24 Thread Christopher Bell
Hi All,

I am using the Jaws 9.0 Beta and Office 2007 on a laptop. According to the
Jaws help menu for laptop keystrokes, the caps-lock key plus F9 should
simulate a right click of the mouse. However, I am getting the message that
there are no frames. What am I doing wrong? How do I simulate left and
right mouse clicks I Jaws 9.0 for a laptop? Thanks. Chris

[JAWS-Users] speaking the contents of an item in the system tray when it changes

2007-10-24 Thread Tony Hernandez
Hi.

I'm attempting to get JAWS to speak the contents of a specific system tray item
when it changes, regardless of whether or not the system tray is visible on the
screen. Does anyone know what scripting functions work to find out the owner
of the system tray item, i.e., what program the system tray item belongs to?
If anyone has any experience with this, please help, and I would be very
grateful.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Laptop Keystrokes in Outlook-Office 2007

2007-10-24 Thread Christopher Bell
Chris All,

OOPS! It is my mistake, not the documentation. For some reason I heard it
as F9 rather than simply 9. Sorry.

But...I thought right click plus 9 on an open e-mail message in the From:
box would add the sender's name and e-mail address to my contact list but
that is not one of the menu choices. This is the task I am trying to figure
out how to perform. Thanks. Chris

Re: [JAWS-Users] unable to select a link on Jaws home page

2007-10-24 Thread David A Ferrin
Because I've set those links to open in a new window for the following
reason. Now when you close said window you are returned to the same spot on
the main index that you were on previously. Before the make over so to speak
every time you would return to the main index page such as programs for
example it would kick you back to the top. This was getting tiring for me
every time I would be testing out new links and so forth.

Good to hear that it did. It has something to do with your pop up
blocker
settings, but now you know what the by pass key is so there shouldn't be
  any
further trouble. It will also work on any other web sites as well.

Hi, Steve. Word pad is just a basic word processer. You don't use that for
adding contacts to your address book. That's done in either outlook or
outlook express.

You should be able to do a control shift b.
If you are using Office 2007, tab to the list that has, more columns and
names only. Arrow down to names only and then tab to your address list.

Are you talking about your address book in Outlook or in Outlook Express?
Word Pad has nothing to do with your question.

You should be able to do a control shift b.
If you are using Office 2007, tab to the list that has, more columns and
names only. Arrow down to names only and then tab to your address list.

Re: [JAWS-Users] What is the purpose/function of the system tray?

2007-10-24 Thread Tony Hernandez
Hi Chris.

The system tray is an area of windows that shows icons for running programs
that don't have open windows. This way, if it's a program you might need to
access, such as the volume control, you can have access to it without a
window getting in your way and taking more memory. Very handy.

Re: [JAWS-Users] unable to select a link on Jaws home page

2007-10-24 Thread Victor Gouveia
Hi David,

You Said:

every time you would return to the main index page such as programs for
example it would kick you back to the top. This was getting tiring for me

***
Why did that happen?

When you click a link that takes you to another page, pressing the back
keystroke will take you back to the link you clicked, or rather, it should
take you back there.

Whenever I'm surfing a particular site, and need to explore, in other words
go through every page to see where the information is that I need, if the
page I land on doesn't happen to be the page I'm looking for, I press the
alt+left arrow keystroke, and that takes me back to the link I initially
clicked on.

Is your computer configured differently?

It's actually kind of weird.

This same keystroke is supposed to do the same thing for explorer windows
roaming through your files. For example, if you're going through a list of
files in your my documents folder, which may contain 89 folders, you enter
on the 48th folder to see what's in it, you should be able to press the key
combination of alt+left arrow, and it will take you back to the 48th folder
you entered on.

At least, that's what's supposed to happen, but I find on my laptop, it
doesn't, but it does on my desktop, or any other desktop computer I've ever
worked with.

Personally, I think there's a setting I need to tweak, but I just haven't
found it yet.

In any case, were you using the keystroke to go through your WebPages, or
were you using the backspace key?

Good to hear that it did. It has something to do with your pop up

settings, but now you know what the by pass key is so there shouldn't
  be
  any
