Re: [JAWS-Users] Winamp as default player

2008-01-23 Thread Flor Lynch
I think at one time it was automatically enabled or at least always
available when you had winamp Agent installed. However, what I do now when
installing Winamp is uncheck everything except the 'slower connections,
accessibility' or classic set-up. It wouldn't matter as much now, but in
the old days things Like Realplayer and/or Winamp Agent being in the System
Tray took up some RAM resources. In general, the less cluttered the screen
the better - for screen-readers, and many other users. Winamp packs a lot
into a small space! I use it, occasionally at the moment.

Yes, the Winamp browser really messes with a screenreader, but I didn't know
it had anything to do with the Winamp Agent. There is a plugin available
for disabling the browser starting with version 5.1.

Victor,
I have been using the Winamp Agent since version 2.1 and have not had any
problems with it interfering with my screen reader. Several years ago
everytime I would use Real Player, it would take over as the default player.
That is when I started using the Winamp Agent and it has worked for me ever
since.
I don't know how it would interfere with a screenreader, but I guess
anything is possible.

Thanks!

Hi Denny,

I'm a bit confused by your post.

Everything I've read about installing the Winamp Agent says to do otherwise
and not install it.

It apparently does not work well with screen readers, and has even been
suggested on Main Menu that the agent be excluded from being installed on
all machines running assistive technology.

Has this changed since the release of 5.35?

I have not updated to 5.51 as I still think there are some bugs that need to
be ironed out in that issue, but I still have not seen anything to
contradict my earlier comments.

Another work around for the browser is to not install the Winamp Agent upon
installation of Winamp, but then to activate it after installation.
I have just never had any problems using the Winamp Agent and Jaws.

Victor,

that sort of thing (the playing of files by WMP instead of Winamp, for
example) could easily happen if WMP is the last player to have been updated.
I know that at the time I updated to Windows media Player 9 from 8, it
wanted to play all file types that it could, until I went in and selected
some, but not all. But it's not a problem, really. Just select the file
types you want in each player, and they should all cohabit respectfully
almost ever after.

Hi Denny,

While I respect your opinion regarding the Winamp Agent and it's uses, I
think you should know that if the default is being taken away from Winamp,
then you most likely have other issues to worry about.

In all the time I have ever used Winamp, well over 8 years, Windows Media
Player has never taken over the playing of my media unless I tell it to.

For example, I have Winamp set to play audio files and CD's, but I let
Windows Media player set to play video files at all times.

This is my preference, since I find Winamp pretty bad at playing video
files, not to mention, and to bring this back on topic, I find the video
controls for Windows Media Player to be more accessible with Jaws.

I have tried playing videos with Winamp, and while I could hear the audio,
my wife, who is sighted, could not see the video portion of the file, so
I've kept this setting ever since.

Suffice it to say, I have never had my audio files hijacked by Windows Media
Player since I've used Winamp. Wish I could say the same for Internet
Explorer, but glad I can say it for Winamp.

Might this hijacking you are talking about be the result of some possible
viruses or spam, or even spyware that you may not be aware of?

Like I said, I find it strange that your audio files would be hijacked by
WMP.

I guess the caveat could be that I am a one of a kind user who has never
experienced this, and welcome any comments from others who have experienced
this phenomenon.

Victor

Hello friends, as Me and ramkumar are the contributers for the 1.56 and7

we must agree with JimGrimsby to work for the project onwards.
yesterday, I was with Jim on skype, and he wants the complete removal of
the training mode feature of the scripts,
if any or all of you like it, just start mailing Jim for its stability
and improvement, the contact info is in the readme.
and if you don't, it will be removed when I will be back, in the next
release, 1.57.1 or 1.58 whatever be the release number,
if you want it to be removed, mail me why don't you like it.
note: it is not to put pressure on him, just to improve and continue
 develop the feature.
and I am also looking for your feedback please?
 Thanks for understanding,
 Good-luck, cheers!

Is there a way to copy files from different directories to the
clipboard so that you can move them all at once to a new location?

