[JAWS-Users] protected mode in IE 8-9 with JAWS
hi all, I've faced this issue since I was on IE 8. while most of the pages read fine in IE8, some of them would just not read. no matter what I did. later I realised that in all the pages where the protected mode was off jaws would not read anything while the once where it was on, it read everything. now on IE9, while reading the status bar JAWS doesn't announce whether the protected mode is on or off but the same happens even now. if I copy paste the same address in firefox everything's read fine. any ideas? some such pages are the pages that Secunia personal edition takes for downloading the newer versions of the softwares the pages where CCleaners takes to download the latest updates of CCleaner. help please? Re: [JAWS-Users] protected mode in IE 8-9 with JAWS
Hi Volly, Try the following. These steps are for AdobeX / 10. the latest version is Adobe Reader X. You need to disable protected view first to get it to work well with Jaws. Do the following: 1. From either your desktop or start menu, press enter on Adobe. The Adobe window is now open, press control + K, to open preferences. Another way to get to preferences is after pressing enter on the Adobe shortcut, press Alt + E, for the edit menu, arrow up to preferences, press enter. 3. When preferences opens you will be in a tree view and should be on the General page, if not arrow up or down until you have General highlighted. It is #4 of 29. Tab until you find a checkbox called enable protected mode at startup, uncheck it, choose yes on the warning you will get to continue. You need to look at 2 more settings so, tab until you have General highlighted again. 4. With General highlighted, press the letter I, until you have Internet highlighted. 5. Tab to, Display PDF in browser, if this box is checked press the spacebar to uncheck it. 6. Tab to connection speed combobox, arrow up / down for the setting that best matches your Internet Providers speed. 7. Tab to the okay button, press enter to close preferences save your changes, press Alt + F4 to close Adobe. If I have missed something or if there is something that should be added, would someone please jump in correct me?! Hope this helps. Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] using a brailleNote MPower with jaws 12
Yeah, it figures. FS introduced a driver sign-in initiative which meant that in future - for Windows Vista and upwards - braille display and/or note-taker developers would have to pay a subscription in order to have JAWS support their drivers. Humanware have now apparently signed up (or has reached agreement with FS about this), although I don't know whether the braillenote mPower is now included. May be better to check out Humanware, www.humanware.com - see if they can offer driver support for the braillenote with JAWS and windows, or enlightenment on what else to do if perchance they don't. - Original Message - From: Andrew Head ath...@bigpond.net.au To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Saturday, September 10, 2011 2:02 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] using a brailleNote MPower with jaws 12 Windows 7 pro, jaws 12 pro, BrailleNote Mpower BT running Keysoft version 7.2 build 47 Always forget to put that in for some reason sorry Hope this helps *smile* Have a blessed day, Andrew -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Flor Lynch Sent: Friday, 9 September 2011 11:45 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] using a brailleNote MPower with jaws 12 What OS are you using? - Original Message - From: Andrew Head ath...@bigpond.net.au To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Friday, September 09, 2011 2:16 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] using a brailleNote MPower with jaws 12 Hi all, just wondering am I able to set up my brailleNote MPower with jaws to use it as a braille display? Re: [JAWS-Users] protected mode in IE 8-9 with JAWS
Hello Bharat, First of all, Microsoft stopped showing the status of the protection mode and security zones on the status bar in Internet Explorer 9. The only thing now showing is the zoom level. The bar should probably be renamed to something like the Zoom bar. You can still get the security zone and protection status by going under the tools menu with Alt+T, pressing O for Options, and using CTRL+Tab key one time to the security settings. Use tab key across the page of the dialog and you will find the security zone and level, and a checkbox that will show if protected mode is on or off. I am using 64-bit Windows 7, JAWS 12, and CCleaner 64-bit version. If you use the Update button in CCleaner, the resulting page will not show correctly with JAWS. If virtual cursor is on then there is nothing announced as you use up and down arrow keys and the tab key. If you turn off virtual cursor using JAWS key Z, you can at least tab to the links. However, going to the target of the link still doesn't improve anything. As you noted, if you copy the address from the address bar and open it in Firefox the pages work correctly with JAWS using the virtual cursor. It also works if you open a separate instance of Internet Explorer and paste the address to the address bar. You might consider either getting CCleaner updated by using Ninite or download the latest version from www.filehippo.com On the file hippo site CCleaner is listed as a popular download under the second heading on the page. Follow the link for CCleaner and on the resulting page use the link for downloading the latest version. What appears to be happening is that the CCleaner updating button in the interface activates a different executable than what is used for the normal Internet Explorer 9 session. If you use JAWS key with Q after the page loads when using the updating button in CCleaner, JAWS will say that it is using Internet Explorer 0 settings and IExplore.exe for the executable. If you load a normal session of Internet Explorer and use JAWS key Q, you will be told by JAWS that Internet Explorer 9 is active and IEFrame.dll is being used. The JAWS scripts that work with Internet Explorer 9 and IEFrame.DLL are not being used when the browser is being recognized as Internet Explorer 0 and using a different executable. I am not sure if this is a JAWS problem, a CCleaner problem or if it has to do with the 64-bit version of CCleaner. I haven't tried it with Firefox as the browser to launch by default. Take care.
