Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail

2011-11-22 Thread David Bailes
Hi Vicky,
To send an email to one or more of your contacts from the contacts folder, and
using windows mail:

1. In your Contacts folder, select one or more contacts.
2. Open their context menu, then open the Action sub-menu (access key A), and
then press Enter to choose the first menu item which is Send E-mail.
3. A New Message window opens. The one or more contacts are already entered in
the To edit box, and the focus is at the end of this edit box.

More info about windows mail can be found in this guide to windows mail for
jaws users:
http://vip.chowo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/jaws/Windows-Mail-Guide.html
David.

original message:
Hi Mike, I just found out, that if I use the Right Arrow after useing
Control+Shift+C, that I can read all the addresses that I thought I'd lost.
However, pressing Enter on a name there, takes me into the Properties rather
than filling in the To field
How do you select a name and start a new email? Thanks! Vicky

Well, in the UK and Ireland our right alt key is given the alt-gr, or
control + alt keys put together in one, functionality, which often forms
the basis for accented letters. The left alt key by itself is then
absolutely necessary.

That was the first thing I checked. It is set to Desktop :). I'm in
no hurry to reinstall. I did try a different keyboard as well but it
does same. I found out today however, that left alt key does work
with the ctrl alt page up/down to change speech rate on the fly. I
don't have any other adaptable software running other than Qwitter
which I unloded thinking some strange key assignment came into play.
I don't have any alternative scripts other than Skype scripts, but I
had those on an older machine with no issue/conflict.

situation I've tried, plus this: if you go into help mode with
insert 1,
and press Insert + rightAlt key + down arrow, Jaws help tells you
it will
read in an alternative voice. If however, you press insert +
leftAlt +
down arrow, it says nothing. Conversely, if you press insert, +
either
right or left alt key, + s key for instance, the result is the
same,
gives you the voice profile box, or help if in help mode. So it
appears
it is a Jaws issue specific to that hot key combination somehow
rather
than a keyboard or settings issue. I'd not found it an issue
anywhere
else. I can live with it, but yes maybe down the road if I get
some time,
I'll save my settings somewhere and un-, re-install Jaws and see if
that

helps. Appreciate your taking some idea swings at it though.

Ok mystery solved but still weird. I've always used the left alt
key for
this combination, I'd be curious what you use. Jaws is not
recognizing
the left alt key in these key combos. The alt key works by itself
and
with other non-Jaws key combination hot keys I've set up for apps
and
such, but it will not work for this or other Jaws features. It
does work
with the right alt key. Additionally I do not have differentiate
between
left and right paired keys set in the settings manager so it
ought not

make a difference.

2011-11-22 Thread Brad Dunse'
Thanks yes that would work. I can stil use the Insert+RightALT
+DownArrow key combo for the alternative voice as I need it, it isn't
so much a user inconvenience issue though I'd prefer the LeftAlt key
to work, it is more trying to find out why the alt key isn't working
in that situation. I may run into other issues if there's a bad
install or the like. It is interesting after the ctrl+f to find
specific keystroke in the directions you noted, if I try typing
LeftAlt+Insert+DownArrow there, it will say nothing for the first few
tries, then after a few tries will say Alt Down Arrow with it now
missing the Insert Key. Very strange. The RightAlt+Insert+DownArrow
shows up fine as would be expected. It's acting like a keyboard
issue, yet outside of Jaws there doesn't seem to be an issue. At this
point I'll use the RightAlt key for alternative voice reading and
just keep watch of any other strange non-working key combo
situations. I'm soon to purchase a mechanical keyboard, perhaps,
though I doubt it, that willl help :).

Then try changing the keystroke in keyboard manager.
1. press insert+8 from keyboard row. Keyboard manager will open.
2. press ctrl+shift+d to open the default file.
3. press tab to go in the list of keystrokes.
4. press ctrl+f to find specific keystroke.
5. Press the keystroke that works for you to read with alternate
voice and press enter.

6. When it finds it press ctrl+a to change it.
7. Press the keystroke you want from now on and press enter.
Hope this helps.

 Hi All,

Jaws 13, windows XP home. After installing jaws 13 from the DVD and
 setting
it to load up on start-up I rebooted the computer and it won't load
 up.
Tried restarting a couple of times but it fails to start. However, if
 I then
do the jaws unload keystrokes of alt + F4 followed by enter and use
 the
keys, control + Alt + J it will load up. It acts like jaws is loaded
 but
just not talking. I uninstalled then reinstalled from the download
 package
on the FS web site but still the same behaviour.

Anyone seen this before or have any ideas as to why it would act like
 this.

 Many thanks,

 Paul.

