 Hi Folks,

Well Jaws8 has fallen back into its old habit of repeating text 3, 4, 5 and
some times even more times. It seems to occur most frequently during the
e-mail download in outlook XP. I realize this has been a bug from the first
JFW release, I also know that there a couple of changes one can make in the
Configuration manager that help slightly. If any of you good folk happen
to recall what those changes are please let me know.

[JAWS-Users] SpamFighter

2008-01-05 Thread Patti
Hey Gang,
I downloaded SpamFighter, and it is working very well.
My question is how do I get to the SpamFighter menu bar? I tried alt to get to
my menu and then ctrl tab to get to the other menu, but no luck. I need to
unblock an email from that menu bar.
I'm running windows XP home, OE 5-6, Jaws 8.
 Can some one help me?
Thanks Patti

Re: [JAWS-Users] Happy Birthday David ferrin

2008-01-05 Thread David Ferrin
Thanks to everybody for the good wishes this day. In case anybody is
interested it's number 49 as a matter of fact. We all owe the creation of
this list ETC to my wife for first introducing me to JAWS back in 1996. She
didn't want me to be left behind in the world of technology and that's when
she made the discovery of the 30 day trial program that the then Henter
Joyce company offered for $39.95. Before meeting her I bought a screen
reader for $995 that was absolutely worthless and it made me very
discouraged regarding Windows and computers in general. There was no way in
the world I was going to pay for another such program without at least first
trying it out to see if it worked or not. The rest as they say is history,
between self teaching and learning from others who are much smarter than I
am I've learned what I know today. Also I must credit this list for forcing
me to learn a lot of new things like writing my own HTML code ETC. So to
celebrate I'm taking the day off, it's out to lunch and then just goofing
off this afternoon. Have a great day to all and thank you again.

interested it's number 49 as a matter of fact. We all owe the creation of
this list ETC to my wife for first introducing me to JAWS back in 1996.
 She
didn't want me to be left behind in the world of technology and that's
 when
she made the discovery of the 30 day trial program that the then Henter
Joyce company offered for $39.95. Before meeting her I bought a screen
reader for $995 that was absolutely worthless and it made me very
discouraged regarding Windows and computers in general. There was no way
 in
the world I was going to pay for another such program without at least
 first
trying it out to see if it worked or not. The rest as they say is history,
between self teaching and learning from others who are much smarter than I
am I've learned what I know today. Also I must credit this list for
 forcing
me to learn a lot of new things like writing my own HTML code ETC. So to
celebrate I'm taking the day off, it's out to lunch and then just goofing
off this afternoon. Have a great day to all and thank you again.

Re: [JAWS-Users] possible updates to the web site

2008-01-05 Thread Sharon
I just downloaded that program about hot keys hot key creator or something
like that but am having a hard time using pieces of it. I'll get correct
info later; on way to work.
More info on that would be helpful. Also more on fast file renamer but it
works pretty well as long as I keep the number of files to rename small.

I'm curious as to what sort of items might be of interest to some of you out
there in the area of audio tutorials, programs, ETC. I'm considering doing
one on repairing a damaged DBX file in Outlook Express as this is fresh in
my mind, and It's been quite a while that I have done such a thing.

2008-01-05 Thread Mike Barbara Brunner

Sorry all about not including program info. I am inquiring about the use of
any Tool Bar in any program, specifically Word, Internett, Word Web, and
just programs I might download off the jaws-users and blind-computing
websites. I read quite a bit about adding scripts, pasting UURL's, doing
things with graphics, and things like that on the Jaws-Users and
Blind-Computing Lists and don't have a clue as what is going on. I am
running Windows XP 2002 Home and JAWS 9.0.515. I really can't explain my
stupidity in this area any better because I don't know enough to make myself
sound any dumber.

Hi David. May your birthday be a very happy one, and I too thank you for

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Happy Birthday David ferrin

When watching a video in Winamp, I have noticed that my wife can do
something with the mouse to make
the video into full screen size. Is there any way that I can do that while

Thanks to everybody for the good wishes this day. In case anybody is
interested it's number 49 as a matter of fact. We all owe the creation
of this list ETC to my wife for first introducing me to JAWS back in
 1996.
 She
didn't want me to be left behind in the world of technology and that's
when she made the discovery of the 30 day trial program that the then
Henter Joyce company offered for $39.95. Before meeting her I bought a
screen reader for $995 that was absolutely worthless and it made me
very discouraged regarding Windows and computers in general. There was
no way in the world I was going to pay for another such program
without at least first trying it out to see if it worked or not. The
rest as they say is history, between self teaching and learning from
others who are much smarter than I am I've learned what I know today.
Also I must credit this list for forcing me to learn a lot of new
things like writing my own HTML code ETC. So to celebrate I'm taking
the day off, it's out to lunch and then just goofing off this
afternoon. Have a great day to all and thank you again.