For example, I subscribe to a number of podcasts, which my podcatcher puts
in separate directories. What I would like to do is select a number of
these podcasts and move them all as a group to my Zinstone. As it is now,
I generally have to move them one or two at a time because I know of no
way to change directories while continuing to select files.

Is there a way to copy files from different directories to the
clipboard so that you can move them all at once to a new location?

For example, I subscribe to a number of podcasts, which my podcatcher

2008-01-23 Thread Bob J.

Below is an important excerpt from the Image for Windows User Manual:

Note: If you use the trial version of Image for Windows to make a backup,
you will
be able to restore that image for 30 days. After that time, you will only be
able to
restore that image using a registered version of Image for DOS, Image for
Linux, or
Image for Windows.

I have not performed a restore as of yet. The method as I understand it is
to make sure your optical drive is set to boo your system and do the
following. Place the first disk in the drive then when it pops out place the
last disk in. When it pops out then place the first disk back in and all
others in sequential order. It reminds me of the way PKZip worked back in
the DOS days. Naturally when I do perform a restore I will of course report
on it as well.

 David,

I would be interested in hearing how it does with a restore. Are you
planning on doing this? For me, this would be the critical part. It would
be interesting to see if it could be done without sighted assistance. Is
 the trial period fully functioning?

 thanks

I already have used the program and it works as advertised. I admit not
having used it to perform a restore as of yet though. I've also got to
 take
the time to pay for it maybe this week some time. It does have a trial

I just discovered this program a week or so ago and it's impressive if I
 do
say so myself. Now those of us who use screen readers will be able to
 create
image backup files of our hard drives effectively building our own set of
rescue disks in case a reload is in order. I use DVDs but it will burn to
CDs or to an external drive although for what it is I can't imagine doing
that. The web site is www.bootitng.com and the program is under $40 which
 in
my opinion folks would be worth it without it even being accessible
 because
to put it simply it works. The accessibility part is just gravy and I'm
 certainly going for it.

Hi David,

In his defence he was pretty specific.

At least that's my take on it.

I understood that he was trying to append to the clipboard files instead of
text, where he could take files from multiple folders and place them/copy

Was I wrong about his intention?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Copying files from various directories

2008-01-23 Thread Flor Lynch
Wouldn't it be simpler to just have the one directory for all of your
podcasts to download to, then select and copy to clipboard those you wanted
to transfer to your IPod? I understand that you are looking for a files or
file list append utility. This is another question. perhaps Googling would
yield some results? In the meantime, the first solution should work.
Windows as standard does *not* have a facility to append files to already
existing files on the clipboard.

That's pretty standard stuff, but not what I'm after at all. After you
select one, two or even all files (control-A) and copy them to the clipboard

selecting and copying files to the clipboard without overwriting the files

Is there a way to copy files from different directories to the
clipboard so that you can move them all at once to a new location?

For example, I subscribe to a number of podcasts, which my podcatcher
puts in separate directories. What I would like to do is select a
number of these podcasts and move them all as a group to my Zinstone.
As it is now, I generally have to move them one or two at a time
because I know of no way to change directories while continuing to select
files.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Copying files from various directories

2008-01-23 Thread Flor Lynch
Now there is something. If he also uses the 'before''' and 'after''' date
and time parameters, this could work. However, it may take quite a while
for all the files to be presented in the ensuing list. (Perhaps even the
Google Desktop Search could do this? It is reputed to be faster - and more
accurate - than the Windows search.)

[JAWS-Users] Outlook.

2008-01-23 Thread sue morgan
Hi.

I use outlook express currently at home, but I work for Barclays bank in one of
their call centres where they use outlook. I'm trying to get to grips with it
and I'm wondering if anyone knows of an audio tutorial that I can download.
The part of outlook I'll be using mainly is the calendar. When I open up the
calendar I use the left and right arrows to move between the days of the week.
The day view is checked but Jaws doesn't announce which day I'm on. I press
insert control plus D and Jaws announces the current date and then I tab to see
if there are any appointments in the calendar for that day. That's as far as
I've got I'm afraid. I've got Jaws 5 at work because Barclays is still on
Windows NT believe it or not.

