[JAWS-Users] JAWS And HP Printer/Scanner Units

2012-05-08 Thread Steven Hicks
Hi friends,

I have acquired an HP 6280 printer/scanner.
I am downloading the HP software now but am wondering how well it works with
JAWS and accessibility if anyone has any experience?
I am running Microsoft Windows 7 64 and would really like to be able to
print, check the ink levels and scan and copy.

Many thanks in anticipation for any help.

I can run a full scan with Superantispyware but when the results appear, it

Does anyone know if there is a way around this or even if there is an

Hi,

I was wondering, are there any audio tutorials for how to create a basic
jaws script on the jaws-users.com website?

I started reading everything you need to know about jfw scripts but didn't
know what to ask but other stuff got in the way and I am revisiting it
tonight for a brief moment.

I don't wanna be a John Martin or anything like that, just want to be able
to learn how to create a few scripts here and there.

Thanks.

Hi Listers,

A website that I have to do a lot of work on has added an annoying
description. As I move down the page, Jaws frequently says blank
image for spacing. Since I don't need that info, I want to tell
Jaws not to say it. I selected the text and opened dictionary
manager, but I don't know what to enter for jaws to know to be
silent. I tried leaving the replacement blank, but Jaws says that's
not valid. I hope this description makes sense. I'm using Jaws 13
and IE 8.

Thanks,Shari

[JAWS-Users] MSE uninstalls itself

2012-05-08 Thread leonard morris
I am using the latest jaws v13, Windows seven 32 bit and the MSE
antivirus program. Twice in the last few days I had to reinstall MSE
which I got from the direct link for 32 bit PC from the Jaws users list
program page. What happens when I enter on the desktop MSE shortcut I
get the following error message.

Problem with Shortcut
The item 'msseces.exe' that this shortcut refers to has been
changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly.
Do you want to delete this shortcut?
Yes No

MSE also disappears from the system tray. I don't see computer protected
or not protected message either. SO, I reinstall and everything seems to
be fine for a day and then the issue returns.

It's kind of making me nervous not having a consistent working antivirus
program. I ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and it found no issues.

Hello there;

Well, the shortcut on the desktop is probably from an earlier install.
From what I understand,
MSE doesn't create a desktop icon, you need to do this manually.

[JAWS-Users] changing speach synths on the fly

2012-05-08 Thread David Ferrin
The following instructions I obtained quite a while back from the list Debbie
Scales managed, I don't recall if she wrote them or how they came in to my
possession, but they were instrumental in helping me out at the time when I
needed to use my DEC talk express for a certain application and then change
back to Eloquence upon closing it out.

I have also included the code I came up with that worked for me personally,
enjoy.
***
Compatibility: JFW3.3X or higher.

It is as simple as adding a line in the AutoStartEvent, and the AutoFinishEvent
functions. If you recall, when these

functions are present
within a script file, they get called when the associated application gets
started, and when it is exited, respectively. If they aren't in the script
file, it is very easy to add them yourself.
With that in mind, we'll gear these instructions as if you found no
AutoStartEvent or AutoFinishEvent functions in your script file; if they are
there, then you can just focus on the instructions for adding the two
SetSynth() statements.
To get the correct synthesizer KeyName, take a look at your JFW.INI file
with NotePad, or some other editor. That file is found in the folder JFW is
installed in.

1) While in the application you want to associate the synthesizer switch
with, hit Insert+0 to launch the Script Manager with that application's
script file loaded for editing.
if there is no script file for this program, the Script Manager will create
a blank one.
2) To see if you already have an AutoStartEvent function, hit Control+L to
bring up the list of scripts/functions in the current script file. It is
sorted by name, so the A should be the first scripts you come to in this
list. If you have an AutoStartEvent, highlight it and whack Enter. This
will place you on that script's header line. Hit End and then Enter to
place yourself on a blank line underneath that header line.
3) If you don't have an AutoStartEvent, hit Escape and we'll create one.
a) Hit F2 to get to the first script in this file, (if there are any).
b) If you land on that script, hit the UpArrow once to get on the line
above that script. If there are no scripts, then you can just start with
the next step.
c) Type in, or cut and paste, the following lines: (Note: if you already
had an AutoStartEvent, then just add the following SetSynth line below.)