That program is a specialty, but more over a friend of mine who goes by
start button is the expert in that area. Never the less I do appreciate
 the
quick reply. He normally does around a 8 or 10 part class on gold wave at
least once a year it seems. Like I said though if it is in my purview and
ability I will consider a tutorial on what might come across the list

I'm curious as to what sort of items might be of interest to some of you
out there in the area of audio tutorials, programs, ETC. I'm considering
doing one on repairing a damaged DBX file in Outlook Express as this is
fresh in my mind, and It's been quite a while that I have done such a

 1996.
 She
didn't want me to be left behind in the world of technology and that's
when she made the discovery of the 30 day trial program that the then
Henter Joyce company offered for $39.95.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Information on using Tool Bar

2008-01-05 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Mike,

It sounds like you are asking for general information that explains what
toolbars are and how to access them using JAWS.

I will use Microsoft Word for examples, but the information below does not
apply to Microsoft Word 2007.

In addition to having a menu bar, many programs also have one or more
toolbars that are generally found near the top of the program's window. The
toolbars give people the ability to use a mouse to click on a function that
they want to do instead of having to search through levels of menus or
dialog boxes to perform the functions. The toolbars are usually positioned
horizontally from left to right and quite often are positioned just under
the menu bar. There are programs that have toolbars positioned vertically.
A toolbar can have several small graphical pictures and might or might not
be labeled with text labels. An example of a toolbar is the standard
toolbar in Microsoft Word. A few of the choices on the standard toolbar are
New blank document, Open, save, print, mail recipient, spell checking
among others. Mouse users can move the mouse across the toolbar and click
on the choice for the function they want performed.

There are many toolbars included in some programs. Quite often toolbars can
be made active by going under a view menu with Alt-V, using the up or down
arrow to find the toolbar choice, using right arrow to move into the toolbar
submenu and then using up or down arrows to find the toolbar you want. In
Microsoft Word there will be several toolbars. If you want to work with
forms then press enter on the forms toolbar choice. If you want to work
with drawing tools then press enter on that choice. The standard and
formatting toolbars in Microsoft Word should be left checked. When using up
or down arrows through the toolbars submenu listen for whether an item is
checked or not. If it is checked it is already active and in use. Simply
press enter on a choice to reverse the status, in other words if it says
checked and you press enter you will remove the toolbar from the screen and
visa versa.

In Microsoft Word to access a toolbar that is active first press Alt or Alt
with an underlined letter on the menu bar to move to the menus. After
moving to the menu bar use the keystroke CTRL+tab to cycle between available
toolbars and the menu bar. You will learn which choices are on what
toolbars and what to listen for to know it is the toolbar you want. For
example, you listen for New blank document to know you are on the standard
toolbar.

Once on the toolbar you want you can use right and left arrows to move
across the toolbar. Pressing enter on a choice performs the function. For
example, if you right arrow across the standard toolbar to the E-mail
recipient button and press enter, the headers to fill in for your E-mail
message will appear.

In HTML formatted E-mail, help systems, Internet browsers like Internet
Explorer, etc., you access an active toolbar by using Insert-F8, (the insert
key on the number pad when the numlock key is off with the function key 8).
When the toolbar appears then you can up and down arrow to choices.

It is important to remember that most things a person uses the toolbars for
can be accomplished by using menus or with hotkeys. This isn't always true
though.

This has been a quick general overview or synopsis of what a toolbar is
and how to access toolbars using JAWS. Let me know if I can clarify any of
the points I made.

Hi Donny,

Try the F11 key.

That is the keystroke most commonly associated with making an application's
video full screen.

It's the same in Windows Media Player and QuickTime.

To revert the application back to normal viewing, you would press the F11
key again.

They even said that when you were a kid the dead sea wasn't even sick!

 1996.
 She
didn't want me to be left behind in the world of technology and that's
when she made the discovery of the 30 day trial program that the then
Henter Joyce company offered for $39.95.
So to celebrate I'm taking

afternoon. Have a great day to all and thank you again.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and computer games

2008-01-05 Thread Victor Gouveia
There is a game called Word Target, released by BG Games.

