Providing your license is for 10 then yes you can use 10 even after the 11

hello David,
I am not able to upgrade just now.
the thing is not clear to me, Demo JAWS stopped after 40 minutes. So, after
40 minutes what will be my way, if I want to stop reading for few minutes
and start reading after sometime?
Another thing is, is it posible to run jaws 10 after 40 minutes over of
jaws11 with full daisy?

No the Jaws 10 FS Reader is a demo and restricted to reading FS material.
However the good news is that the full version is available with the
 Jaws
 11
demo so you can use the full version of FS Reader even if you cannot
afford to upgrade to Jaws 11 right now.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Using FS Reader to read mp3 Audio Books

 Dear list

 I offer this tip.
Experimenting with the full version of FSReader that comes with Jaws
11 I have found that it is very good at reading mp3 audio books. In
particular the capacity to increase reading rate with control page
up is better than any other software that I have come across for
this feature. Unlike other solutions for accelerating playback the
distortion level is low. It seems

 a
bit like having the Victor Reader Stream reading capacity on your PC.

As I understand it, even if you download and install only the demo
version of Jaws 11 you will get the full version of FSReader.

Of course FSReader will not normally read mp3 audio books as it
 looks only for daisy content.
However I have found an easy way to convert a folder of mp3 files
into a Daisy book that FSReader will open and read.

The first step is to copy the folder of mp3 files you want to
convert into an easy place to find on your PC. I copied a book onto
my C drive and renamed the folder daisy.

Now download the free Daisy book Generator from

 http://jaapvanlelieveld.xs4all.nl/daisy.htm

Install the Daisy Book Generator and run the program from your
 programs menu.

The program is a very simple command line program. There are no
 menus or buttons.
Simply type in the path of the folder you want to become a Daisy
 Book and then press enter.
In my case this is C:\daisy
It seems impossible to copy and paste a long path into the program
which is why I suggest you copy the folder you want to convert into
 an easy to type location.
Press enter if you get any warning messages from the program about
the filenames you have in your folder.

The program will then start converting your folder of mp3 files into
 a daisy book.
The program will prompt you when this is completed and then pressing
enter again will close the program.

Now you will find that FS Reader will recognise this folder as a
daisy book and play the contents.

 Regards

 David Griffith

A few days ago someone mentioned that he had gotten a laptop with the

and did not think to check for a number pad when buying it.
With all the problems I have had getting it set up and working properly I
was not really happy with it. But now since my sister pointed out that it
does indeed, have the number pad I am now thrilled with it.
I have always carried a separate full size keyboard with me to use with my
old laptop. This keyboard on my new Acer is really full sized. By marking
several vital keys with raised bumps and stick on Velcro for ease of use I
am now able to use the keyboard easily.
The laptop was very reasonable, too. Wal-Mart had them on sale for $349 at
the beginning of November So if anyone is looking for the laptop with the
number pad built in check out Acer. This unit has 4 gb ram and 250 HD with
Windows 7 64 bit.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Using FS Reader to read mp3 Audio Books

2009-12-04 Thread Dickson Tan
.

Now download the free Daisy book Generator from

 http://jaapvanlelieveld.xs4all.nl/daisy.htm

Install the Daisy Book Generator and run the program from your programs
 menu.

The program is a very simple command line program. There are no menus or
 buttons.
Simply type in the path of the folder you want to become a Daisy Book
 and
 then press enter.
In my case this is C:\daisy
It seems impossible to copy and paste a long path into the program which
 is
why I suggest you copy the folder you want to convert into an easy to
 type
 location.
Press enter if you get any warning messages from the program about the
filenames you have in your folder.

The program will then start converting your folder of mp3 files into a
 daisy
 book.
The program will prompt you when this is completed and then pressing
 enter
 again will close the program.

Now you will find that FS Reader will recognise this folder as a daisy
 book
 and play the contents.

Hi Mike,

You can easily stop this message from appearing in your system tray by
following these steps:
1. Press Windows key and then Escape to focus on the Start button.
2. Tab once to the Task Bar and press Alt-Enter to bring up the Task Bar
Properties dialog.
3. Tab to the Notification Area Customize dialog button and hit Space.
4. Tab to the list of System Tray icons and press Y repeatedly until you
land on You Have New Email , which, by default is set to Always Show.
5. Right arrow once to the Behavior combo box , and arrow up to Always
Hide. Tab to Okay, hit Space and tab again to Okay and hit Space. This
should permenantly suppress the email notification message in the System
Tray. You can select Always Hide to suppress any other icon you don't
want to appear in the System Tray. HTH.

