It's iTunes tv shows on my hard drive. On the laptop they work fine. On
the desktop, well not so much. Do you need the specs for the desktop and

I've got 2 systems, one running Windows 7, the other running Windows Xp Sp3.
Both have iTunes on them. The windows 7 system works fine, the xp system
does not. The xp system will start to play a tv show, then stop, then
stutter, then start playing again. It does this at random. I've downloaded
the latest sound, video, and chipset drivers. Tried uninstalling and
reinstalling iTunes and everything related to it. I've tried running iTunes
in safe mode. I have tried setting Quicktime to play using wav out and gdi
safe mode for the video out, but still no luck. Any help would be
appreciated.
Oh, and here's what it might sound like if I'm playing a video on Windows

Re: [JAWS-Users] keyboard on new laptop

2013-02-15 Thread Ryan West

Hello
Scott,

I had the same problem I was able to fix most of the problems however I
still had problems with the jaws commands with the ten key so I am using an
external keyboard. I had to have a sighted person go into the bios and
change the function key to be on. I will try and look up my notes on the
process but I am not sure if I still have them.

Sincerely, Ryan West

Try including the Fn key in your commands, for example:
Fn + Insert + F11 for the System Tray.
I ran into this on a Gateway laptop,but don't remember off-hand
what needed to be changed with the keyboard to eliminate this behavior,

Hi Everyone,

I just got a new HP Envy laptop running Windows 8. I am using the latest
build of JAWS 14. The function keys on the laptop have lost their mind. I
cannot use the JAWS key with any of the function keys to get the expected
function. For example, caps lock plus F12 does not give me the time. If I
press F1, without holding down anything, JAWS says Windows F1 and it acts as
though I were holding down the Windows key even though I am not. If I press
F2 or F3, it says "MK wheel click". If I press F4, it says "Windows P".
This problem only effects the function keys (F1 through F12). If I use a
external USB keyboard, everything works normally. So, is there a software
issue here or is the keyboard on my new laptop defective?

Thanks,

Scott Duck

There's a free version which is limited in what it can do and a plus version
for money that does quite a bit more. After an initial period, the free one
will nag you to buy the plus version though you can fix that in ADD/REMOVE

[JAWS-Users] JAWS and converting emails to text

2013-02-15 Thread Greg Wocher

Hello all,
I am running latest version of JAWS14 on a Windows 8 64bit computer. I
was curious if anyone knows of an accessible program to convert my
emails in Thunderbird to text? If not is there an easy way to back them
up so I can clear out my different folders?

Thank you for any help,

Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows7 Suggested Settings For Jaws13

2013-02-15 Thread Chris Hill
First, eliminate jaws from the issue, download nvda and try it. If it
is just a screwy, then the upgrade is probably messed up. The system
might have had a virus before the upgrade, or been damaged in some other
way. You never know when you start having problems after an upgrade if
the upgrade is what is causing the problem. For that very reason, I
wouldn't waste ten minutes installing an upgraded operating system,
erase it all and start over.

Well, unless you are going to use libre office or similar, you probably
don't need Java for anything. I guess some websites might use it, but
unless you know you need it, get rid of it and you'll have one less
security issue.

First question: how do you know you have a problem? What isn't working?
For example, the Libre Office 3.64 did not work, but the 4.0 at least
tries. Open office didn't work either last time I checked. Even at its
best, Libre Office under windows with java access bridge is not ready
for prime time, it is only somewhat workable in the word processor, the
spreadsheet doesn't tell you where you are at unless you set screen echo
to full and listen to a lot of chatter.

There's a free version which is limited in what it can do and a plus version
for money that does quite a bit more. After an initial period, the free one
will nag you to buy the plus version though you can fix that in ADD/REMOVE
programs.

You can modify the sound scheme to play a .wav file for capital letters.
 I use click4.

This is the second option on the miscellaneous tab when you are editing
the sound scheme.

You will need to change this in the default settings ( control shift D).
For this to take affect in Microsoft Word you will need to open

All I can really suggest is review your choices very carefully. I have a
headphone choice without an additional card plugged in because it is just on
my built-in card. Choosing it doesn't actually switch to the headphone
jack, it just stays with the speakers. Once I connect my bluetooth headset,
I get another headset choice and it works as expected.

I sent my email, I went to utilities and the sound card option and
click headset; however, when I clicked headset jaws was not coming out
of my headset.

When I pressed enter on the windows default sound card, jaws is coming
out of my headset.

I guess my question is when I press enter on this option in the
soundcard options that states, speakers jineric USB audio device what
will this do and how come when I select the headset option, jaws is
not coming out of the headset.

Hopefully this was not a stupid question. I do not pretend to know
anything about how USB cards work, so hopefully someone can bail me

When or if someone can provide clarity I think I have another
