I must say, moving around in Vista's Windows Explorer is rather confusing. I had some sighted help to get the layout to look a little more like it did in XP, but navigating is still baffling. My question is general at this point. Are there any tips or tutorials available for Windows Explorer while in Vista for us JAWS users? A matter of fact, my question goes for Vista as a whole. I looked on the Freedom Scientific Web site, but I didn't locate any helpful documentation on Vista. although, I suppose I may have been looking in the wrong place. Thanks for any help. Let's not get confused between the 64-bit operating system which JAWS up to now cannot work with, and the dual-core, 64-bit processors which JAWS may work well with - being hardware components on which Windows XP 32-bit can be put. - Original Message - From: Demetry [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Saturday, August 02, 2008 1:05 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Can JAWS 9 Work With Vista 64 Bits Hi Al, JAWS 9 will not work really under 64 bit systems. Re: [JAWS-Users] Can JAWS 9 Work With Vista 64 Bits
This is very interesting because I installed it and it was running somewhat peculiar in demo mode. I did need to uninstall the yahoo toolbar and that seemed to help. I did notice some strange behaviors but did not have a lot of time to play with it. What I was noticing was it was skipping things when reading back. I often had to use the JAWS cursor to read things It also would not let me cut paste. The biggest issue is when I go to register through the ILM process it will not let me. I'm wondering if JAWS will not allow this due to the 64 bit processor? thanks' Al -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Demetry Sent: Saturday, August 02, 2008 8:05 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Can JAWS 9 Work With Vista 64 Bits Hi Al, JAWS 9 will not work really under 64 bit systems. Re: [JAWS-Users] Can JAWS 9 Work With Vista 64 Bits
Sorry, I mistook the the 64 Bit systems with the Windows versions. Yes, That's true. Under 64 Bit processors you can work fine with Windows 32 Bit and JAWS 9. But, it will not work under Windows 64 Bit Operating Systems. I my computer I have 64 Bit Dual Core Processor when I don't need the screen reading software would be surely changed.
Hi lisa, As far as computers go, you maybe aware that the only thing a computer reads is binary code, or zeroes and ones. A bit is either a 0 or a 1. a 32 bit processor can accept 32 bits per binary sequence, and a 64 bit processor can accept 64 bits per sequence. An example of binary code could be, if you had a 16 bit processor, and you typed the number 256 into the machine, to the CPU, it would read like this. 0001. Hi Marilyn: That's just the nature of the beast I think. If you had a mouse and wanted to perform a search without typing something in, it would be very easy to just click on something on the list and resume a search you had started or to go bacvk to a page in a previous search. You are in an edit field and if you were to click on one of those, it would automatically fill in the edit field for you. I don't think there is a way of getting rid of that feature. Ah! As Sky uses the Gmail servers, you need to tell your programme to use recent mode. Here's how to do it: 1. In Outlook Express, press alt t to open the tools menu, then press a to open the account properties dialogue box. 2. Select your Sky account in the list, and press alt p to open the properties dialogue box. 3. Control tab one time to the servers page, tab to the account name edit field, press the home key to route your cursor to the start of your account name, and type the word recent followed by a colon, so it looks like this: recent:stuartross 4. Tab to ok and press enter. 5. Tab to close and press enter. 6. Do a send/receive with control m. I know what you mean. I just ignore it though because as you say, we hardly ever want to return to a previous search. Even if we get rid of them for our convenience I believe they are still on record somewhere within Google. On Sat, 2 Aug 2008 17:18:25 -0500, you wrote: Carline, I do the same. I have a question and I'm not sure if anyone would have any ideas as to how I can resolve an issue I'm having. At work, we use Lotus notes to send/receive emails. There is a webmail version, which seems to also use lotus notes as well, by accessing the mail servers, and the way you send mail is there's a toolbar at the top of the page, that you have to use the Jaws cursor to find, and there you have the reply, forward, New Memo etc., buttons. The thing is, I can see the toolbar on my desktop computer at work, but I can't see it on my laptop at home. Supposedly, the toolbar is there, according to the IT guy who looked at my laptop. Could someone tell me why it would display on my work computer and not the one given to me to telecommute? I'm using IE 6.0 on both machines, we are running the latest version of jaws, so I'm not sure what's the issue. Does anyone have any ideas? Re: [JAWS-Users] AVG question
I'm not David, but go into your firewall settings and add whatever it is that is blocked to accept it. Or if a screen pops up when you try to access it, tab to the always accept this rule press spacebar to accept and then you might have to tab to the allow button and alt A, tab to ok button. - Original Message - From: rusty [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Saturday, August 02, 2008 10:17 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] AVG question David, here's one for you about avg, how do you go about changing something in the list of blocked sites or programs in avg with jaws? we are having a problem with avg blocking my wife from getting in to her folder on my system from her computer over our home network, thanks in advance if you know how and share your knowledge. - Original Message - From: David Ferrin [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Thursday, July 31, 2008 5:17 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] AVG question Just changing the subject line to reflect the message is all. Hi, Press jaws key f11. Now go to AVG and hit enter, then down arrow once. You should be on update now press enter on that. If you aren't on that, find it in the menu and open it. You Will now be in a list of updates if there are any. Select the ones you want and press install updates. HTH! - Original Message - From: kk. Hi Albert, Yes, make sure it is checked. This will show the most common options in Outlook Express. HTH, Richard Q.