It's made for both blind individuals and low-vision.

The game uses the Windows SAPI TTS, and you play it by taking the nine
letter word given, and creating as many words as you can using those nine
letters, but containing the letter in the center of the grid.

It's quite addictive and free.

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Information on using Tool Bar

One point that I would like to add is that some tool bars are floating tool
bars. This means that they will appear some place on the screen other then
under the menu bar or the standard tool bar, and these floating toolbars
move. You can still navigate to them as described in Brian's excellent
post. Sometimes these floating tool bars can cause JAWS to have problems
reading the contents of your screen.

Annette

More info on that would be helpful. Also more on fast file renamer but it
works pretty well as long as I keep the number of files to rename small.

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Information on using Tool Bar

I'm running windows XP home, OE 5-6, Jaws 8.
 Can some one help me?

Thanks to everybody for the good wishes this day. In case anybody is
interested it's number 49 as a matter of fact. We all owe the creation of
this list ETC to my wife for first introducing me to JAWS back in 1996.
 She
didn't want me to be left behind in the world of technology and that's
 when
she made the discovery of the 30 day trial program that the then Henter
Joyce company offered for $39.95. Before meeting her I bought a screen
reader for $995 that was absolutely worthless and it made me very
discouraged regarding Windows and computers in general. There was no way
 in
the world I was going to pay for another such program without at least
 first
trying it out to see if it worked or not. The rest as they say is
 history,
between self teaching and learning from others who are much smarter than
 I
am I've learned what I know today. Also I must credit this list for
 forcing
me to learn a lot of new things like writing my own HTML code ETC. So to
celebrate I'm taking the day off, it's out to lunch and then just goofing
off this afternoon. Have a great day to all and thank you again.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Information on using Tool Bar

2008-01-05 Thread Brian Lee
In Internet Explorer the insert+F8 only brings up the IE toolbar. The
insert-F8 keystroke is generally mapped to the function for showing the
active application's toolbar. Sometimes by moving to the top of a web page
using CTRL+home keys, routing JAWS to virtual PC, doing a page up and then
moving down a line at a time with the down arrow key will find other
toolbars. If you do find your toolbar then you can move a word at a time
across it using CTRL+right arrow until you find the tool you want to click.
Use a left mouse click emulation by using the insert+slash keys on the
numpad when numlock is off. After clicking on the choice remember to put
the virtual PC cursor on again.

Some one else might have a better way to access other toolbars in Internet
Explorer. The above sometimes works for me and sometimes doesn't work.

To perform the above functions if you have a laptop using the laptop
keyboard configuration, use the caps lock key instead of the insert. A left
mouse click can be done with caps lock and the number 8. Moving a word at a
time when JAWS cursor is active can be done with caps lock and L. Routing
JAWS to PC or virtual cursors is done with caps lock+left bracket keys.
Activating PC or virtual cursors is done with caps lock semicolon.

 Hey Gang,
I downloaded SpamFighter, and it is working very well.
My question is how do I get to the SpamFighter menu bar? I tried alt to
get to my menu and then ctrl tab to get to the other menu,
but no luck. I need to unblock an email from that menu bar.
I'm running windows XP home, OE 5-6, Jaws 8.
 Can some one help me?
 Thanks Patti

There is an excellent podcast presentation about using RSS feeds in Windows

Hope this helps.

 Hello David,
How about an audio tutorial about how to set up, and use RSS feeds? I
 don't
really know much about them, but I would like to learn. How are they
different from pod cast's? Just a suggestion.
 Take care,

That program is a specialty, but more over a friend of mine who goes by

 the
quick reply. He normally does around a 8 or 10 part class on gold wave at
least once a year it seems. Like I said though if it is in my purview and
ability I will consider a tutorial on what might come across the list

Thank you so much. This works like a charm. I have a little bit of vision,
but when I would try to
see a Winamp video, I couldn't tell anything about it. With this key function
you told me about, it
makes the video the full size of the screen. Again, thanks for letting me know

Hi friend, Press JAWSKey+Shift+W to make sure that you are in winamp
video window,
if so, press alt+Enter to toggle, note;: JAWS does not provide the
feedback on this feature,
means: one press of alt+enter turns the full screen on, and the other
press turns it off again.
Hope this was helpful.
thank you.
Keep asking,
