from what I am told, the security is much better with 9 than with 8,
so you know there are ways to make 9 look/work more like 8 if you wish, send
me a note off line and I'll pass them along if you want them.

Hi All, I am running jaws 13 on my windows home premium 64 bit machine. I
just installed IE 9 on my computer, and really I don't see the advantage
 of
it. Frankly, I like the way downloads worked better in IE 8. So, what is
 the
big deal about IE 9? What am I missing? Jim

[JAWS-Users] daily term

2012-01-30 Thread David Ferrin
Daily Term:
Stealth Technology

Often used in addition to polymorphic techniques to enable a virus to hide
within a computer’s OS (operating system) and remain undetected by antivirus
software. By intercepting routines used by an OS to find infected files and
documents, the stealth virus then inserts some of its code into uninfected
data, tricking the computer into recognizing the file as the original,
unmodified version.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Freedom Scientific Reader

2012-01-30 Thread Joni Colver

Miriam, I have not worked with FS Reader before.

You can try this to see if you can get it on the desktop. If you have a
daisy file on your computer and enter on it I think it would probably just
open in FS Reader though.

You can open the search box with the Windows key and type fs reader. When
it shows, hit the applications key, to the left of the right control key,
and arrow to send to submenu. Arrow through that to shortcut to desktop and
enter. There will then be a shortcut to it on your desktop. As I said
though, it may be easier to just enter on the file you want to read since
the program should then open. FS Reader should have installed by default
when you installed JAWS 13.

Sorry, but I am not very good at giving step-by-step instructions. Maybe
someone else who is will help you better.

[JAWS-Users] converting and ripping DVD's to MKV?

Okay, I have googled this, and haven't found very many accessible programs.
So does anyone know of a jaws accessible program that can rip DVD's in to

[JAWS-Users] Web meeting software accessible to JFW

2012-01-30 Thread Dujari, Prateek
Hello.

Win7, JFW13.

I need to know of a software where the person on the other end can see my
screen while over the phone they speak to me. Text Chat not required. I'd be
navigating around on web pages which they will need to see.
I tried 'go to meeting' but the prelim dialogs that open up including the usual
windows security dialog box asking me to run or not run all became inaccessible
to JFW. So this software is not an option.
Pl suggest others where all the setup dialogs and windows are accessible in
order to commence with my web meeting.
Thx much!

Re: [JAWS-Users] Web meeting software accessible to JFW

2012-01-30 Thread Bissett, Tom
Webex can be made to do what you need. It is a browser based program. It is
not exactly user friendly but once you locate the button to share out your
screen then it is accessable. This button is not recognized by jaws at all, at
least not with jaws 10 but it located just to the left of the minimize button
at the top of the screen. I found by right clicking in that area you could
get the menu to come up. Then you should be good to go using the arrow keys.
You will have some options e.g. sharing out your screen or giving full control.
You only need to search for this mysterious button once persession so it isn't
that big of deal.
Logging in is a standered web login page and should not give you any trouble.

A stupid answer. It is Matroska format, which is an open-source video
format that supports audio and subtitles. That's what I recall, anyway.
You can play .mkv files using VLC player, otherwise, you have to download a
special codec for it.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

The below freeware suite is awesome and totally accessible to convert between
all video file formats and to extract mp3 audio from video files.

I never bothered to look for software to convert DVD to another video format as
that is pretty irrelevant to a blind person. I do use DVD Audio Extractor all
the time to rip audio mp3 off movie DVD's though.ish

[JAWS-Users] outlook 2010 losing the ability to display messages in internet explorer

2012-01-30 Thread André van Deventer
Mornings all

If this topic is not quite correct for the jaws list I apologise in advance
but I am not sure what the problem is here.

For some inexplicable reason, since yesterday, when I try to display
messages in outlook in internet explorer by using alt-h, a and v, it simply
reverts back to the original message and does not open it in internet
explorer. This worked perfectly until yesterday and I did not do anything
to change things!

Can someone help here?

Using Jaws 13 on a windows XP machine with outlook 2010.

Andre