[JAWS-Users] incerting a sd card in your pc

2009-12-04 Thread Mich
hi all. I have a windows xp Home sp 3 pc Tower. it is a desk top pc not a lap
top pc. and it has a slot to insert the sd card. I have inserted it but it is
a blank
sd card. I am just wondering how I would get windows to recognize this?and also
how I would eject it? It is sticking out half way right now so maybe it
is in the wrong slot. the sd card slots are on the front of my tower right next
to the usb port. the cards that I have seen have one corner that is at a slight
slant kind of like it has been cut off. they are the standard sd card's that
are used in cameras etc. I just am also wondering where I would go to enable
windows to show these cards on my pc? many thanks. I hope to hear back from
some one soon. from Mich.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Stopping email in system tray

2009-12-04 Thread Lisa Belville

Hi,

I'm using JAWS 10 and XP SP3 over here and these were my findings:

This didn't show for me, either until I unchecked the box for showing
inactive icons. Once I did this, I tabbed and found the customization
button.

I just went back into taskbar properties and didn't see the customize button
until I checked the box with the same results.

I don't think it matters if the box was checked or not before making a
change, but it does appear that you need to activate or deactivate something
in that portion of the dialog in order to tab to the button, because it's
not visible before then, I didn't find it with the JAWS cursor, either.

Veni, Vedi, Visa. I came. I Saw. I did a little shopping.

Trust me. If you are running XP, the Notification Area Customize dialog in
the Task Bar and Start Menu Properties dialog will contain a list of System
Tray icons. Be sure you are focused on the Task Bar page of this two-page
dialog. My Notification Area list has a total of 68 icons. Of course, they
are not all displayed at the same time, because most of them are defaulted
to Hide When Inactive. BTW: You can also access the Task Bar and Start
Menu Properties dialog by selecting this option from the Control Panel, and
tabbing within the Task Bar page to the Notification Area Customize button.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] incerting a sd card in your pc

hi all. I have a windows xp Home sp 3 pc Tower. it is a desk top pc not
a lap top pc. and it has a slot to insert the sd card. I have inserted
it but it is a blank
sd card. I am just wondering how I would get windows to recognize
this?and also how I would eject it? It is sticking out half way right
now so maybe it
is in the wrong slot. the sd card slots are on the front of my tower
right next to the usb port. the cards that I have seen have one corner
that is at a slight slant kind of like it has been cut off. they are the
standard sd card's that are used in cameras etc. I just am also
wondering where I would go to enable windows to show these cards on my
pc? many thanks. I hope to hear back from some one soon. from Mich.

2009-12-04 Thread david
Hello there;
Here are some steps I wrote quite a while ago, regarding this topic to
another list.

try these steps to get your safely remove hardware icon back into the system
tray.

1, start menu;

2, setting/control panel;

3, t= taskbar and start menu, press enter.
If your using Xp, you just need to tab until you hear,
hide inactive icons, the box should be unchecked, so press spacebar to check
this box.
you will now see customize dialog button. The next 3 steps are for vista
users.
4, shift tab one time, you should hear,
taskbar tab.
5, right arrow until you hear;
Notification area tab.
6, tab one time you should hear;
Hide inactive icons this is unchecked, press spacebar to check.
7, tab enter on,
Icons customize
8, now, down arrow until you hear,
safely remove hardware,
right arrow, a combo box will open,
down arrow to show.
9, now tab, and enter on okay.

this should get your icon back into the system tray.
these same steps will apply, if you want to remove a icon from your system
tray.

What client are you using? Most like outlook have an option in the settings
to turn off this tray notification altogether.

HTH.