I'd be grateful if anyone could give me some more pointers around navigating
outlook. My Skype and Messenger details are on my signature at the bottom of
this e-mail if anyone would like to contact me.

Thanks.

B aware, though, that JAWS won't work with that Eloquence, only its own
 locked version.

For me this key stroke combination brings up the Window's Media
configuration manager. Is this what it is intended to do?

Hi,

If you are using Jaws then try using the read line keystroke Insert 8, it
works for me.

I think it is just a personal preference. I have used Winamp for years
 and
it is what I have grown accustomed to using. WMP is a good media player
 and
if it does what you need it to do, then by all means keep using it.
I do find that it is easier to set up play lists in Winamp though. Also I
like being able to create bookmarks within a file easily in Winamp.
I also like being able to skip forward or back in 5 second intervals in
Winamp not to mention the ability to jump to any point within a file.
You can probably do all of these things using WMP, but I'm not totally
 sure
 about that.

 Hi,

I have been looking at just about every version of winamp over the last
 week
or so. I used to use Winamp several years ago but when I purchased a new
Laptop I tried using WMP 11 and have found it very good.

Please can somebody explain to me what I am missing by not using Winamp!

I do realise that it all depends on what you wish to do with your player
 and
that most of you will just think, Oh well whatever works for you but in my
case, Rippping, Burning using a Library, creating Play lists etc all are
very accessible using WMP but to be honest although I have had some
 success
with Winamp versions which includes using down loaded scripts from the
 site,
I am coming to the conclusion that WMP 11 is the thing to use.

Please tell me why most of you prefer Winamp and why you may think it is
better than the standard Windows Player.

Look forward to hearing your comments.

 regards

 Graham

Re: [JAWS-Users] to all goldwave and current script set users

2008-01-23 Thread Jitendra
Hello, sorry? but when I created the podcast, I did with
CTRL+Shift+grauv, and later at the time of release changed to
JAWSKey+Grauv, to make it similar and rememberable as Keyboard help,
(JawsKey+1).
When you install any script or software, that has the readme or any
documentation, you should go through before asking, by the way its my
pleasure to help you out all, but such documents contain recent
information, as the readme with script has this info to turn the
training, mode off and on, and hotkey help and autostart message too.
Thank you, sorry for trouble.
and again many thanks for asking, as it shows that you are active at
least on it!

I think it should be left in the scripts for beginners. How do I turn it
off though, as I don't particularly want it turned on right now, i
pressed ctrl shift and grauv, but nothing happened.

[JAWS-Users] Top and Bottom Edge Alert Question

2008-01-23 Thread Victor Gouveia
Hi Folks,

A Friend of mine asked me how Jaws could tell her that she is at the top or
bottom of the messages list in Outlook Express.

I have tried the insert+V command with her, but it doesn't seem to have fixed
the problem.

I thought about the possibility that something may need to be tweaked in the
configuration manager, but for the life of me, I can't find where to check that
setting in there.

As I said, I have tried the insert+V command, and the customary verbosity
dialog box pops up, and under top and bottom edge alert it states with sound.

Once I press the close button, it's like Jaws was never modified, and I still
don't know where to check this option in the configuration manager.

She is using Jaws 9.0.519 on a laptop running Windows XP, Outlook Express 6 and
Internet Explorer 6.

If it means anything, when she reads the message body, she does get a sound at
the end of the message, but never in the message list.

Another thing I should mention is that she is reading her messages with the
preview pain turned on, and indeed, reading her message via the preview pane,
not going in and opening the message individually.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

[JAWS-Users] Graphics not recognized

2008-01-23 Thread Mitch Galloway
Hi,

I'm trying to use a database program that uses many graphics. I place the
jaws currtsor on the graphic, but when I go to lable it Jaws says it is not
on a graphic. I've had a sighted friend verify that I am on the graphic.
If I press the left mouse button of Jaws, it performs the function of the
graphic. I have set the verbosity to all graphics. I even tried having
them identified automatically and Jaws didn't find any graphics. I'm using
JFW 9.0 and Windows XP. Any ideas as to why Jaws won't recognize the
sgraphics? Thanks!

Not in 8 or 9 at least, and maybe 7 as well.
