Re: [JAWS-Users] Word shortcut key not working

2008-03-24 Thread Estelita
Actually, you can set the shortcut keys to all applications to wherever you
feel comparable with.
Like for instance, at school, I launched Word by pressing Windows key + E
then W. At work, I have to go to My Computer and press M till I land to
Microsoft Word etc.
But in my PC, Microsoft applications are set at the start menu, so I only
press Windows key then press the first letter of the application like W for
Word etc.

2008-03-24 Thread David Ferrin
I am glad you're back in the fold and of course as always you are welcome to
be a member of my little band. I also heard about your computer crash from
Patty because she's on the handy girl list and told me. So far as making use
of the web site, that's what it's there for and it does my heart good when I
hear people are using it to help them accomplish what ever it is they wish
to do. Sorry about all of your difficulties here of late, many of them I am
aware of but I'm sure not all. So far as the torsion of guidelines you refer
to are concerned Dan helped me write them a couple of years ago and you have
always stayed well with in them. Obviously that's why they are so colorful.
The man knows how to tern a phrase. We now after the last move have built
back up to over 300 people again, many of them are ready and willing to help
others with their computer questions. So once again welcome back and enjoy
the list.

Dave, you have no clue how much I have gone to the jaws users page. And I
don't' lie, and I'm not flaming, not asking for money for starving kids, I
am well within the conduct rules for the list. I even reread the first
email you get when joining the list, so there. Gosh, I feel like I have
been run over with this whole computer thing. It was like the death of a
dear friend. But wait, there's morewe are in the middle of having
another house remodeled, and we are packing up this house. So all my
phone numbers, contracts everything I had is gone. And I am the main one
doing all of this. It has been crazy here. This past week was Scott's
spring break and Monday, the day of the crash was his birthday. Needless
to say, not pretty here. Oh well, I'll just live and learn. Y'all take
care and give Patty a hug for me.

2008-03-24 Thread Ryan MacIsaac
Hi,

What happens when you try to run Jaws in default mode? Do you still get the
same error?
Remember that you have to type the following exactly as shown to run Jaws in
default mode:

Jaws9 /default

Note that there is a space after the 9 and before the slash. If you have a
version of Jaws other than Jaws 9, simply replace the 9 in the command above
with the version that you have.

Hi Flor,

I am not sure what you mean by MS Word shortcut dialogue so I didn't try
that. I did backspace everything out of the shortcut field in properties
before
reassigning alt, control, w key there. I tried Narrator to no avail either.
There is no dong when I try the alt, control, w keystroke. I also
downloaded the Hot Key Detective and it only shows the hot keys that
I have created. The weird thing is that the alt, control, w shortcut key
worked on this new computer for a few days and then all of a sudden just
stopped working. I am fine with using the control, shift, w keystroke. I
just wanted to make sure that there are not any problems with this new
computer. Thanks for all of your help.

Mike

Have you tried re-assigning the alt-ctrl-w hot key in the MS Word shortcut
dialogue? (Or changing/deleting the ctrl-shift-w shortcut key beforehand?)
If your shortcut key isn't accepted, try using narrator during the process.
(It just could be that JAWS isn't allowing you to make it. However, it
could also be that your Windows won't allow ctrl-alt-w to be used on your
new computer. Do you get a dong when you try to make your shortcut
ctrl-alt-w? If you do, then you may just have to accept ctrl-shift-w.)
Another option might be to install Hot Key Detective, which is a program
that detects all the keyboard shortcuts on your computer. It is available
on the jaws-users programs page.

Hi Flor,

No Flor, I didn't install Word Web but, I did have it installed on my old
computer and uninstalled it. I don't have it installed on this new computer
although I did reinstall the same Operating System and Office software. It
does seem like this shortcut problem started after the original installation
of Word Web the first time . I thought by uninstalling Word Web that would
take care of the problem but apparently not and if that is the problem, how
could I correct it. Thanks much.

WordWeb by default uses the keyboard shortcut alt-ctrl-w to launch. It will
do this unless you change it during installation. Did you install WordWeb?

 Hi,

What happens when you try to run Jaws in default mode? Do you still get
 the
 same error?
Remember that you have to type the following exactly as shown to run Jaws
 in
 default mode:

 Jaws9 /default

Note that there is a space after the 9 and before the slash. If you have a
version of Jaws other than Jaws 9, simply replace the 9 in the command
 above
with the version that you have.

2008-03-24 Thread Ryan MacIsaac
Hi,

That would seem to indicate that perhaps Jaws is not the problem. From what
I remember, you only get this error when opening Microsoft Word and no other
program - is this correct?

