Re: [JAWS-Users] Adobe Flash Player Update

2010-06-12 Thread Kate
I'm not sure about others, but even when I'm able to update the flash player
with the prompt, it still won't update correctly. I need to use the
uninstall tool and install the new version from the website. I'm surprised
Adobe hasn't done something concerning accessibility with uploads, as well
as using the Flash player.

[JAWS-Users] Java Updates

2010-06-12 Thread wayne smith
Hello

I have been receiving notices that a new version of Java is available. I am
always a bit concerned with accepting these updates in case they will have
an effect on JAWS performance. Does anyone know if updating Java can cause
problems for JAWS or are they safe to download.

Thanks, in advance, for any light on the subject.

After download, navigate to the folder where you downloaded the file:
press enter to start the installation.
After install, unload Jaws (Usually Jaws will tell you that you installed
a new voice. It wil only be recognised after restarting JAWS).

Then start Jaws once again.
Go to Options > Voices > Voice adjustment ...
From the drop down list, you will see your new voice.
Make any changes or adjustments and click OK.
The voice will be active immediately.
However, you can choose to save this voice as another profile and load it
later by pressing JAWS+CTRL+S.

Hello Mike,

I don't have a copy of Word 2002 but in Word 2003 and Word 2007 the process
is pretty automatic. If you type in an Email address or web site address
Word should change it to a hyperlink. It is actually a hyperlink field.
The hyperlink can be activated by moving the cursor into the field, pressing
the application key, and using the "open hyperlink" choice in the context
menu. Insert with F7 can also be used in Word to list links and then enter
key on the link will move to the destination that the link points to.

If this is not the case with Word 2002 then first select the text that is to
be changed to a link, press CTRL+K to bring up the dialog box for specifying
the type of link to use. If the link is for a web page then be sure the
entire address is in the edit box and use tab key to a list of choices for
determining the type of link. It will likely be a choice for current file
or web page that you want to use. Use the OK button to make your text a
hyperlink. If it is an Email address then from the list of choices choose
Email instead of "current file or web page." You can also have a bookmark
in your document being pointed to by the hyperlink, in which case you would
use down arrow in the list of choices to the bookmark choice. Headings in a
document is another destination that hyperlinks can point to. When you
create a table of contents Word uses headings as contents entries and
creates links to the headings in a document.

If CTRL+K doesn't work then look for "insert hyperlink" in the insert menu.

Take care.

I remember someone looking for a guide like this one: is it not possible to
archive these useful nuggets on the Jaws-users site? I say so because some

As a matter of fact they are already archived up there and have been for
several years now. Look on the tips and tricks page for the computer tips

Selective Startup In Win7

Windows bogs down over time, burdened with all of those background
programs that load during startup. Some of those you need, but some just
take up unnecessary boot seconds and are never used during an average
Windows session. To disable unnecessary items, type msconfig in the Start
Search field, select msconfig, and go to the System Configuration
window's Startup tab. Uncheck anything that isn't useful or necessary.
Some entries are pretty cryptic and require Web searching to figure out.

[JAWS-Users] Word document question

2010-06-12 Thread Mike & Barbara
Hi All;

When I am making a Word document that contains web addresses or email
addresses, what can I do to make these links active like in an email? What
I'm wanting to do is be able to click on a web link and have it open like it
does in an email. I am running XPSP3, Office Home 2002, IE8, OE, Jaws10 /
11 latest, and a partridge in a pear tree. All help will be greatly
appreciated. Thanks much. Take care.

[JAWS-Users] Presentation and a question about remote desktop with Jaws

2010-06-12 Thread Mario
Hi, my name is Mario, I'am Italian, and this is the first time tthat I write to
this list.

In these days I'am working with the remote desktop on Windows Xp pro, and I've
noticed some problems with Jaws:

When I connect to my pc with Jaws 10 enabled from another windows xp with Jaws,
the screen readers speaks with a metallic voice and all words are truncated and
then continued when I press any key, for example: docu: pause, down arrov, than
Jaws says: ments, and then another part of the next element in the list. To
solve this issue I need to unload and reload Jaws, and then all works fine.

Then, when I disconnect using start / disconnect, and not "disconnect
administrator", when I try to use the local pc directly and not remotely I
insert the password and then find that Jaws isn't loaded, and I have to reload
it manually.

There are some solutions to these problems? why Jaws has to be reloaded and
doesn't speak automatically when I re insert the passowrd?

Thanks in advance.

A presto,

Its nothing you have done. You can blame google for that one.
They put up a way to change the background to what every you would like
or use 4 different ones of there choosing.
They really broke the google page and it made the news here of all of the
complaints about it to google. Google stated that they was going to put
back the old style until more testing went on.