[JAWS-Users] Excel 2010-Jaws 13-Cell border info

2011-11-22 Thread Brad Dunse'
Is anyone else having the below issue? I am running Win 7 64 bit, the

Pressing Alt Shift B to get the cell border status, that is, to tell
you which sides have what kind of border on which sides. It only
reads: Black surrounding border of active cell no matter if a
border exists or not. I had contacted tech support but didn't get
anywhere other than they'll look into it which was probably a month a
go or more. I wondered if anyone else had this issue and found a
solution? End of the year is coming and time to revamp some business
reports. At this point I'll be looking at redownloading V11 and
hope it gives me the feedback on this machine.

Hi,

The thing is that jaws seems to be loading because if I do the jaws key +
F4 key I get an OK button. When I press enter on the OK button and reload
jaws it works fine.

Paul.

I know that on my machine, when I make adjustments to the msconfig be it
unchecking active sync or quicktime or some other program that gets turned
on for whatever reason, the Start Jaws automatically check box in the
options/basic menu gets unchecked.

Have you checked to see that your start Jaws automatically check box isn't
getting unchecked for some odd reason?

Paul.

If you are getting a new iPhone, you really do not need to deal with
iTunes on the PC, unless you want to transfer content on your PC to the
iPhone, i. e. music, etc. There is an iTunes and App Store app on the
phone itself that you can use to purchase and download content and apps
directly to your phone, and even software updates can be done directly.
The new or updated iPhone gives you access to a new service called
iCloud, which allows you to store content and backups on cloud servers,
again making the use of a PC unnecessary.
But back to topic, JAWS plays well with iTunes if you want to go that
route. There are paid script packages, namely JTUNES, and a free
package called Blindtunes, which make working with iTunes easier, but
are not necessary.

For best results you need a fast PC with a lot of RAM. If you want to

As far as the use of iTunes for use with the iPhone. You can do all, read nice.
The part that may need script help is the store part.
I run my iPod and phone off the PC side.
One way to keep up its speed is not to have the library file on your

Re: [JAWS-Users] spreadsheet similar to excel

2011-11-22 Thread Don Marang
The only Excel replacements I know of are Libre Office or Open Office
Calc. Both are free, Open Source applications for many platforms. I
use it on Vinux, where the orca screen reader works well with Libre Office.

I attempted to use Libre Office Calc on Windows 7. I could not read the
contents of a cell with JAWS. Perhaps this is just because it is a Java
application and I have not reinstalled the Java Access Bridge each time
I updated Java.

Margaret, Elf is right as usual.
Now, Nextup insists that you buy both the Text Aloud program and it comes
in a package with a couple of voices.

Sorry about that.
I did purchase Text Aloud because it has some nice file splitting
capabilities and it will convert an entire folder of files to mp3
without fuss.

I like that a lot.

apparently now you do, arg, I haven't been there for quite a long time,
they introduced a Scottish accented voice which wasn't great, but wasn't
too bad, and that was the last time I looked for the ATT voices!

text aloud is a nice little application, sort of a notepad plus with the
ability to automatically turn a text document into a audio MP3 file

but it does make it more expensive, blast it, I finally found a female
voice I'd like to use as my main voice for my computer, there 16 Hz
crystal, and I need buy TA to get it, urg, ok well time to start saving
again!

good luck,

I heard back and was referred to

www.nextup.com

I found the voice I want, but am confused. Does one have to purchase
Text

Aloud in addition to the A TT Natural Voice just to get the voice?

Thanks,

I found an A TT Natural voice I like and a couple of Ivona ones. The
Ivona ones seem straight forward to add to cart, but I followed the link
to purchase the A TT one and got lost. The way I'm reading the page,
Wizzard Software Corp. handles sales and I just sent them an e-mail.
While I'm waiting to hear back can the Mike voice really be $295.00?

Thanks,

Margaret

Hi Margaret,
It is possible to download voices that will work with jaws 12 and 13
from

Freedom Scientific, itself.
There are several offered by a company called Real Speak Solo Direct.
Once you have acquired some of those voices, you can configure Jaws 12
or

13 to operate, using that synthesizer rather than Eloquence.
There are also several voices called SAPI 5 which offer quite a variety
of different people to choose from. Some, like Samantha for example,
have
that sharp clear sound you might be looking for.

thank you, I have been using 2002 and a few days ago it started to act up.
Jaws would not let me copy and paste and when I went to close it wanted to
replace the protected template files. I purchased the 3 install version so I
can also put on my grandson's computer.

Office 2010 works fine for me other than the cell border status I
mentioned earlier. Other than that seems fine. I did notice as well
the F4 key, which use to do a repeat of your last activity such
as delete a row or column does not work as it had. I'll be putting
it through it's paces in a month or so myself :).

2011-11-22 Thread John R Vaughn
I have purchased the business office 2010 so I could get the Outlook program
in addition to excel and word and it works just fine.
Today, I sat in on a free webinar from FS on office 2010 and that is helping
me understand the working of office 2010 with word, excel and outlook.
The materials they send you to have to help you remember what you are taught
and have learned are excellent. Jaws handles this program very nicely.
I will spend the $30 each for the webinar training for each specific program
including word, excel and outlook. I know this will save me a lot of time.