function AutoStartEvent()
SetSynth(lt) ;Sets DoubleTalk-LT/LiteTalk as synthesizer.
EndFunction

This tells JFW that whenever this program is launched, the user wants their
DoubleTalk-LT, or their LiteTalk, to be used as their synthesizer.
***Important: if you don't have the external synthesizer turned on at this
point, you'll probably hang the system, requiring a reboot. This is because
you'll be trying to access a serial device that, (as far as the system is
concerned), isn't there. This is not a bug in either the synthesizer or
screen reader, but rather a User Error--and those are the easiest errors to
fix!)
4) Hit Control+S to compile what we have so far. If successful, go to the
next step.
5) Hit Control+L again to locate the AutoFinishEvent. If you have one,
highlight it and hit Enter, then arrow down to a line underneath the
variable declarations and hit End, then Enter to create a blank line.
6) If you don't have one, hit Escape to exit the script list and hit
Control+End to reach the bottom of the file. Hit Enter a couple of times to
give yourself some room.
7) Type in, or cut and paste, the following:

function AutoFinishEvent()
SetSynth(dtsoft) ;Sets synthesizer back to Access32
EndFunction

8) Compile with Control+S.

Hit Alt+F4 to exit the Script editor and see what response you get when
loading and unloading this application!
*
void function AutoStartEvent()
SetSynth(dte)
EndFunction

void function AutoFinishEvent()
SetSynth(eloq)
EndFunction

Hi Jerry.
I use Kurzweil 1000 for my ocr needs, But it is very expensive.
I like it though.
If you are looking for a simple ocr ap do a google search for it.
There are some free services where you upload your images and they convert
them for you.
I have not tried any of these sights however.
You could also try downloading a demo of open book or Kurzweil and using the
addin for Microsoft word.

 Subject: [JAWS-Users] jaws-users site

 Hi,

I was wondering, are there any audio tutorials for how to create a
basic jaws script on the jaws-users.com website?

I started reading everything you need to know about jfw scripts but
didn't know what to ask but other stuff got in the way and I am
revisiting it tonight for a brief moment.

I don't wanna be a John Martin or anything like that, just want to be
able to learn how to create a few scripts here and there.

 Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] MSE uninstalls itself

2012-05-08 Thread Steve

Leonard,

I am not at all certain that the MSSE you are getting from the older
messages is the current release of MSSE. You can go to

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-essentials

and try to download it there.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] MSE uninstalls itself

I am using the latest jaws v13, Windows seven 32 bit and the MSE antivirus
program. Twice in the last few days I had to reinstall MSE which I got from
the direct link for 32 bit PC from the Jaws users list program page. What
happens when I enter on the desktop MSE shortcut I get the following error
message.

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws query about tapin radio versions

2012-05-08 Thread julie
I am having trouble with finding accessible versions of tapin radio for
a friend. I use 137.3 (for example it gives 298 jazz stations under genre
and he gets 149. With Jaws reading the program areas in a later version the
genres list the stations differently. How would I find a version like 138 or
139 just a but above 137.3? I tried to find them on the site but couldn't
find older versions. Thank you.

Flor, How would this be accomplished in Win7, JAWS13 and IE8? I assume it
wouldn't be the same as XP. Thanks.

The properties to be dealt with here are not to be confused with the
properties in internet Explorer itself. Microslip there! Find internet
Explorer in your Start menu, All Programs; Shift+f10 on it, and arrow up
to Properties; press Enter. Now in the Shortcut tab control, press the tab
key a few times, till you come to the Run combo box, which has three
settings: Normal window; Minimized; Maximized. the best option seems to be
Normal, although you can choose Maximized. (If you do choose Maximized,
Internet Explorer may take longer to load [pages. such has been my
experience.) Tab your way to OK, enter, and close.

I'm running XP, IE8, and jaws 13.0.638.
Ok here is the problem.
Every time I open up a webpage it is minimized.
It doesn't happen when I open up documents, my email, just on the
internet,

so what do I need to do to fix this?
I went into the menu bar and checked out the zoom, and it is at 100.
Thanks for any help.

I'm not on Win7 at present. You would locate the program icon for
Internet Explorer (for iexplorer.exe), and then either shift+F10 or
applications and arrow up to Properties and then press enter.
