Firefox will ask you to import links when you install it. Only trouble
I've had with ff is youtube is sometimes problematic.

2012-11-27 Thread Hicks Steven (CORNWALL IT SERVICES)
Yes, I switched to a ssd on my laptop a little while ago, I bought a 64gb drive.
I was a little concerned at the time on if it would be large enough or not but
it seems to suit my needs, if you just keep the basics on it as has been said
already, you would be fine but to be double sure, a 128gb drive would be the
option, I have one of these in my desktop and it is sufficient.

Hello Eric. Yes your message does help. Can you give me any insight into
laptops with things such as, 32 gb ssd drive, plus a 500 gb hard drive. i
understand the space requirements, what i'm curious about is the 32 gb for
example is that to load Windows, and other applications, and the bigger one is
mainly for files? Sorry if this confuses you, haven't had coffee yet :) hope
your turkey day was a good one.

after the lid is opened. And battery life is better than any laptop I ever
owned. The marketing material tell you about 8 hours. It is not that much but
I can get 4 or 5 hours of use no problem. Usually I just charge at night.

I chose this particular model because of the keyboard. The arrow keys, Home,
End, Page up/down all work without the need for the FN modifier key. It is
very comfortable and unlike the netbooks, the spacing of keys is the same as
a normal keyboard. Netbooks were about 15% smaller which made it difficult
for me to switch back and forth with my other computer.

 Hope this helps,

All an ultrabook is is a thin and light notebook with a bigger sticker price.
If you really want to pay extra for thin and light, go for it; there
 shouldn't be any problem.

then need to go into the task manager and end the task. When I cannot end

particular to JFW V. 14. Has anyone experienced this crash under JFW V. 14?
If so then I would appreciate any tips on how to get around this problem
using JFW V. 14. Thanks.

Very basic question, yes, newby for external sound cards.

Which brand should I get because with an external sound card I suppose one

correct?

Sorry, I'm very new to this and just want to get info. I am not ashame to

Re: [JAWS-Users] accessibility on gotomeeting and citrix online

2012-11-27 Thread Dan Rossi
I've had similar experiences with GoToMeeting. One caveat though. I
worked with a conference organizer, and some how, we are not sure how, and
we weren't able to reproduce it, but at some point, I was able to actually
converse with him through the interface. The issue was that there is a
bunch of controls on the screen, but JAWS refused to see them. Then, at
some point, I was able to see all of the controls and interact with them,
but was unable to do that during the actual live meeting. The conference
organizer had done something along the lines of set my preferences
differently during our test, and that put me in a different area when the
our test conference started, which enabled me to see all the controls.
However, when we tried that in the live conference, it didn't seem to work
the same way.

So, I will say that yes, in general it is mostly inaccessible, but it
seems promising that it can be made to work. I think that should be a
priority for Freedom Scientific since so many business related meetings
are now being conducted via this platform.

All depends on what programs have been messing with your autorun
settings. Simpler to hit windows-r and type drive letter colon
backslash setup and press enter. That'll get around all the garbage.

[JAWS-Users] Using A DOS Application

2012-11-27 Thread Charles Nicol
Hi,

I Wonder if any of you can help?

I am currently using the latest build of JAWS 14 with Vocaliser voices. At
work, I need to access and support an old MS DOS application and am having
trouble getting JAWS to speak menus, forms, fields etc., within the
application. I used to run a DOS Screen Reader many years ago, however, it
was dependent upon a hardware speech synthesizer.

Is it possible to run a package like JAWS For DOS on a PC, alongside JAWS 14
and, if so, how might I go about this? Would JAWS for DOS work with a
software synthesizer? Alternatively, how might I configure JAWS 14 to work
better with a DOS application (DataEase Database Software), or are there any
scripts out there which might help? I know that JAWS works fine with the
Command Prompt in WINDOWS XP, however, this is pretty rudimentary.

I contacted Freedom Scientific but they cannot offer any support. They
suggested contacting some of the user forums for advice.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts, realising that some of the younger
community on the list may not even know what MS DOS was.

With Kind Regards,

Charlie Nicol.

Re: [JAWS-Users] accessibility on gotomeeting and citrix online

2012-11-27 Thread Marvin Atkins
Not sure if this is still accurate but when using JAWS with Citrix, you must
purchase an additional add-in for JAWS to work with Citrix and it must be
installed on your employer's main frame. I tried this at my job a few years
back and couldn't ever get JAWS to work correctly.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Using A DOS Application

2012-11-27 Thread Chris Hill
If jaws for dos worked better with the program, I'd suggest finding an
old computer and speech synthesizer. An xp machine could work with a
serial synthesizer if it had a serial port (many did) but a serial port
on a more modern machine is a rare thing. It is even more rare to find
usb to serial drivers that don't put the port on some number no dos
program will touch. I'm afraid that dos programs are pretty near their
end, you can't run them on 64 bit systems without some sort of emulator,
and that is where everything is going.
