Alan,
Sounds like you are using a template with double line spacing.
The short answer is to select a Style for single lines.
Unfortunately i can't tell you where that is on the stupid ribbon but in
Word 2003 it's in the Format Menu, under Styles and Formatting..

2011-06-07 Thread Van Der Walt Riana
Hello,

You don't have to copy settings if you still have the previous jaws
version from which you wish to transfer settings on the same computer.

Just go to the jaws contextual menus, choose utilities and thereunder,
enter on merge settings.

All settings, regarding eloquence in any event, will be migrated to the
current version.

Riana

This continues to work. What you need in addition to this it to copy the

VoiceProfiles.INI file. It's located in
systemdrive:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Freedom
Scientific\JAWS\jaws version\Settings
or in other words, just one levil above the enu folder or your language
folder.

Hi, In older versions of JAWS I could copy my settings by going to
start
menu JAWS Explore my settings and paste them into a different
machine
and I wouldn't have to mess around with adjusting the rate of speech
etc.
In v12 and v11, I am not sure if the settings are being copied
correctly
as the speech rate doesn't change when I paste the settings into a
different machine and also any of the other settinsg don't seem to
change
like echo character s / words etc.

Does this method no longer work for carrying around your settings with

 you?

Straight from the jaws lab: Text Analyzer
When editing a document using speech only, inconsistencies such as unmatched
parentheses, unintentional format changes, extra whitespace, and stray or
unspaced punctuation can often be missed. The new Text Analyzer feature is a
tool that notifies you of these errors in your document by using a spoken
message or WAV file. You can configure JAWS to announce discrepancies by
count, by description, or by sound while proofreading the document by line,
sentence, paragraph, or Say All command. Braille users will benefit from
this since a sound can be emitted before the user has time to read the
 entire line looking for errors.

Text Analyzer is off by default. To turn it on, do one of the following:

Use the new layered keystroke, INSERT+SPACEBAR, T. By pressing and releasing
INSERT+SPACEBAR, and then pressing T, the Text Analyzer can be toggled on or
 off.
Use the Adjust JAWS Options dialog box (INSERT+V) to select Text Analyzer,
and then select the type of alert notification to use.
Use Settings Center. Press INSERT+F2 and select Settings Center. In the
Search edit box, type Text Analyzer, press DOWN ARROW to move to Text
Analyzer in the filtered results, and press SPACEBAR to select an alert
 notification.
If multiple issues are identified in the document, press ALT+WINDOWS Key+I
to move to the next item, or ALT+SHIFT+WINDOWS Key+I to move to the previous
item. Note that these keystrokes can still be used even if Text Analyzer is
 off.

HI Alan,

I don't know if this will work with the version of Word you are running but,
you can try the following. These are shortcut keystrokes from Word 2002
2003.;

After you have finished the document.
1. Control A to select the entire document;
2. Control + 1, on the number row above the main keyboard,to make the
document single spaced;
3. Control s to save the document.

You can also try pressing, control +1, before you start typing the document.

Hope this helps. Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] facebook help

2011-06-07 Thread priyanka agarwal
Hi All,
I am using jaws 11 with facebook and I dont find any problem with it
I can suggest that go to jaws-users.com and then go to link audio
there you will see tutorial for facebook I have not seen the tutorial
and cant comment on which version of jaws it has been designed for?
I have not used jaws 7.0 in my life so I really dont know about the
short cuts used if the navigation method is same as jaws 9.0 or jaws
11.0 then the following step should help and the steps I am
mentioning here are for jaws 9 or 11 with windows 7 o.s
1. the facebook is home page is divided into 3 parts
2. by pressing ALT+1 will take you to your home page from anywhere in
the application
ALT+2will take u inside your own profile ALT+5will take u to your
notifications ie, this is a place where you can see your updates for
eg: if someone have commented on your photo or your status and so onu
can use your internett navigation keys here as you use anywhere . in
the status field u can write anything or pressing will say whats
on your mindedit then you can write here
for more details I am always there to help you
you can contact me anytime at priyankakool...@gmail.com
I hope this would be of some help to someone
please mark that whatever I have explained above I use
www.facebook.com and not the m.facebook.com

Re: [JAWS-Users] Itunes and JAWS

2011-06-07 Thread Steve

Briefly, you need to have your iTunes account set up first.

If you do, when iTunes opens, arrow down to Store.

Tab a number of times until you get to the apps buttun and press enter.

Now, you can go back to the search field and type in an application you are
looking for, for example, Skype. Hit enter. You will in a few seconds
hear a whoosh sound. Press the f6 key to navigate to the store pane. You
can use the Jaws level 2 heading command to find the heading that says
iPhone Apps, and then you will see the different apps that are for Skype.
In some cases, if you type a general term like cooking you will have many
more apps than show up on the initial page. Right under the heading is a
link that says view all apps which will sow all of the relevant ones.

