Re: [JAWS-Users] changing firefox to not be default browser

2010-11-24 Thread Shari
For sure. I had always used only IE, but now seeing that Firefox can give me
access to sites IE won't handle with Jaws, I may be interested in doing more
experimenting with other browsers at somepoint.

For future reference, you may regard that whenever you install a new Web
browser, whether it warns you or not during install, it will try to be the
default browser. There is a setting (checkbox) in internet Explorer
Options, Internet Explorer should check to see if it is the default
browser; and you might want to tick that.

Hi Listers,

When I installed firefox, I didn't see an option to check to make it
my default browser. That was fine because I want IE to be the default.
Tonight, for reasons I don't understand, everytime I open a link from
any email message, firefox opens even though IE is already open. Can
someone please tell me where to check to make IE the default or what
to uncheck in firefox to keep it to only open when I choose to open
it?

Thank you,
Shari

[JAWS-Users] showing items in system tray;

2010-11-24 Thread David

This is for the windows7,

Hello there;

to show all icons in the system tray;

do the following;

1, desktop;

2, tab until you hear;
start button

3, press applications key, up arrow and enter on properties;
you will land on the start-menu page.

4, shift+tab one time you will hear;
start menu tab;

5, left arrow once you will hear,
taskbar tab;

6, now tab and enter on notification area customize button;
you will hear, okay button;

7, now tab and check the box,
Always show all icons and notifications on the taskbar
Now tab and enter on, OK
Now, of course, if you just want certain items showing in the system tray
then, steps are a little different.
Also, don't forget that windows7, has what's called a jump list,
So, if you have more then one program opened,
You can navigate to a specific program using, windows-key,+#1 2 3 etc.
depending on how many programs are opened.

I hope this helps;

Hello there;

If you would like to set your punctuation to some,
Globally,
Do the following;

1, insert+j brings up jaws,
Now if you have jaws on system tray,
Then insert+j=jaws options,
Otherwise,
You will need to press alt-key.
Right arrow to open the jaws options sub menu,
Now, down arrow and enter on,
Or right arrow to open voices sub menu.

Now, down arrow and enter on,
Voice adjustment
Now tab until you hear, voice punctuation,
Arrow to some,
Now tab and enter on,
Okay.

Hope this helps.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS not speaking at sign

I want the sign for the word at to be spoken because of a job I'm
working on. I went into both JAWS 11 and 12 and set the at sign to
speak all under the customize punctuation menu but it still isn't
being spoken. There is an edit box near there but I have tried
putting the word at in it and also the symbol for at. Any idea how I
can get it to be spoken without changing all of my punctuation to all?

Betsy! It is a desktop keyboard that I have. Sometime ago, some other
jaws-users subscriber was,
like me, being driven around the bend by this dratted wheel, and I think, got
an answer as to how it
can be killed, or, at the very least, be made less sensitive.
The little finger of my left hand, I swear doesn't touch the rotten thing, but
it, the finger, only
has to approach it which it does quite often when I am pressing keys on the
number line, and then
the cursor will, all of a sudden, have moved up a couple of lines. Just about
drives me into
insanity: not a very long journey I must admit, but a journey I am trying,
with no thanks to the
pseudo mouse, to defer for as long as is possible.

Re: [JAWS-Users] The pseudo mouse

2010-11-24 Thread Betsy Whitney, Dolphin Press
Ah, now it makes some sense to me. On my laptop, I have one of those
built-in mice. All laptops are different, but on mine I press
function key with the number 2 to turn off the mouse. I've also seen
laptops that you turn off the mouse by pressing function key with #9.
You could be wreckless like me and try different key combinations
until you get it or check your user manual. Perhaps if you tell the
list what kind of keyboard you have, someone will be able to give you
the right combination.

Good luck, Betsy

Betsy! It is a desktop keyboard that I have. Sometime ago, some
other jaws-users subscriber was,
like me, being driven around the bend by this dratted wheel, and I
think, got an answer as to how it

can be killed, or, at the very least, be made less sensitive.
The little finger of my left hand, I swear doesn't touch the rotten
thing, but it, the finger, only
has to approach it which it does quite often when I am pressing keys
on the number line, and then
the cursor will, all of a sudden, have moved up a couple of
lines. Just about drives me into
insanity: not a very long journey I must admit, but a journey I am
trying, with no thanks to the

pseudo mouse, to defer for as long as is possible.

Hi Jewel,
Are you talking about a laptop or some other equipment? I've never
seen such a little wheel in that place on a keyboard.

I believe it is also called the scroll wheel, but I have much more
colourful names for the dratted thing.
Can anyone tell me how to disable it, or, at the very least, make it
a great deal less sensitive than it is.
It is the little wheel just a centimetre to the left of the grave
key on the number line.
