When I first open Outlook Jaws works fine allowing me to read emails using the shortcut keys such as h for headings, etc. However after Outlook has been open for a while, 5 minutes or longer, the Jaws hot keys stop working. For example when I hit the h key the letter h is typed in the open email rather than going to a heading in the email. I spoke with FS tech support yesterday. They said that it seems that Outlook 2007 on my computer "deteriorates" after it has been open for a while and and is not recognizing the open emails as virtual documents. He could tell that because when I am experiencing this problem the pc cursor key says pc cursor rather than virtual pc cursor. He suggested I make sure my Outlook 2007 had all the updates. I checked that and all updates for windows 7 and office 2007 have been installed. I also ran the office diagnostic tool from the Outlook 2007 help menu and everything reported as no problems. I can work around this problem by either using Jaws 13 where the insert+shift+w key opens the email in a web browser window or I can insert+shift+close Outlook 2007 and reopen it again when using Jaws 14. However I would like to be able to use Jaws 14 and Outlook 2007 without having to do that every 5 minutes or so. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated. Re: [JAWS-Users] Google Chrome or IE 9, which is better
Steve, The problem is more likely to be in the second part of the error message. The compile time user.agent value (safari) does not match the runtime user.agent value (ie6). I haven't yet come across a 'fixit' which will run to fix that. the Microsoft Internet Explorer fixit encountered an unexpected error when i ran it. A lot of folks fixing Microsoft issues prefer to stick only with Microsoft products. This computer was originally an Apple computer, and is OEM. Well, there's my Toshiba Windows7 laptop which has IE9, and earliest had IE8 on it. and JAWS14 updated. Re: [JAWS-Users] Smiley face saying J
Hi Flor, I tried using the colon & right paran in the default dictionary but, you would be amazed how many smiley faces you get in different areas of the computer! LOL, hahaha hahaha hahaha, LOL For example, click on My Computer from the desktop, every drive in the list has a colon & right paran in it! The explanation I got for the colon, dash, & right paran being the smiley face symbol is, if you turn this group of punctuation / symbols clockwise 90 degrees, the colon represents 2 eyes, the dash, a nose, & the right paran, a smile. Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] Smiley face saying J
Colon and right paren is either, I think, a smiley face or a grin. - Original Message - From: "Mike B." To: Sent: Friday, February 08, 2013 9:23 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Smiley face saying J Hi Stephanie, Try the following: 1. Press Insert + D, for the dictionary manager & then, press control, shift, + D, for the default dictionary manager. You want to use the default dictionary manager so Jaws will read the smiley face symbol in all applications. 2. Tab to the, Add button & press the spacebar to open the Actual Word edit field. 3. Type in, :-), that is, colon dash right paran.). From my understanding the correct symbols for the smiley face are the colon, dash, & right paran. If I'm wrong, will someone please correct me?! 4. Tab 1 time to the, Replacement Word, edit field, & type in, smiley face, or, whatever you want Jaws to say whenever you come across this group of punctuation marks / symbols. 5. Tab to the okay button & press the spacebar. Press control + S to save your changes & Alt + F4 to close. Hope this helped. Take care. Sounds like googles still lack of what they call accessibility at work here. Re: [JAWS-Users] a dificalt question about Jaws?
It is called the preview pain. I don't use that or I would tell you how to shut it off, but look around view menu, layout. P.S. Aren't clicks fun? I don't get it? I have been dealing with this issue for three days now, and I have gotten no help, so I just wonder? My question was, why all of a sudden is Jaws reading part of an email, when there is no email open, I am sitting on the list, in my inbox, and when I arrow down, I don't hear the name of the sender, nor any part of the subject line, and the date, time, and size of the email? And the fact that some times when in list view, jaws does not read at all I have to arrow down once, and back up to hear the sender's name, and that is how I here the senders name, and stuff, after I here part of the email. Re: [JAWS-Users] Any Windows 8 Mailing list for JAWS users?
Hi, concerning audio tutorials about windows 8, freedom scientific are giving a free webinar on Feb 13, and these webinars are archived. http://www.freedomscientific.com/training/Free-Webinars.asp David. original message: Hey gang, Well I've taken the plunge and have upgraded my OS to Windows 8 64 bit, and I'm really starting to regret doing so.I'm using the latest build of JAWS 14, and I'm finding it very difficult to do some things I've grown accustome to doing quite easily in previous versions of Windows. Not sure if this is due to the limitations of JAWS 14 or my lack of knowledge on navigating Windows 8, but I'm willing to learn. Just don't understand why Henter-Joyce hasn't posted some sort of audio tutorials on this subject yet.Are there any mailing list out there I can subscribe to for learning how to use JAWS with Windows 8? I know the list moderator doesn't like people posting off-topic things here, so please send this info to me privately for I don't want to get band for starting an off-topic thread here. Thanks so much for your help. For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