Hth,
Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Hi Kimsan,

What you are wanting to do is widen your columns,
at least that is what they are called in Outlook Express.
In Outlook Express columns are found in the View menu.

If it works the same in Outlook, after you find the columns submenu,
highlight the column you would like to widen, press alt + W, backspace out
the current number,
type in something like 400, that is what I have my subject line set at,
  tab to okay press enter.
Pressing enter will take you out of the menues. You will have to repeat
this process for each column you want to widen, if Outlook works anything
like Outlook Express.

  Hope this helps. Take care.

[JAWS-Users] How do I set my Normal Template?

2011-06-07 Thread Alan Dicey

Dear Priyanka and Friends,
Thank you all so much for your help, I got it!
The single line spacing is correct!

But now I need to set my Normal Template to have this work with all the
documents I create.
Plus, right now, the font is not what I want, so after I change, how do I
make that my Default or Normal Template?

I called Freedom Scientific and they told me my problem was a Office 2007
situation and the standard setting as Office 2007 came was double spacing!!

And a 11 point size, plus a weird font!
LOL!
Sounds like Microsoft!
Well, I got the spacing down, but now need to set my Point size and I did,
and my font, which I did, but how do I make that my Normal Template?

Thanks for all your assistance!

Hi Alan,
As you have mentioned about the line spacing in word 2007 using jaws
11 is very simple what you have to do is as follows
1. press Alt key to go to ribbon tool bar
2. now go to home tab option by pressing right or left arrow by
default home tab is the first option on the tool bar
3. now press down arrow and u will start hearing options and now you
can use right or left arrows to navigate
4. now you will hear paragraph group box in this you will find the
line spacing option and when you press enter on this option of line
spacing you will get lot of other options like spacing before
paragraph or after and so on
now you can choose your suitable option and move on
you can fuind styles menu in home tab itself.
iI beg your pardon if I have explained anything wrong or in an
unclear manner. My intention was to help you .

Alan,
Sounds like you are using a template with double line spacing.
The short answer is to select a Style for single lines.
Unfortunately i can't tell you where that is on the stupid ribbon but

in

Word 2003 it's in the Format Menu, under Styles and Formatting..

Thank you, David. I tried using the site David sent out for installing the
new Adobe for Windows 7 64 bit for I.E.9, Yes, it is now in my control
panel/programs but does not work on a site where it used to work with I.E.8.
I think I missed something. Is it on this list of applications? If so, what
is it's name. Also, once I check it, how do I get to install it? Hope I'm
making sense.
Just by some luck, I found that I still have I.E.8 in my laptop and
everything works fine when I use that.

Re: [JAWS-Users] a slick method for installing applications

2011-06-07 Thread LaMcAs
Hi

On the http://ninite.com site Adobe Reader is just called Reader - I don't
know why the webmaster has just labelled it as such doesn't give it it's new
name.

The site does not include any of the Windows Updates as they are readily
available through windows. I guess he gives the other browsers as he is
aware that some people prefer on of them instead of IE. Also with IE it is
probably left up to Windows Update to determine the correct version of IE
because as you know IE9 will only run on Vista and above.

Hope that helps a little.

[JAWS-Users] Blindtunes question

2011-06-07 Thread Jorge Paez
Hi all:
I'm running win7 on a 64 bit machine and have had a problem when iTUnes 10
latest version was open that any key I pressed, iTunes reacted very slowly, as
did JFW.

Do you think Blindtunes can fix this issue?
Or is it something to do with my machine?

Thanks,

Jorge

Open the key map by pressing ctrl+win+k and find Dismiss Buffer. Press
Edit and change the key combination to whatever you can apply from
your laptop, and press OK to finish editing, then press OK to to close
key map.

You are good to go then.

Don't the control keys work for line spacing still in Word 2007? Control-2
for double and control-1 for single line spacing.

Hi Alan,
As you have mentioned about the line spacing in word 2007 using jaws

Dear Alan,

You can change the way lines are indicated via the text processing
option under the jaws configuration menu from within a word document
with jaws 11.

Just press jaws key together with the number 6, then alt s, then arrow
to text processing where you enter and go through the options. There
are at least three different options relating to line indication in jaws
11.

Choose and save your settings.

Riana

Dear Glen,
You got that right!
Stupid ribbon!
Yes indeed!

Well, thanks anyway!
I still think JAWS should speak the blank extra line!

Alan,
Sounds like you are using a template with double line spacing.
The short answer is to select a Style for single lines.
Unfortunately i can't tell you where that is on the stupid ribbon but

in

Word 2003 it's in the Format Menu, under Styles and Formatting..

I had the good luck to have some one see it on my screen before I

it out!.

Why did JAWS just ignore the double spacing?

It took me some time with those $#** Ribbons to find out how to make

my

line single spacing again, but why did JAWS not say Blank or

something?

Is this a Bug in JAWS with Word 2007?

I mean, I never had this problem when I was using JAWS 11 with Word

Thanks for any comments or suggestions on how to prevent this from
happening again.
