Re: [JAWS-Users] How can I set IE8 so Jaws starts off in the Webpage pane instead of title bar

2010-06-24 Thread Donald Marang
Could this be what started happening to me using JAWS 10 after updating to
the latest JAWS 11? Did FS change something in the Common software?
ever since the last JAWS 11 update I often have my focus go somewhere
strange. It occurs when opening certain websites, when my JAWS script
opens a page in a new window, and when I use Tab browsing! For instance, if
I am scanning through an RSS feed using the '2' quick navigation key, find a
headline I am interested in, then I press Control + Enter to open that link
in the background. I use this method so I can skim through all of the
headlines then read all of the articles of interst later. Now, after
activating the link, the focus goes away! I have found if I press Tab the
focus moves to the address bar. Pressing Shift + Tab will move back to the
activated link location! This is extremely annoying!

Hello Prateek,

There are a couple things you might consider. First of all, if you press
CTRL+9 you will move the focus directly to the web page. This will often
work faster than using f6 or tabbing.

You can set Internet Explorer to open in full screen mode. Choose full
screen under the view menu and then close the browser. When you open the
browser again, it will be running in full screen mode. However, I found
that when using a blank starting page the focus still went to the address
bar. When using a web page that isn't blank in full screen mode the focus
went to the body of the page as you would expect. In full screen mode you
can still access menus and use hotkeys. You can also use F11 to turn on
full screen mode.

You can run the browser in Kiosk mode. In Kiosk mode most hotkeys will
work

but you cannot access a menu bar. However, when a blank page is your
starting page, it will load as expected and not go directly to the address
bar. Use the run dialog box to use the Kiosk mode. Use Windows key+R to
bring up the run dialog box. Type in "IExplore -K" without the quotes.
If
you press enter you will be taken to your start page. If the page is
blank

there will be nothing to access. Again, you can use hotkeys to open pages
and perform other actions but you won't be able to use the menu bar.
There
is a context menu with limited choices on it when in Kiosk mode. In the
run

dialog box you can also follow the IExplore -K command with a space and a
specific address to open.

You might find that just pressing CTRL+f9 will work for what you are
wanting

to do.

Take care.

Hello.

Using Jaws 11 on both an XP as well as a Win7 PC, each time I start up IE8
(which is set to 'blank' as my home page for faster loading of IE8), type
a

URL to go to upon loading that web page the JAWS virtual PC cursor always
lands on the title bar. Then I have to tab few times to go through the
tool
bar, menu bar, the annoying bing default bar and such before I can
actually
land on the web page pane and start to read the page. How can I set
either

IE8 or JAWS11 so the virtual PC cursor lands directly on the web page pane
so I can start reading the page right away?

Hi Kimmie;

If your operating system is XP do the following to create a desktop
shortcut. This is only 1 of the different ways to do this.
1. Highlight the program you would like to create the shortcut for.
2. Press your applications / context menu key.
3. Arrow down to " Send To ", press enter or after pressing the
applications
/ context menu key, press the letter " N " until you get to " Send To "
and

press enter.
4. Now, arrow down to " Desktop Create Shortcut " and press enter.
Wham Bam, you should have a shortcut on your desktop. If you would like
to

change the way the shortcut reads or the way it is spelled, do this;
1. Highlight the shortcut.
2. Press your F2 key to open the edit field to change the way the
shortcut

reads.
3. You can delete anything in the edit field or just alter what is there,
but as long as you get it to say what you want the shortcut to be.
4. Now, that you have gotten the shortcut to read the way you want it to
display / read, press enter. You are done.
To arrange your desktop by name now that you have added a new item to it
do

the following;
1. Press Windows key + M to go to the desktop if you are not on it.
2. Make sure nothing is selected. Do this by pressing your F5 key or
pressing the control + spacebar keystroke.
3. Press your applications / context menu key.
4. Arrow to " Arrange by Icons submenu " or just press the letter " I ".
5. Arrow down to " Name " and press enter or just press the letter " N ".

Okay, you are done. I sure hope I didn't scare you away with these long
winded steps, and if I didn't scare you away, I hope they helped. LOL
Take

care.
Mike

Find Networking Tools In Windows Vista

Vista organizes all information and applications pertaining to networking in

2010-06-24 Thread Ishe Chinyoka

Hi
Try this:
1. Go to Tools in OE.
2. Arrow to Message Rules, there is a submenu.
3. Select Mail, and press Enter.
4. The first box lists all the possible conditions: pick one that best fits
the mail to be affected. For instance, all mail from this list may be best
described as "Where the To refers to Some People". Press a space bar to
highlight this condition.
5. Tab to the next group of actions: here the action refers to what OE must
do with the mail fitting the condition so chosen. From this, choose one
action, for example "Move to the Folder".

6. Tab to the next field where you get a summary of your choices:
Use your arrow keys to the line that reads the condition: press the Enter
key while the cursor is on this line. An editable field would open where you
must enter an address of people to be addressed. If you are not sure of the
addresses, you can choose to get this info from your address book. Click OK.

After installation, JAWS wil tell you that you need to restart your system.
Do so.

