[JAWS-Users] Trouble Getting AdAware Definitions

2008-01-26 Thread ATT

I just finished downloading Adaware SE personal and have installed it with the
JFW scripts. However, when I try to get definition updates, I get the error
message:

error retrieving update and I found a server address of:

127.0.0.1 port 8080

I'd had Adaware on the computer before and the new programs tells me I hadn't
updated for 900 plus days.

Wonder what I need to do to get it to properly download new definitions.

Thanks

Re: [JAWS-Users] Trouble Getting AdAware Definitions

2008-01-26 Thread Marijan Janev
After the New year, you should manualy update the ad-aware se definition
downloading it from
http://download.lavasoft.com/public/
and unzip it into your lavasoft folder on C:\program files\
Good luck!

Re: [JAWS-Users] directory for jaws scripts.

2008-01-26 Thread Denny Huff
To install your Jaws scripts manually, first copy the scripts you want to
install to the clipboard.
Next go to the start menu, program files, Jaws 8, Explore Jaws , then to
Explore My Settings. You can paste the scripts there.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Trouble Getting AdAware Definitions

2008-01-26 Thread Brian Lee
First of all, you can not get the updates by using the update button in
Ad-Aware Personal SE. Download definitions from the referenced site below.
You will need to unzip the downloaded file and place the DEFS.REF file in
your JAWS ENU folder.
http://download.lavasoft.com/public/defs.zip

The 127.0.0.1 is your own computer. Maybe a port on the firewall needs to
be opened or another spyware protection program has written the 127.0.0.1 to
your host file for the Ad-Aware updating.

Correction: You place the DEFS.REF in the Ad-Aware folder and have it
replace the existing DEFS.REF file.

 Hi Rosemarie,

Why is it not a good idea to have the preview pane on?

If it relates to viruses or spyware, then there are ways to mitigate those
issues. If it relates to something I may not know about, could you let us
 know why?

I have been using the preview pane ever since I started with e-mail and
Outlook Express, and have never had an issue.

The only viruses to exploit having the preview pane on were the worm

have since patched the outlook programs with more secure coding to make a

Re: [JAWS-Users] Winamp and WMP 11

2008-01-26 Thread Carlene Knight
Hi:

If you use WMP use 10 not 11 if you want to make an honest comparison. Media
Player 10 is much simpler and easier to use. Eleven looks a bit more versitile
but it is a bear to navigate. If you are using Vista, to my knowledge, you
will be stuck with 11.

On Tue, 22 Jan 2008 09:14:27 -0600, you wrote:

I think it is just a personal preference. I have used Winamp for years and
it is what I have grown accustomed to using. WMP is a good media player and
if it does what you need it to do, then by all means keep using it.
I do find that it is easier to set up play lists in Winamp though. Also I
like being able to create bookmarks within a file easily in Winamp.
I also like being able to skip forward or back in 5 second intervals in
Winamp not to mention the ability to jump to any point within a file.
You can probably do all of these things using WMP, but I'm not totally sure
about that.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Winamp and WMP 11

Hi,

I have been looking at just about every version of winamp over the last week
or so. I used to use Winamp several years ago but when I purchased a new
Laptop I tried using WMP 11 and have found it very good.

Please can somebody explain to me what I am missing by not using Winamp!

I do realise that it all depends on what you wish to do with your player and
that most of you will just think, Oh well whatever works for you but in my
case, Rippping, Burning using a Library, creating Play lists etc all are
very accessible using WMP but to be honest although I have had some success
with Winamp versions which includes using down loaded scripts from the site,
I am coming to the conclusion that WMP 11 is the thing to use.

Please tell me why most of you prefer Winamp and why you may think it is
better than the standard Windows Player.

Look forward to hearing your comments.

regards

Graham