 5. Right arrow once to the Behavior combo box , and arrow up to Always
Hide. Tab to Okay, hit Space and tab again to Okay and hit Space. This
should permenantly suppress the email notification message in the System

want to appear in the System Tray. HTH.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Rows for Tables

2009-12-04 Thread brianllee
Hello Nicole,

If your cursor is in a table then you will have two extra tabs on the ribbon.
They will be a design and a layout tab. Press Alt key and right arrow
until you are on the layout tab choice and then press tab key to move to the
bottom part of the ribbon. If you use your tab key across the bottom part of
the ribbon you will find choices for insert above, insert below, insert
right, and insert left. The insert right and left choices will add columns
to the right or left of the column that the cursor is in at the time. The
insert above and insert below will add rows above or below the row where the
cursor is at the time. There is also an insert cells choice, which will open
a dialog for you to specify where the cell should be inserted relevant to the
current cursor position. The rows and columns group also has a delete button
where you can delete a row, column, table or individual cells. After moving to
the layout taband tabbing to the lower part of the ribbon, pressing shift with
right arrow will put focus on this delete button.

Take care.

[JAWS-Users] what screen resolution do you recommend for windows 7

2009-12-04 Thread joanne
I don't really know if there is a difference in XP or Windows 7 settings
regarding screen resolution settings. I had thought that for XP Freedom
Scientific's recommended setting was 1024/768. But as there hasn't yet been
a list of recommended settings for Jaws to work optimally with Windows 7,
I'm wondering what setting some of you might have your resolution on and
what you think makes Jaws work the best. I've had other reading issues I've
asked groups about, but what concerns me now is that I must refresh my
screen every time a new message opens in Windows Live Mail. Jaws may
sometimes read the next message after one has been deleted, but more times
than not the only way to get it to read the next message is to
screen-refresh it every time. A friend who remote-connected to help me once
also said he couldn't read the screen at 1024/768, but I don't think that
selected items or checkboxes were reading correctly at 800/600. I think
there may be some type of focus issue, whether screen resolution or
something else, because the other thing Jaws will do is just start reading
everything on desktop when I go to the desktop--in other words instead of
just saying not selected and one item it starts announcing everything on the
desktop until I hit the control key. It also does this at startup, like
it's having trouble focusing in on one thing. So I'm concerned about either
screen or display settings that are perhaps not set correctly.

Any thoughts?

Re: [JAWS-Users] incerting a sd card in your pc

2009-12-04 Thread David Griffith
It probably should stick out, at least it does on my tower.
Sometimes SD Cards are not recognised in slots and the general advice then
is to take it out and try moving the write protect tag on the side of the
card up and down before putting it back in. This often fixes the problem.

You should then find your card in My Computer by pressing windows plus E. If
the card is not formatted you may be prompted to format it.

accessible but restoring was a pain.

 Subject: [JAWS-Users] carbonite.com

 Hello everyone,
I am interested in purchasing carbonite.com to back up all of my
files. I went online and read about it, and one thing I wasn't sure
of was this, I have all of my music and videos on an external drive,
will I be able to back that up with carbonite? Also, does it work
 well with jaws?
 Will I need to
purchase an account for each of my computers? Thanks for any help.

 Candy

Re: [JAWS-Users] Rows for Tables

2009-12-04 Thread Victoria Vaughan
Hi Brianlee, Is there a way to place the cursor in the middle, between the 2
columns and then read the left column with Insert Home and the right hand
column with Insert Page Up?

Many thanks! Vicky

Hello Nicole,

If your cursor is in a table then you will have two extra tabs on the
ribbon. They will be a design and a layout tab. Press Alt key and
right arrow until you are on the layout tab choice and then press tab key
to move to the bottom part of the ribbon. If you use your tab key across
the bottom part of the ribbon you will find choices for insert above,
insert below, insert right, and insert left. The insert right and
left choices will add columns to the right or left of the column that the
cursor is in at the time. The insert above and insert below will add rows
above or below the row where the cursor is at the time. There is also an
insert cells choice, which will open a dialog for you to specify where
the cell should be inserted relevant to the current cursor position. The
rows and columns group also has a delete button where you can delete a
row, column, table or individual cells. After moving to the layout taband
tabbing to the lower part of the ribbon, pressing shift with right arrow
will put focus on this delete button.

Take care.

Brian Lee

[JAWS-Users] making an inaccessible application accessible

2009-12-04 Thread Dickson Tan
Hello

I stumbed across this wonderful freeware called calibre. It manages ebook
collections can also download news articles from sites and save them as an
epub book. When I press insert + ctrl + f1, whether my mouse is over a
button or an edit field, the class is QWidget. How do I make a script to get
the handle of the window and assigning different classes (overwriting the
default one)?

Cheers

Dickson