Hi
Try this:
1. Go to Tools in OE.
2. Arrow to Message Rules, there is a submenu.
3. Select Mail, and press Enter.
4. The first box lists all the possible conditions: pick one that best
fits the mail to be affected. For instance, all mail from this list may be
best described as "Where the To refers to Some People". Press a space bar
to highlight this condition.
5. Tab to the next group of actions: here the action refers to what OE
must do with the mail fitting the condition so chosen. From this, choose
one action, for example "Move to the Folder".

6. Tab to the next field where you get a summary of your choices:
Use your arrow keys to the line that reads the condition: press the Enter
key while the cursor is on this line. An editable field would open where
you must enter an address of people to be addressed. If you are not sure
of the addresses, you can choose to get this info from your address book.
Click OK.

Re: [JAWS-Users] MESSAGE RULES

2010-06-24 Thread Mike & Barbara
Hi Josh & Wayne;

These are for Outlook Express and I don't know if they work for Window's
Mail. When making a message rule and you choose rule 6, subject contains
specific words, what you type in rules 9 thru 11 must be exactly as they
appear in the emails you receive. Meaning if there are brackets, spaces,
some letters capitalized and some not, the entry has to be exact as the
email subject line. For example; [JAWS-Users] is exactly the way it
should look when inserting in rules 9 thru 11 if the message rule is for
Jaws-Users.
Making Message Rules

This particular instance wil automatically tell Outlook Express to place all
emails from (what you set up) into your new folder that you made.

1 make sure you have a folder in your OE list of folders called(x) the name
of your folder that you want all your emails to go into.

Here we go.

2. While in OE, hit alt T to take you to the Tools menu.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] MESSAGE RULES

JAWS Users,
I use O.E. and I am having trouble setting up a message rule that works
all
the time. I can set one up and it will move the messages that are
currently
in my inbox but after that they continue to come to my inbox rather than
the

folder that has been assigned. I go back into message rules to see about
editing the message rule but it says there is no message rule. I know I
will
be directed to the groups page but I cannot access the page as I do not
know
my password and when requesting my password I never recieve it. Can
someone
help me out with either accessing the groups page or setting up the
message

rule I am forgetting a step or something because initially it works as it
should. Thanks for any help offered. I use JAWS 10 shoudl you need this

to apply now I do this and after it says one hundred percent I escape out of
the message rule window. I go back to see if my rule is there and it
automatically opens me up in a window to create new mail. I escape out of

Hi
Try this:
1. Go to Tools in OE.
2. Arrow to Message Rules, there is a submenu.
3. Select Mail, and press Enter.
4. The first box lists all the possible conditions: pick one that best
fits the mail to be affected. For instance, all mail from this list may
be

best described as "Where the To refers to Some People".
Click OK.
Next, arrow to the line that highlights the action: while the cursor is
on

this line, press the Enter key as you did with the condition. This time,
OE will open a folder list dialog where you have to pick one folder where
those mails must be moved to. If the folders do not reflect your mood or
the way you want to mirror the subject, you can tab to "NEW..." to create
a new folder, The highlight will be placed on your newly created folder.
After this press OK.
After this step that involves so much, tab to the last field.
7. This step is optional: you are asked to give your rule a name: you can
type in any sensible name that reflects the main content of the mails you
are moving to this folder, for example "Blind computing" for mails from
this list.
Then press OK.

From now on, all mails matching your conditions will be directed to this
folder.

Re: [JAWS-Users] LAPTOP KEYS WITH JAWS

2010-06-24 Thread Deanne Miller
Some laptops have an insert key, often on the top row, second key from the
right. Also, often there is a jaws key on the bottom row, second from the
left, just to the right of the control key. If you hold down the jaws key,
the nine keys, JKL, UIO, and 7 8 9, have the number pad functions. Holding
down the caps lock key and pressing these keys performs other reading
functions. Experiment with your laptop and see what happens. Also, don't
forget about Insert plus 1, keyboard help. You might experiment with your
laptop using keyboard help and learn how it functions. That's how I learned
to use both of mine.

Jaws Users,
I have been using my Dell 1545 laptop with an external number pad. My
question to the list is what is the learning curve if I decided to do
away with the external number pad and just use the keys on the keyboard?
Is there any tutorials on this topic anywhere? I have Jaws 10 and my
windows is XP. thanks for all help offered on this matter. I thought it
best to learn this while school is out for the summer.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Voice profiles?

2010-06-24 Thread Deanne Miller

Pete:
Jaws will call it realspeak solo direct factory. If you tab, it will run
your default realspeak voice for the application you are working in. I
don't remember how to set which voice you want as your default realspeak
voice, if you want to use eloquence as well, but I know it's in the JAWS
menu. I will email you if I can figure that one out, or maybe someone else
on this list knows where to find the voice settings for choosing a default
realspeak voice without necessarily making it your default voice overall.
If you simply want to use a realspeak voice instead of eloquence, you can
set that up under the jaws menu, options, voices, select a voice profile.

One additional note to be cognizant of is some WMA files have a DRM layer
built in. If the WMA files you are looking at contain this I'm not aware of
any direct conversion option that will work. There are work arounds but it
does get to be a pain. This is one reason I stopped purchasing DRM layered
WMA files. Seems to me years ago when I was buying music from Wal-Mart
download I ran into this. Just a FYI if it applies
