Re: [JAWS-Users] eEudora and seven

2011-02-28 Thread tim

hmmm, here's another way to do it using the eudora options links:

turn on the taboo headers (that is remove unnecessary headers)

and to get the headers back:

when you click on the links above, just tab through the controls and
press enter on the o.k. button. eudora must be restarted for the
change to take effect.\

Re: [JAWS-Users] Silverlight in control pannel

2011-02-28 Thread Don Marang
I avoided Silverlight for a long time as well. The initial releases
provided no accessibility! The latest version of Silverlight is fairly
accessible. It can probably be fully accessible if developed properly.

Silverlight started out as Microsoft's competition to streaming media with
Flash and has grown to be an entire framework and libraries for developing
full applications within Internet Explorer. If it continues to catch on, it
may be as hard to avoid as Flash. Other than space required and even more
updates, I have not seen any issues with installing Silverlight.

I know that Netflix requires the latest Silverlight. I have heard that
the interface is much more accessible than it used to be, including hotkeys.

Before I received an answer to my question about downloading/installing

I went to my control panel and found it there. Should I totally uninstall

Re: [JAWS-Users] Excel 2007 problem

2011-02-28 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Mike,

Here is what your friend can try to remove merging from all pairs of merged
cells:

1. Select the range of cells starting with the first merged pair through
and including the last merged pair. If the range is a10 through a100 then
use CTRL+G, type in a10:a100 and press enter key.
2. Use CTRL+1 to open the Format Cells dialog box.
3. Move to the alignment page tab by using CTRL+Tab key.
4. Use tab key until the checkbox for merging cells is selected and use
spacebar to remove the checkmark. Be sure to use spacebar until JAWS says
that the checkbox is not checked. For some reason, I have had to press
spacebar a couple times to get the checkmark removed.
5. use tab key to the OK button and press enter key.
6. Move to a10 and use down arrow key to make sure that merging has been
removed.

I am not sure what caused the merging of the pairs of cells. If one pair
gets merged and then a range of cells gets selected and a function like
filling cells down the range happens then this might have been the result.

Take care.

I am asking this question on behalf of a friend.
Hi, I don't know what buttons I hit, but now I have 2 cells that when I go

This does not happen in any other column. Ideas?

I'm using Excel 2007 JAWS 9 on an XP machine.

Thank you,

  Exactly!
Mike: what I meant by hiding the update in a previous thread is what Rick
describes here.
No updates are automatically installed on my machine.
I've configured Windows Update to download updates but notify me before
installing.
This approach enables me to reject updates I don't want on my machine.
Silverlight and Windows Live Essentials 2011 etc show up under optional
updates, but by hitting the application key you have the option to hide the
update.
I've done that for both Silverlight and WLE 2011.
Then I'm sure it's not going to be installed by accident since it's not
even in the list

  Hi Gerald,
It is still an optional update from Microsoft, and if a person keeps track
of what is being installed to their machine
thru automatic updates, then there is no reason for it to get installed.
On my Win7 machine, it has been de-selected and hidden as an optional
  update.
You just have to be pro-active about what is being downloaded and
installed
to your machine, and that is why I don't
let any program use automatic updating.

[JAWS-Users] Beginner to Excel question

2011-02-28 Thread Mike & Barbara In Arcadia
Hi All;

Let me preface this by stating that I don't know sqwat about Excel but, I am
now attempting to learn. Here is my problem. When I open a, .XLS file, my
arrow keys don't work most of the time. I thought that checking the box in
the configuration manager for showing the virtual viewer on screen , might
have fixed the problem. Although, I don't have the slightest idea what
checking that box could have done! If I reboot the computer and open an,
.XLS file, then the arrow keys will work. I am running XP Home, Office 2002
Home, & Jaws10 thru 12 latest. Would someone please tell me what could be
possibly wrong to make these arrow keys not work correctly & consistently?
I am using all the default settings, except for that virtual viewer thing.
All help will be desperately appreciated / accepted. This arrow thing is
driving me up a freaking wall & Doctor Phil under his couch! Thanks much.

You might check the state of the scroll lock key. On a standard
keyboard it is between the print screen and pause break keys. Pressing
the key twice quickly will change the state and JAWS will tell you the
new state.

Hope this helps.

Thank you both for your replies.  They are greatly appreciated.  For Dixie;

are connected by a KVM switch. The ironic thing about Kurtis's suggestion
is that I use the scroll lock button to go back & forth between the 2
computers. I can't hear the state of the scroll lock key because pressing
it twice quickly is the keystroke that switches me back & forth between the
2 computers! What I did try that seems to work is, if I'm having Excel
keystroke problems on 1 of the computers, I switch over to the other
computer, then switch back & Excel keystrokes start working correctly again!
I think I will try to assign a different keystroke for the KVM switch.
Since I'm just beginning to learn Excel, all notes will be saved and again,
thank you both for your replies. Take care.
Mike
P.S. Thank you both for also saving me a trip to doctor Phil! LOL

Microsoft also requires it if you want to watch any of their videos. There
are 2 things I don't under stand with this though. First how do you get
thoughs videos to play, and well, the last time I tried it it said that it
didn't support 64 bit systems.
Is that true any more? Aren't the videos supposed to just load on their
own?Am I missing something here?

Arrianna,
Try going to the
http://www.blind-computing.com/directory.html

Under Communications, you'll find all you need to get you started
in the section:

eudora-e-mail client

There is a BlindEudora users list. It is very low traffic and
answers to questions are usually quick.

The version that I believe most of us are using is:
7.1.0.9

To join the List, send an email to:

wwith the word

To get into Contacts in Windows Live Mail, use control and the number 3.
This will take you into the list. Find the one you want to delete and press
delete. Confirm with ok and you will think it isn't done because you will
think you are supposed to do ok again. Do not do this. Choose Cancel to end
the operation. It is set up in such a way that once you begin, you could
continue and not be hearing what you were deleting. To return to your list
of messages, press control and the number 1. I hope this helps.