One other thing you can do when this error occurs is to virtualize the
window by pressing the Jaws key plus control W.

When the virtual window opens, go through it and see if there are any other
messages or descriptions of what the error problem is. If there is more
information on the error you are receiving, cut and paste the information in
to an e-mail message and send it to the list and perhaps we can figure out
what is going on.

The only other thing I can think of at the moment is that somehow, Microsoft
Word is corrupted and you might have to do a repair of Word.

Hello Ryan, I followed your instructions to the letter, and when i hit
enter after typing jaws 9 slash default, it did say jaws. Then right
 after
that, I opened word 2002 just like I always do, and got the same error
 message that I reported.

 Hi,

What happens when you try to run Jaws in default mode? Do you still get
 the
 same error?
Remember that you have to type the following exactly as shown to run Jaws
 in
 default mode:

 Jaws9 /default

Note that there is a space after the 9 and before the slash. If you have
 a
version of Jaws other than Jaws 9, simply replace the 9 in the command
 above
with the version that you have.

I did effect a repair of my jaws 9, too see if that might eliminate that

 repair

that I did, had no effect, and the message still comes up, even after I
 did
the repair. If anyone has any further suggestions, I'd appreciate them.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Update on the problem that I'm having withword 2002

2008-03-24 Thread Flor Lynch
Perhaps at this stage it might save you further anxiety if you contact FS
Tech Support directly, telling them all the steps you have done up to this?
They may know about such an issue as you have. (I've seen the likes of it
before, at one time when I had JAWS4.51, and Word 2002, on a Windows
Millennium system. A few people also had my symptoms, but it was discovered
by FS only after they had shipped 4.51.) What happened then was that Word
XP would close again with an error report when you tried to go into a new
blank document. We had to wait for the next update to cure the problem, or
use another version of JAWS with Word XP in the meantime. (the problem was
not widespread; but it sure was aggravating for those of us who experienced
it.)

Hi,
It's a bit tricky; it helps if you have sighted assistance out there. Here
it goes:
1. Using the mouse, put the cursor on the Start button and press the right
mouse key.
Jaws say to open press enter.
You then press Enter key and Jaws say, start menu folder view list view.
2. Press the Win key and P for program. This time, using the arrow keys,
find the application you want, let's say you want Microsoft Word, and then
press the application key, and S for shortcut. You're still in the program.
3. Press M till you land onto Microsoft Word, Jaws should say Microsoft
Word w then press Ctrl X to cut.
4. Press the Win key again, Jaws says navigation bar
5. Alt Tab till you land onto Start menu, down arrow till it says blank
and paste.
Alt F4 to close.
So if you want to open that application, just press the Win key, then W till
you hear it says word and press Enter.
Hope this helps.

Like for instance, at school, I launched Word by pressing Windows key + E

[JAWS-Users] Attachments in Outlook 2003

2008-03-24 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
I seem to have changed some setting in Outlook 2003 by accident and
can't figure out which setting to change. It used to be that when there
was an attachment to an email received in Outlook 2003, I would hit
insert+a to enter the attachements list. For about the last week, when
I use that keystroke, I'm taken out of the open message. It seems that
I recall there is a setting perhaps in security that I need to change.
Can anyone tell me what that might be?

I'm using Jaws 8 and Windows XP Pro with Outlook 2003.

Thanks.

2008-03-24 Thread Ryan MacIsaac
Hi,

I don't see an error message or any other information in the message you
sent. All I see is the tool bar and header for Microsoft Word.

I don't know what else to tell you. The only other thing I can think of is
to try and do a repair of Word. As someone else has suggested, your best bet
may be to contact Freedom Scientific and see what they can suggest.

 Hi,

That would seem to indicate that perhaps Jaws is not the problem. From
 what
I remember, you only get this error when opening Microsoft Word and no
 other
 program - is this correct?

One other thing you can do when this error occurs is to virtualize the
window by pressing the Jaws key plus control W.

When the virtual window opens, go through it and see if there are any
 other
messages or descriptions of what the error problem is. If there is more
information on the error you are receiving, cut and paste the information
 in
to an e-mail message and send it to the list and perhaps we can figure out
 what is going on.

The only other thing I can think of at the moment is that somehow,
 Microsoft
Word is corrupted and you might have to do a repair of Word.

 after
that, I opened word 2002 just like I always do, and got the same error

Is there a way to run the entire program without having to monitor it?

