[JAWS-Users] daily term

2012-02-24 Thread David Ferrin
Daily Term:
strained silicon

A process developed by IBM and announced in June 2001 whereby a microchip's
silicon is stretched so that the atoms that make up the silicon are aligned.
This results in silicon with rows of aligned atoms, which lets electrons
flow at speeds up to 70% faster than nonstretched (or nonstrained) silicon.
This, in turn, enables the microchips that use strained silicon to operate
up to 35% faster than ordinary microchips.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Multiple Selection in A List Box Problems

2012-02-24 Thread Ryan West

Hello Joy,

I think maybe what is happening is that jaws activates the list box when you
enter it and then if you pressed the space bar it deactivates the list box
so if you try all the steps without the first step of pressing the space
bar it may work. Good luck, hope this helps.

Or, maybe it's some type of malware/spyware?
Most likely you can uninstall if it's a program.
Did you do a google search to asertaine if it's a ligitament program?

Using Office 2010, but I suspect the procedure is the same to do this: press
alt+t, then o for the old-fashioned keystroke, or press alt+f and arrow to

you arrowed to it, press enter. In the resulting list of categories, arrow
to Proofing, then tab. Now, press alt+c dor tab to Custom Dictionaries and
press space. Finally tab to Edit Word List and press enter.

The other way to do it in WLM is control shift c for contact which used to

All I can say is give these a ttry and see if it leads you correctly or will

Ann, Flor elf

Thanks to all of you the problem is solved. I am not sure exactly what
fixed it, but I will explain what I did by making notes within your
instructions. Your instructions will be followed by my comments starting
***DCM. Thanks to all.

Dave

Flor :
Another thing you might put on the list is, that the Normal.dot (Word
Template) file might have become corrupted. In that case, deleting the
normal.dot file (with Microsoft Word closed) will fix it, as the next
time you open word it will replace with a fresh normal.dot .

***DCM - I did that first.

Elf:
one thing I would do is go to the start menu shortcuts, hit the apps key
on

the application link, open the properties dialog, and in the box where it
says run: combo box arrow down to maximized and try opening it and
reading something this way.
***DCM This was the second thing I did. I then restarted the computer
and
opened a document. For the first time I was able to get to the menus
with

the PC cursor. I did Ann's checklist including switching from Print mode
to normal.

Ann:
I'm guessing you have tried everything on the list, but just in case ...

1. Is the application maximized?
***DCM Yes

2. Is the document maximized?
***DCM Yes

3. Is the zoom set to 75% or thereabouts?
***DCM Yes

4. is the font a reasonable size?
***DCM Times New Roman 12

5. Is the font something JAWS can read easily?
***DCM Times New Roman 12

6. What does the status line say?
***DCM Didn't look, it was working.

7 If you select-all, copy, paste the document into either Wordpad,
Notepad, or into Word, can you then read it?
***DCM Didn't have to, it was working.

Be sure that view is set to normal. I think alt-control-n will do

This problem may be connected with my problem with reading the headers
