Re: [JAWS-Users] excel headers
There are various ways to accomplish this. For a great explanation, download and listen to the JAWS tutorial from the JAWS Help menu (Insert + J) > Training, and select the "Column and Row Titles in Excel"tutorial. One way is to set cell names in Excel, which are stored in the Excel worksheet and work in any newer version of JAWS without configuration. This is also an advantage if sharing worksheets to other JAWS users. Place focus on the intersection of where your row and column titles meet. Hit the Applications key and select "Name a range...". Type in the word "Title", without the quotes and hit Enter. I think it might pick this up automatically, but I always double check the settings. Press Insert + V, for the "Adjust JAWS Settings". I collapse the first group by pressing Left Arrow. Then I press the Down Arrow once and press the Left Arrow again to collapse the second group. Now Arrow down through the Headings settings and verify that they are set properly. The "Read Heading Titles" should be set to "Both", and the row and column values should reflect your intersection cell. A second method is to place focus in the intersecting cell as before and go straight to the "Adjust JAWS Settings" (Insert + V). Again, go down to the third grouping and press the Spacebar to change values that need to be set. These will be stored in the Personal Settings and will be applied to this file in the future with this version of JAWS. It is not easily shared and would need to be set in each version of JAWS used. Re: [JAWS-Users] Trying to get a Power Braille 40 to workwithalaptop with only USB ports
You configure the serial settings on the USB-to-Serial adapter to match those on the printer, i.e. 19200,8,n,1 for baud rate, data bits, parity and stopbits. Match those to whatever your printer prefers. Then, you assign it to a comm port. You will see the configuration parameters if you go to device managers, ports and lpt, and look for your usb-to-serial adapter there. [JAWS-Users] daily information
Daily Tip: Can Spam One way to avoid spam is to avoid posting your email address online in forums or other public areas. Although you may think doing so is harmless, predators often scan forums for email addresses to send spam to. If you must type your email address in a blog posting or online forum, be creative. For example, instead of typing your address as myaddr...@mydomain.com, type, "myaddress at mydomain dot com." Daily Term: link rot This term refers to links on Web pages that have become outdated as the Web pages the links refer to are moved or taken down. Clicking on such a link usually results in a "This page cannot be found" message. David Ferrin Most people don't know what they're doing and a lot of them are really good at it. Re: [JAWS-Users] modifications to the web site
Hi. Wouldn't shift enter open a popup window in a new window/tab if people can't open by just pressing enter or have a popup blocker in place? i had no problems with the site when i last used it... I got a few requests to make it do that and I got a couple of others to make it stop so I took out the code that forced the auto refresh. Also I got tired of people saying that they couldn't access certain links because I have been using pop up windows so not all but some of those links have been changed. Basically everything other than the tips and tricks page and the programs page where the links indicate documentation along with the download link are now standard links. Will I ever get around to doing those things folks, to be honest I have no idea because I would need to modify over 300 HTML files. For the most part people will need to learn how to open a pop up window.
