The basic operating systems are very different. To program for
accessibility in one environment does not mean that it will be
programmed

correctly for another.

Apple, it seems to me, has a history of pushing development of
solutions

to third parties. VoiceOver is a departure from this approach, but it
feels as if their approach to the changes in Itunes 9 is a reversion to
form for Windows based programs.

Got a question, but first an explanation is needed.
As most of you probably know, outlook express has the autocomplete
feature

built in. In the to field, you start to type in the address. If there's a
possible match, it fills in the rest, and jaws will read this to you. So
for example, you type in the letter b. If the first entry is
blindco...@yahoo.com, autocomplete will fill this in and jaws will say
lindco...@yahoo.com.
Now, for the question. Can the autocomplete feature in Windows Mail be
made to work exactly like Outlook Express? Thanks for any info.

Actually it does. Before I was presented with outlook 2007, I used windows
mail. And it remembers the most popular 25 email addresses that you use.
But they have to be entered manually at least once. Tried it and tested it,
works like a charm. Outlook 2007 serves my needs more, otherwise I would
still be using it.

Yes, the box is checked. However, this doesn't resolve the issue. If I type
in a partial address, then hit tab or enter, it fills it in. But I have to
hit shift tab to get back to the to field or some other reading keystroke to
find out what it put in. In xp with Outlook Express, it would begin filling
it in as soon as you typed the first letter and jaws would read it.

Yes, in short, System Access (and System Access to Go) is the only
thing that works with iTunes right now. I don't know what the SA
mouse over command is, but still...it works. The format kind of
reminds me of AmazonMP3, which is fine.
Also, I don't know why the library won't read if it has been upgraded
previously--perhaps because the file contains upgraded data?

yes the option is there!

I'm using Vista, and, I'm using windows-mail.

I found that, windows mail remembers the last 25 contacts you've used. when
you insert a contact manually into your address book, the first time, you'll
need to complete the address.

after this, you should have no problem with the auto complete of an

Steve,

Go to your desktop and hit the tab key until you are on the start button.
Hit the application key and select properties. Use the ctrl/tab key to
select task bar page. There is a check box there that you need to make sure
is unchecked. The name is hide inactive icons. Hope this helps

[JAWS-Users] Control Description in JAWS 11

2009-09-17 Thread Chris Hallsworth
Hello all,
Using the JAWS 11 public beta 2, I have turned on this new feature called
Control Description. My friend wants to try me out with something, but it's
not working here. I'm on the Google home page and apparently if you up past
the search edit field it will say something, but it's just saying blank
here. Could someone please describe to me how this is meant to work? I keep
hearing, insert F1 for help, but wasn't sure if that was a control
description. An example of this tutor message is when I type in my password
to log onto Windows 7.
Thanks in advance, and please excuse my ignorance.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS in a stick query

2009-09-17 Thread Chris Hallsworth
I haven't tried it, but basically it allows you to carry around your own
copy of JAWS with your very own settings. However, there are some caveats:
1. A video intercept driver needs to be installed on the machine(s) to which
JAWS thumb drive version will be used. This is a problem for system
administrators who wish to restrict access to such machines.
2. You must have a license installed on the system(s) in order to use JAWS
longer than 40 minutes. Without a license JAWS runs in 40 minute mode.
3. You cannot use JAWS Tandem trademark with JAWS thumb drive version. In
fact, JAWS Tandem trademark won't be visible in the menus.
Hope this helps.

[JAWS-Users] Windows Live or OE

2009-09-17 Thread graham smith
Hi

I have been using outlook express now for several years and have just
downloaded the latest windows live programs due to being prompted to when I
opened my old msn.

First impressions are that Live mail works very well and there is no double
repeating at all which I am currently getting a lot of in Jaws 11. Two things
though, messages are not announced as being unread and when i tab into the
folder list first letter navigation does not work to move through my list of
folders, I have to up and down arrow, anyone know if these two things can be
sorted out?

Appreciate any views of advantages of using live mail over Outlook Express.

One more question please, Is windows Mail in Vista the same thing as Windows
Live Mail?

Regards

Graham

The strangest thing happened yesterday. I am running the Jaws 11 beta
to see how it works and report any issues prior to the final release.
It has been working very well with very few quirks. When I booted up
my machine yesterday Jaws 11 announced that this version of Jaws had
expired and to contact FS Technical support for assistance. I figured
something had became corrupt and I would simply repair or reinstall. I
had a devil of a time getting it off my machine. I then reinstalled
and it gave me the same message. I will send a beta report to FS as
they do not like to provide over the phone tech support on beta
 products according to their website.
 For some
reason it even affected my JAWS 10 where I lost speech and had to do a
reinstall which did require some sighted assistance. Has anyone else
 had a similar issue?

 thanks
 Al

Has anyone else
 had a similar issue?

 thanks
 Al

Hello there;

yes the option is there!