 Hi,
It's a bit tricky; it helps if you have sighted assistance out there.
Here
 it goes:
 1. Using the mouse, put the cursor on the Start button and press the
right
 mouse key.
Jaws say to open press enter.
You then press Enter key and Jaws say, start menu folder view list view.
 2. Press the Win key and P for program. This time, using the arrow keys,
find the application you want, let's say you want Microsoft Word, and then
press the application key, and S for shortcut. You're still in the
program.
 3. Press M till you land onto Microsoft Word, Jaws should say Microsoft
Word w then press Ctrl X to cut.
 4. Press the Win key again, Jaws says navigation bar
 5. Alt Tab till you land onto Start menu, down arrow till it says blank
 and paste.
 Alt F4 to close.
So if you want to open that application, just press the Win key, then W
till
you hear it says word and press Enter.
 Hope this helps.

Actually, you can set the shortcut keys to all applications to wherever
 you
  feel comparable with.
Like for instance, at school, I launched Word by pressing Windows key +
E
then W. At work, I have to go to My Computer and press M till I land to
  Microsoft Word etc.
But in my PC, Microsoft applications are set at the start menu, so I
only
press Windows key then press the first letter of the application like W
 for
  Word etc.

 Hi Carla,

You might want to update to 5.10 and go from there.

Secondly, in your configuration manager, open the default configuration
file, then go to the settings menu, followed by entering on verbosity.

In that dialog box, make sure that intermediate is selected, instead of
 beginner.

Once it's selected, tab to the ok button and press the spacebar.

Once out of that dialog box, press control+S to save the configuration
 file,
then close it with an alt+F4.

 Now see if that helps.

If it doesn't, let us know and I'll write some detailed instructions on
 how
to tweak the verbosity dialog box.

 Victor

Rich, I hope you get an answer since the same thing happens to me. If you
enter on next, it asks if you want to continue without completing the
scan
or just quit and I don't have a way to continue the scan. However, if I
set
the schedule to scan once a week in the night, I guess it finishes.

 Hi Rich,

When running Super Anti-spyware, make sure that the drive that you
want to scan is checked. Apparently, one of your other drive is
checked like the A drive, CDR or CDRW and you don't have a floppy
disk or CD in there. See below:

 SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition
 SUPERAntiSpyware Scanner
Please select the drive(s) to scan and your scanning options. Click
 Next to begin scanning.
 Scan Location
 A:\ - Removable Quick Scan
 C:\ - Fixed Drive (NTFS)
 D:\ - Fixed Drive (NTFS)
 F:\ - CD-ROM
 G:\ - CD-ROM

 Hope this helps,

 Lennie

Either have the person sending you the file save it as a .doc file or there

 Hi Flor,

I am not sure what you mean by MS Word shortcut dialogue so I didn't try
that. I did backspace everything out of the shortcut field in properties
 before
reassigning alt, control, w key there. I tried Narrator to no avail
 either.

 Mike

Have you tried re-assigning the alt-ctrl-w hot key in the MS Word shortcut
dialogue? (Or changing/deleting the ctrl-shift-w shortcut key
 beforehand?)
If your shortcut key isn't accepted, try using narrator during the
 process.
It is available
 on the jaws-users programs page.

 how

WordWeb by default uses the keyboard shortcut alt-ctrl-w to launch. It
 will
do this unless you change it during installation. Did you install

Hi, I've not seen this, however perhaps it's trying to access the
drive(s) that are removable, such as CD-ROM drives, and that because you
don't have a disk in it can't access it. By default Super Antispyware
scans all fixed hard disks, however this can be customized by the user
before the scan takes place. Hope that helps.

I have searched for a way to change my outlook express address book look.
By this I mean, when I open my address book, I only want to hear the name,
not the name with the email address all ran together. I have tried going
in each individual account and trying to change them, but no luck. And
yes, Victor, I did do the upgrade to 5.1.
I couldn't find anything on jaws users that described my problem

Beware of the paid version of AVG. I have used the free version for many
years but today I decided to try the paid version. After installing it I
tried to run the control center. I got one of those errors that says
something like. the instruction at 0 has performed an illegal
 operation.
Could not write to the location. When I closed jaws there was no problem.
When I tried to open jaws it errored out. JAWS and AVG paid are totally
incompatible. Now, wish me luck at getting my money back.

anything different with AVG other than the free package I seem to run into
some type trouble . My thought is the router and AVG free virus is enough?

