Yes it is worth it, get yourself signed up. I have attached to this a guide

way I found is to go to m.facebook.com although you need to set your

Good luck and have fun!

That is a toggle in jaws. If it was done in the volume controls. Then
you will need sight.

Hi! Can someone tell me if there is a way to unmute jaws when I muted it.
I am using Jaws version 13, and when I do insert F11 it takes me to the
system tray. I think I go down 7 times until i get to volume control and
hit enter there. Then I tab through the list and i notice it says "Mute for
Jaws to activate hit space bar, and when I hit space bar, I know that jaws
is muted. But is there a way to get jaws unmuted when I have hit the space
bar to unmute it. I muted Jaws one time by hitting the space bar, and then
restarted my computer, and I would have hoped that jaws would have come back
on after booting up but it didn't, and the worst ghing is I had to call a
sighted person to help me get Jaws unmuted. I wish there was a way to

Hit insert-6 for Jaws settings dialog.

Search for Key labels.

Press spacebar on the manage key labels that comes up in your results.

In the list of 84 options, type T for tab. Tab to the speak/mute button
and press spacebar to change it to mute. Tab to Ok to save it.

You can change this for each application or if you hit control-shift-D
when you bring up the settings search with insert-6, you can change the
behavior for all applicatiions.

Hth,
Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Plese. there was no problem with the soundcards or the driver. It was
total Recorder that set itself as the widnows default sound device and
since it did not close properly, did not undo this change. therefore
the sound devices got jumbled up. This should not have been a problem,
however, as jaws was set to use my external hardware synthesizer. You
may not go back long enough to remember hardware synthesizers. This is
not just an external soundcard but is a hardwaredevice on its own that
does not show up under windows's sound devices and under the NT track
of windows, no driver is actually loaded under windows but the
screenreader that is to be used with the hardware synthesizer needs to
come wiht a driver for it. Jaws does have this driver; nvda does not.
Since jaws was set to use the hardware synthesizer, any confusion or
driver issues with windows sound devices should not have impacted
jaws's starting properly using the hardware synth.

Hardware synthesizers are legacy hardware devices. Other, and maybe
more familiar hardware synthesizers, are the DECTAlk synths (not to be
confused with Access 32 or the recent DECTAlk reader software),
Doubletalk, Tripletalk, etc.

[JAWS-Users] playing you tube files?

2012-03-17 Thread Lisa D. Porter

Hi all,
I can play these files with no problem and don't recall having to do
anything to do this. I use Firefox for my browser. My best friend uses
IE and she can't play them at all. I also tried this in IE and I
couldn't play them. Is there some sort of add on I need to get to be
able to play them or that she needs to get to be able to play them?
Thanks for all the neat shortcuts and info about this player. Now, if
only Adobe would get more user friendly.

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and the tabkey

2012-03-17 Thread Steve

Hit insert-6 for Jaws settings dialog.

Search for Key labels.

Press spacebar on the manage key labels that comes up in your results.

In the list of 84 options, type T for tab. Tab to the speak/mute button and
press spacebar to change it to mute. Tab to Ok to save it.

You can change this for each application or if you hit control-shift-D when
you bring up the settings search with insert-6, you can change the behavior
for all applicatiions.

Hth,
Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Audio Device Confusion

2012-03-17 Thread Doris and Chris
Plese. there was no problem with the soundcards or the driver. It was
total Recorder that set itself as the widnows default sound device
and since it did not close properly, did not undo this change.
therefore the sound devices got jumbled up. This should not have been
a problem, however, as jaws was set to use my external hardware
synthesizer. You may not go back long enough to remember hardware
synthesizers. This is not just an external soundcard but is a
hardwaredevice on its own that does not show up under windows's sound
devices and under the NT track of windows, no driver is actually
loaded under windows but the screenreader that is to be used with the
hardware synthesizer needs to come wiht a driver for it. Jaws does
have this driver; nvda does not. Since jaws was set to use the
hardware synthesizer, any confusion or driver issues with windows
sound devices should not have impacted jaws's starting properly using
the hardware synth.

Hardware synthesizers are legacy hardware devices. Other, and maybe
more familiar hardware synthesizers, are the DECTAlk synths (not to
be confused with Access 32 or the recent DECTAlk reader software),
Doubletalk, Tripletalk, etc.

[JAWS-Users] Audio Device Confusion

2012-03-17 Thread Doris and Chris

I ran into a jaws error here that surprised me.

I had been recording an audio stream with Total Recorder when I got a
blue screen with a dcm error and had to do a hard reset to restart my box.

When the machine came up, the audio devices were all jumbled up. This
came as no surprise as this will happen when Total Recorder crashes
and does not close down properly but stays set as the default audio device.

jaws did not load completely when the computer came back up and this
did surprise me as I had had jaws running with my 14-year-old Keynote
External Hardware synth. I would have expected possible problems had
jaws been set to use software speech when I had the Blue Screen but
since it was set to use my hardware synth, I had not expected any
problem by the mixed up sound devices as the Keynote external does
not show up among the windows audio devices at all.

I could not restart jaws properly at all until I had had the audio
devices sorted out using my sighted husband's sighted assistence to
properly reset the windows default sound device to my pci soundcard
and then fixed up the rest using nvda and rebooted the box.

Why did jaws not load properly when it was set to use my hardware
synth as the default profile?

any help with this would be much appreciated.

Thanks bunches.

Doris

Hi List,

Allow me to offer two suggestions.

On the main youtube site, one way to search for buttons is to press the
letter b repeatedly. This will cycle you through the various options. Once
you've found pause, just hit space bar.

However, there is also an accessible interface for youtube the can be
operated using keyboard shortcuts. It's fairly stripped down compared to the
main site, but I've found it works well and it may be right up someone's
alley.
The url is: tube.majestyc.net

Unlike the main Youtube site, your video won't begin playing automatically
once you've searched for and selected it. To start it, you can either hunt
for the very clearly labelled play button or simply hit alt-z. This same
command will pause the video once it's playing. Alt-x will back up 15
seconds, alt-c will move forward the same amount of time.

Hope this helps,
Michelle

Hi there,
I think that you have to use the tap key and listen till it says pause or
mute. Then press spacebar.

Hi David,
Yes it is worth it, get yourself signed up. I have attached to this a guide
to help a little but keep in mind the site is always changing. The easiest
way I found is to go to m.facebook.com although you need to set your
profile up on the regular site.
Good luck and have fun!
Trisha
BTW, this guide was given to me by a nice person from this list a while ago.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws guide for audacity 2.0

2012-03-17 Thread David Bailes
Hi,
The major difference between audacity and goldwave is that audacity is a
multi-track editor. So you can create a recording using a number of tracks, for
example one or more voice tracks , one or more music tracks, etc. You can apply
effects to only some of the tracks, time shift one or more tracks, and stuff
like this.

David.

original message:
Hi,
So audacity and goldwave are pretty much similar programs? I have been
thinking swiching over to audacity because I just don't like being subject
to using one program for everything you know?

I have heard people talk about audacity over the years and I have been
meaning to look at it but for some reason kept trying to learn goldwave.

So, would audacity be the way to go or goldwave or is it personal
preference?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Pausing a video in You Tube

2012-03-17 Thread Tan Siew Ling
Hi

There is a "Pause" button where you can press Enter on it. The :Pause"
button and some other buttons are all labelled so you should have no
problems with YouTube.

Hope this helped.

Best Regards
Siew Ling