I'm using Vista, and, I'm using windows-mail.

I found that, windows mail remembers the last 25 contacts you've used. when
you insert a contact manually into your address book, the first time, you'll
need to complete the address.

after this, you should have no problem with the auto complete of an
recipient address.

Shane

Yahoo works with Jaws 10 but I can't say it works well. It looses focus,
won't speak the complete name in the message and now I have a five second
delay before I hear the message. I really want to go back to live but I
can't get it to work. I downloaded the 11 beta and it works great there, but
well not in 10.
I'm wondering if I can't use the scripts that came with J11 in j10 and how
to do that in that case.

Hi

I have been using outlook express now for several years and have just
downloaded the latest windows live programs due to being prompted to when I
opened my old msn.

First impressions are that Live mail works very well and there is no double
repeating at all which I am currently getting a lot of in Jaws 11. Two
things though, messages are not announced as being unread and when i tab
into the folder list first letter navigation does not work to move through
my list of folders, I have to up and down arrow, anyone know if these two
things can be sorted out?

Appreciate any views of advantages of using live mail over Outlook Express.

One more question please, Is windows Mail in Vista the same thing as Windows
Live Mail?

Regards

Graham

Honestly could not think of a more detailed subject line, but I do have a
very weird situation with Jaws 10, and it only seems to appear in email
subject lines. It does not happen in Jaws 8, my other version, and I do
think my configuration manager settings are the same in both versions. No
matter how many times I try fixing this nothing helps. In Outlook Express,
if there is a name in the subject line that begins with the letters M A R,
such as Marshall or Mary, Jaws will say subject March Twan and then the rest
of the name--like it'll say March Twan Shal for Marshall. When I read the
word by character nothing seems amiss, and even the body of the email
pronounces the name correctly. I have no idea if it could be a weird bolded
print or something, but has anyone else run across this weird thing? I
doubt it but thought I'd pose the question and see if anything can be
changed to make M A R names pronounce correctly in email subject lines.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Control Description in JAWS 11

2009-09-17 Thread Donald Marang

Hi Chris,

I assume that this feature is able to extract the help information that can
be part of an object using MSAA and present it to the user. It could also
apply to a replacement standard, I think is called User Interface
Accessibility (UIA), or from both. This would only be useful if the
developer actually provided this text within the application. This might be
helpful in applications using MSAA, like iTunes. What is the hotkey to get
the help information?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Zone Alarm?

2009-09-17 Thread Lennie Rinaldi

Chris,

If memory serves me, I do think that Zone Alarm would pop up asking
for it to be allowed or denied.

I did have a problem one time after installing Jaws for the first
time. I think that Jaws needed to go to FS to verify my SMA. For some
reason, I just don't remember exactly what I did to get arounnd it.

I might have brought up NVDA to read the screen. Once I check the
spacebar to remember the program and allowed it, it works okay.

One more thing, I think that you might have the same problems with
Jaws updates.

Sorry for being so vague, but it has been a while since I installed
Jaws 10. I hope that I help a little?

Randy,

ZoneAlarm has two versions, one is free while the complete one will have to
be purchased.

The free one is the basic free ZoneAlarm. I use this one although navigating
ZoneAlarm is not very friendly to Jaws users. Once it is set up, you can use
it to allow or deny access to the Internet and prevent anyone from accessing
your computer.

Note, this is only a firewall while the paid version comes complete with
anti-virus and anti-spyware.

You can go to the following site to download it at:

http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us/free-upgrade-security-suite-zonealar
m-firewall.htm

Press enter on the following which is a link on the page to start the
download.

Get it from CNET Download.com!

The files are installed, but I can't tell any difference.

The basic training files for JAWS beta 2 are available as an update if you
run the jaws update feature.

Of course it says it's jaws basic training 1 2 and 3 but when you install
it

it says it installed basic training 1 2 and 4.

Just thought I'd let everybody know encase you want them.

[JAWS-Users] slight sluggishness with jfw 11?

2009-09-17 Thread CrisMunoz54
Hello list,

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed a slight sluggishness when using
jaws 11 as opposed to jfw 10?

I've been switching back and forth between both versions since somethings
like firefox and outlook I'm finding work better with 10.0 and when I'm
using 11, it's as though there's a little hesitation with the reading
commands. Especially in IE8 and in any sort of word processing app. I'm
usually running between 23 and 31 processes at any given time with both
versions. I'm running xp pro and office 2003. Nothing out of the ordinary.

It's nothing drastic, but enough to be noticeable.

I'm just curious if it may just be me.

Thanks,
Cristobal

I haven't noticed that, but I don't run that many things at one time.