 Hi Rich,

When running Super Anti-spyware, make sure that the drive that you
want to scan is checked. Apparently, one of your other drive is
checked like the A drive, CDR or CDRW and you don't have a floppy
disk or CD in there. See below:

 SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition
 SUPERAntiSpyware Scanner
Please select the drive(s) to scan and your scanning options. Click
 Next to begin scanning.
 Scan Location
 A:\ - Removable Quick Scan
 C:\ - Fixed Drive (NTFS)
 D:\ - Fixed Drive (NTFS)
 F:\ - CD-ROM
 G:\ - CD-ROM

 Hope this helps,

Al, I am on the same page as you in regard to difficulties with avg 8 and
the pro security package. Avg antispyware was not accessible when I tried
it separately. So, I am continuing with avgfree v. 7 which is very easy to
use. And I am in the learning process with the paid version of super
antispyware which takes some patiende. Actually, it runs for over an hour
and requires that patience plus a bit of study as some have already noted.
I would prefer an antispyware program as easy and hands off as avgfree
antivirus. If anyone can vouch for such, I'd like to hear about it as long
as it isn't one that requires lots of jaws cursoring. marilyn

 Rich Hamel wrote:
When running super anti spy ware, the program seems to stop about half

In order to finish the program, I have to click on continue.
Is there a way to run the entire program without having to monitor it?

 I have XP and 9.0.

 Thank you.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Word shortcut key not working

2008-03-24 Thread Flor Lynch
One can also rename it (to Word) in the start menu, programs submenu, by
using the rename option in its context menu. Try assigning ctrl-alt-w to
some other program not Microsoft word, see if that takes, then delete it (if
you don't want it). Some Windows XP computers are picky about what (and
how) they allow for keyboard shortcuts. Thus, ctrl-alt-w may have worked
temporarily, until you restarted your computer or created another shortcut
in like manner.

 Hi Flor,

I am not sure what you mean by MS Word shortcut dialogue so I didn't try
that. I did backspace everything out of the shortcut field in properties
 before
reassigning alt, control, w key there. I tried Narrator to no avail
 either.

 Mike

Have you tried re-assigning the alt-ctrl-w hot key in the MS Word shortcut
dialogue? (Or changing/deleting the ctrl-shift-w shortcut key
 beforehand?)
If your shortcut key isn't accepted, try using narrator during the
 process.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] one more outlook express question

I have searched for a way to change my outlook express address book look.
By this I mean, when I open my address book, I only want to hear the name,
not the name with the email address all ran together. I have tried going
in each individual account and trying to change them, but no luck. And
yes, Victor, I did do the upgrade to 5.1.
I couldn't find anything on jaws users that described my problem
 thanks,
 cj

Re: [JAWS-Users] Super anti spy ware

2008-03-24 Thread Brian Lee
After you use the Scan your computer button, the subsequent dialog box has
a tree view for choosing which drives should be scanned. use the tab key to
move to the tree view. Use the up and down arrow keys to make sure only the
hard drives are checked. If the floppy drive or CD-ROM drive choices are
checked and there are no disks in those drives then you might get an error
message letting you know that no disks are in the drives. This might not be
the problem but check it out to make sure.

Rich, I hope you get an answer since the same thing happens to me. If
 you
enter on next, it asks if you want to continue without completing the
 scan
or just quit and I don't have a way to continue the scan. However, if I
 set
the schedule to scan once a week in the night, I guess it finishes.

Hi,

When you installed jaws 8, did you choose to save your settings so in
version 9, wouldn't they be automatically moved?

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Moving Dictionary Manager settings to Jaws 9

Hi all. For the life of me, I can't remember how to move all my dictionary
manager settings from an earlier version of jaws to the newest version.
I've just upgraded from Jaws 7 to Jaws 9. I have quite a few
modifications--especially in Outlook--that would really be a pain to
manually redo. But if I have no choice, then I'll just buckle down and do
it. Thanks for any suggestions.

Re: [JAWS-Users] AVG update

2008-03-24 Thread Carlene Knight
The license that you purchase is good for 2 years, so once you purchase that
license, you get whatever updates are available without having to pay extra
during that time. As far as JAWS accessibility, I'm having no problems
whatsoever. I've just upgraded from JAWS 7 to 9, and don't see any difference.

I'm looking for the creative media light software program. It is a free

not the name with the email address all ran together. I have tried going
in each individual account and trying to change them, but no luck. And
yes, Victor, I did do the upgrade to 5.1.
I couldn't find anything on jaws users that described my problem

I stand corrected. We're running 7.5 for some reason. I haven't tried 8. I
assumed we had the latest one as our license isn't up yet. Perhaps I should bow

Hi Carla,

I uploaded it for another list I'm on, and I've included the link to
download it from send space.

You can download the Creative Media Light software at the following link:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/f557p0

You can also get the scripts for the software at Brian's site, but I don't
know the exact address right now.

If you still need it, I'll look into it tomorrow for you.
